2080ti is $703. But non-reference blower cards suck.

With 10TB drives, you can easily fit 240TB in 4U. The Norco is much more like what I need in my current environment. I used to run sever gear in my server chassis, but the older dual xeons I had were eating me up for power use. So, I switched out server gear for consumer gear (ivy bridge stuff, 3570k/32 gb non-ecc, etc) which sips power by comparison.Yeah, I think this unit blows anything in the outlet out of the water.
you can also get sas expanders. i use intel because i didnt want to deal with flashing but yyou might be fluent enough to bother with flashing the hp sas expannder. there is a dedicated thread on it
An option, yes, but I really try to not share bandwidth if I can avoid it. It will eventually become unavoidable, of course. I'm hoping to greatly improve available lanes at upgrade time.

I'd call them just to make sure it wasn't you that got it and that's why it's showing sold out though.

Got impatient. Bought an 846 with X8DTI-LN4F two e5620 and 48gb of RAM for $260 shipped. Not sure if there's any other processors that might make that board worthwhile. I think it can fit 5600-series 6 cores @80w but not sure.A lot of people don't know supermicro's history, but they have been around a very long time. I actually have a cyrix p166+ system that was based on their motherboard.
The e5620s are pretty decent as that's what I have in my r410 right now, and you should be able to upgrade to the x5670 which will use a little more power, but also give you a few more cores. Then there's the x5690 which is a lot more power, but ups the single thread performance since it's at 3.5Ghz without the turbo:

Luckily, these chips are fairly cheap and so is the ram for this era so I think it's a solid move.
I've generally found the e-series to be more power conscious, but a lot of times the performance suffers too. Sometimes the x is more power, but other times the same, but more performance. It's really all over the place to the point you have to look at individual chips to really know what's what.
Also, definitely check out the e/x55xx series as these chips are generally the same performance as the x/x56xx series but cost less because they're older (and may be missing some cpu features so check that too before jumping).Nice! I use that same model at work -- admin/admin is default if you're using the Network-MS management card. You can also reset the network management card password from the console. User Manual, see section 7:
