Not really, it offers the same ballpark performance of my 980, but now I get to use my Freesync monitor.
Seems like Nvidia unethical business practices have started.
If you are buying hardware please consider buying an AMD video card or CPU. If we let Nvidia win with such practices and they dominate more of the GPU market a monopoly will not help us consumers as we will later pay more for products, nor will there be innovation if we allow this to happen. I hope word spreads.
Buy what's best for your wallet or if you buy nvidia choose an oem that has joined this sht program.
Thanks
my god, if butthurt, stupidity, and ignorance of coporate law were a capable of being tapped into as a power resource i could mine 100 bitcoin an hour from the people in that reddit thread.Sorry but I would not spend my money on AMD or support it, my money will always go with Best NVidia GPU.
Anyway as I said it's not the same thing. Having a non-compete from the get go is one thing. But selling both products for years under your name, then one of them saying you must dump the other to continue selling mine that's what is happening here.
I have no power over the laws these companies have to conduct their business by. All I can do is express my negative feelings about it. If I'm honest I'm against the entire market system, and no before you say anything I'm not a marxist nor a communist, those are not the only options. But the proponents of the market system do try to plant that seed in people early on.Which is perfectly legal.
Business is in the business of making money, period. Stop trying to attach good/evil labels; AMD would do the same exact thing if they could. Rather then supporting the lesser evil, how about pushing the people in power to change the laws to make this sort of thing illegal? Because otherwise, YOU AREN'T HELPING.

So all I can do at the moment is raise awareness about why the system is unfit to be used unchanged in the current day and age. But that is a much broader topic. In that sense NVIDIA is a lesser evil as well. They're just doing what the system rewards.
But there are self-regulated conscious corporations who don't go all out on abusing their position. There is such a thing as corporate ethics, it just seems NVIDIA has none. And TBH I doubt AMD would do the exact same thing if they controlled 90 percent of the market.

The thing is, why should nVidia have their brand diluted by association with AMD's products? It makes no sense.
Things like this are exactly why car manufacturers have different sub-brands.
In this case nVidia is the Lexus, and AMD is the Toyota.
I don't see the big deal, personally.
If they want the top branding for their cards, then they need to release a GPU that's faster than the GTX 1080 Ti. Until that time I see no problem with this at all. And I can totally understand where nVidia is coming from with this. AMD is not happy, sure. But that's just too bad for them. Honestly what AMD did with Kyle's GPP article was a desperate cry for help. Kyle listened and helped them, for better or for worse.

You know what, I used to love AMD, I really did. I'm from Canada and supporting ATi was a matter of national pride for me. However I have seen too much from AMD at this point. I no longer appreciate them as a tech company. The shills. The lies. The endless hype and nonsense conjecture. You probably don't even know the half of it.Their brand is Geforce. Asus ROG, Gigabyte Aorus, and MSI Lightning are not Nvidia's brands.
No.
Wow.
You are part of the problem and not part of the solution.
Your opinion on this... just wow. They are using their admittedly dominant position in the market to stick it to AMD and force their customers to change their branding. Actions like this will further cement NVIDIA as the top performer as they will have more and more of the revenue. Actions like this cause things like the $2999 Titan V to happen. They cause things like $1000 1180s to happen.
Things like this are bad for you, even if you don't realize it.
me too! now they make me sad...I'm from Canada and supporting ATi was a matter of national pride for me.
What do you guys think is worse - nVidia taking over the top gaming brands for GeForce, or AMD taking over legitimate tech sites and forums with their marketing trolls?
What I am thinking is that being Evil is really good for company.AMD needs to throw everything and become more evil.being Honest with consumers won't work and can certainly kill future.

Hasn't all of this basically been figured out? "AIB's cant share the same branding names with nvidia cards"
i.e. Strix branding cards can only be Nvidia or AMD and the other brand needs to have a different name.
I've never seen a bigger nothing burger before in my life and i work very close in politics.
I have always bought a NVidia and Intel only in all computer builds I have no need to change for the future and never will.
GSync is really no better than FreeSync in my experience, so it limits my monitor choice for no good reason which is annoying.
Not at all. There are way more FreeSync monitors than Gsync.FreeSync does not limit your monitor choice? Hmmmm.....
I have no power over the laws these companies have to conduct their business by.
Ha, you seem to be under the impression that your vote matters. Take a guess as to what your members of congress are doing when they aren't on the floor? They spend many hours of their days speaking with lobbyist. Your vote doesn't matter, has never mattered, and unless we go back to the days when politicians were scared of being killed by the people for not doing their job, it will never matter.Yes you do: Federal Elections. Congress passes the laws to companies operate under. If you don't like how they're operating, then vote in people who will change the laws to make such practices illegal.
Simply amazing how you have already scoped out the PC industry for the only two companies that are ever needed for all time. You must be very wealthy because of this skill Very Impressive, indeed!
I just buy only NVidia GPU the best, Intel CPU , Corsair memory, Corsair PSU, Corsair HD fans, Thermaltake fans, Thermaltake cases, Samsung SSD, WD hdd, Gigabyte Aorus MB only, Corsair RGB keyboard & Mouse, HypeX headphone, UHD 32inch monitor now Acer. I just don't only use two companies but yes my top of my list will start with NVidia, & Intel, then the rest add-on. I am not wealthy as you think I upgrade my PC every five years, I enjoy my money why not you only have one life in this world.
It is fun to see you are concious about how you spend your money and the next step is are you spending your money at companies that have the best intentions in the industry or are they purely based on profit and screw other companies (this comes back in your face as a consumer) at a drop of a dime ?
Many people in life want the best (sometimes that claim holds more of a marketing ring then it does at being the "best") but did you figure that spending money on a product also determines what happens in the future for the industry as a whole.
You make your choices in life about how and why don't forget that others do have a valid reason(s) for theirs.
Lets follow you logic.
He buys the best performning GPU.
He rewards the R&D gone into that product, as one would logically assume that pruchase would help fuel new R&D for a better product.
Seems like he is doing the logical thing (reward success).
He is not doing the unlogical thing:
Buying a lesser perfomning GPU to reward not beating the competition.
Are you sure you thougth you logic through?
Like really?

Only the strong in business will survive it's fact, over other companies it's just money, power, greed. if you look at AMD stock market 9.53USD down 0.08 were NVidia 215.41USD up 1.16 because AMD is going down the wrong path it might lose investors, and shareholder are hanging on a thin rope, AMD can sit back and wait true but at what cost! it was Like when Intel sat back on their ass far too long over the Quad core CPU so then AMD Ryzen came out it was doing well in stock market that stocked Intel, But now we have Intel i9, 10 core 20 thread CPU, to replace AMD Ryzen ounces again.
AMD Ryzen CPU is cheaper then Intel but at what cost!
if i had a dollar for every person who adhered to this boycott I would have no dollarsIf I had a dollar every time someone said AMD is doomed and done for, I literally would have enough cash to buy Intel and AMD outright. Also your quite wrong that only the strong survive in the stock market, plenty of people have been manipulated right out of their company, it's better regulated these days but still plenty of shady things still go down.

That is synopsis of just the last few years but AMD had a consumer 6 cores a lot longer ago. The problem is that AMD never been able to compete on a level playing field. Money is what matters. Those that have tons to throw at what ever elected jackass is willing to gobble it up write the laws.
