Destiny 2

I finished the main game with my hunter and I can't be bothered to login anymore. It was fun for the duration of the story but the end game isn't compelling. My problem is that being a PC gamer, I didn't play the first game and I have no idea on the main characters or the lore and I don't know why that giant sphere is in whatever city that is so all the relevance is lost on me.

At this point its just a looter shooter and I've already killed the boss mobs too many times over for it to be interesting anymore.

How many hours did you put into the game? Maybe try the other classes for different style, gameplay experience?

I'm in the "end game" missions and it does feel like they're lacking in creativity this time. There aren't very many unique enemies or bosses that fight/look different or require you to do anything special.
Plus, we're still fighting the same exact enemies from the first game 95% of the time. That compounds things a bit. The different classes aren't that different, either. The only real differentiators are their special attacks which you aren't able to use all that often to begin with. It's a fun game, but I can see a lot of people bailing after "winning" the game. I'm one of those people who is oddly compelled to keep playing in spite of those things. No clue why.

After finding some coworkers who play and putting together a raid team for leviathan raid, I see potential and creativity there. The regular raid/nightfall is just cheap mechanics and run and gun while leviathan really was a head scratcher if you aren't the guide internet type. I'm hoping for future raids to have some unique puzzles like that.

Wifey and I reached 20 together, and I sprinted through the entire campaign two more times - so I've got one of each class up to level 20. Towards the end I simply ran past enemies and didn't do more than half the encounters and enemy set pieces.

I was hoping it would be like Diablo - finish the campaign once and then get to pick/choose with an alternate character, but, no.

Those new drivers definitely offer a boost for the people playing with resolution scaled 4K. I went from 60% to 70% (all other things maxed) and have seen no drops. Pretty cool.

Xurs stuff for this week is ok but I didn't even log in to check him out just went on youtube lol. I take it Destiny doesn't have alot of Gun designs just yet seeing alot of the same stuff pop up.

I think there are only 20 exotics. There are over 100 guns total though.

Dumb question:

I think I'm going to be forced to change clans and come over to the [H] clan if they'll take me.

Reason: The clan I'm in now is being run by a friend of mine and I wanted to join that for the sake of good will and all but the fact of the matter is, they are all on the PS4 and I'm not.

I'd like to finally do Leviathan, Nightfall, the Sturm quest, and so on and I have to a fireteam situation to do this. I've been in game with my fireteam settings set to public to see if I get lucky but I haven't.

Would switching clan improve that situation for me or are there better ways? I had looked this up and playing random roulette on the Bungie boards didn't look very promising.

Nice concept. I really wish they ran the same matchmaking setup they do on the "regular strikes" across the boards on everything.

https://www.polygon.com/2017/10/11/16453942/destiny-2-raid-guided-games

Right.

It works for a fireteam of 3 on strikes just fine. I guess I've had great luck because anyone I have played with randomly all wants to do well and kick ass and we always do. I can't believe it's really rocket science.

The hype before the game's release was that solo players would have much easier/better time on this game vs part 1 in regards to "not missing anything" and so far I have to beg to differ with that hype if this is the box I'm stuck in.

Not sure of the hows and whys, but ever since this latest patch (which boosts performance), I've had the game stone cold reboot my PC twice. Usually right upon killing something big and important...which of course doesn't count when your PC reboots. I'm not too happy about that!
Anyone else have recent issues?

Did a quick search:

Maybe check OC settings>?

The usual: Check the drivers, repair/update files, troublehoot/temp. disable SLI crossfire... stuff like that.

My CPU overclock is pretty mild and still easily passes every stress test I toss at it. Temps are minimal in-game, too. I don't bother with a GPU OC in Destiny since AfterBurner and the game don't play nice.
Considering my exact issue seems to be one that at least a few other seem to be having (and the rep seemed to acknowledge something), I'll chalk it up to an obscure issue with certain configs...or something like that. In the meantime, I'll try running it as an admin per one of the posts.

Unrelated - I've been tinkering around with visual settings and I actually think FXAA looks better than MSAA in this game. There's something about the sharper look that just doesn't look "right" while FXAA's softer look feels more at home.

I also still can't figure out what 3D occlusion does...other than cost a few FPS with higher settings. Maybe it has to tag team with MSAA, but I'm just not seeing anything.

Always run everything as admin. ;) Look over the edit add on my previous post if you didn't see it already. Chances are you have already done all of that.

Just to cover all bases: This happens to you only in this game and you have no third party anythings running while you play? (Afterburner...any of that?)

3D occlusion: https://images.nvidia.com/geforce-c...active-comparison-001-3d-vs-hdao-ao-only.html

HDAO is better.

Correct. No background stuff at all. I'm anal about that. My CPU's OC is handled via the bios only. No Afterburner or overlays of any sort.
I swapped over to admin (one more thing to say "yes" to) and no crashes so far after about an hour.

The nvidia guide states and shows that 3DAO is the better option, visually. It comes with a larger framerate cost but it does look better.

This latest patch (what on earth did they do with a 1.2GB patch???!!!) seems to have fixed my hard locking issue and allowed me to even OC my CPU a bit, got my chip up to 4.5ghz now and managed to gain about 20fps. My 4770k kind of sucks and takes 1.300V to do that so thats as far as I'll push, but the performance at 1440p with my 1080 is very good now. Almost always over 100fps.

After going back and forth repeatedly, I can't tell any difference in-game. I'm sticking to HDAO and saving those 2-3 FPS :p

Still no crashes after playing as an admin for several hours. Seems like that's a possible fix for anyone having crashing issues.

This and "repair files" always the best places to start on any of this. :)

Yeah, I did the repair thing. I had to after the last update. Ditto with whenever pretty much any game has issues. The reboot thing is new to me, though. I don't think I've had a forced reboot crash in 4-5 years.

Now I just need to figure out how to get a submachinegun. I have a mission where I have to kill 30 enemies with one while jumping, but I haven't had one drop in like a week. Is there anywhere I can buy one?

Any submachine gun? Gosh... I feel like I get them pretty easily. Public events. Loot boxes around any area. Lost Sectors. Strikes.

On any planet where anyone is selling gear... Banshee at the Tower (or if you're still on the Farm you can get gear there)...

If you rack up reputation points you get engrams and randomly can get them.

You can check the planet vendors. The Riskrunner is an exotic smg you may have in your vault collection. If all else fails you can farm public events on earth until one drops.

How CPU bound would you say this game is? I benchmark by doing laps around the EDZ church and my CPU is generally at 80-90+ utilization

I think I'm just on an odd streak of luck where none drop. I've gotten like 20 purple hand cannons and rocket launchers, but I can't get any SMG drops. No Scout rifles, either. I don't necessarily need one of those, but that's my preferred main when I have a good one.

you could finish the EDZ story missions and get the MIDA Mini-Tool submachine gun. i just did that the other night, haven't had much chance to use it yet though.

Pretty sure I've done everything there is to do there unless there's some way to replay those and get the same reward. I replayed a story mission on Nessus by accident and can't recall how I did it.

LOL, that explains it. Check out the final step needed. That's where I'm hung up :p

you get the MIDA Mini-Tool after step 1. you should be able to buy it from the EDZ vendor (to get an SMG to use for the last step).

Duh! I should have known that. Wish there was a trade system so I could just give you one of mine.

That would be great. I really wish they had some of the Borderlands conventions in this. Drop a bunch of your loot if you want or trade with others, etc.

Sturm and Drang: A fun offensive combo if you're into pistols, hand cannons, and sidearms at all.

I wonder if they gonna put Destiny 2 on sale this Black Friday, still on the fence about this game.

Could be - they are announcing the first of two planned DLC, so it's a good way to try to get people in (before asking for more money).

BTW, you don't need to actually be jumping, you just need to be higher than what you shoot.

Finally got the guy in the church to sell me an SMG. It was just a normal 'ol 200 damage green one, but it got the job done quickly enough. The Mida guns are both pretty damned good, so I'm glad I finished that up. Now I've kinda hit that same wall where I stopped playing Destiny 1. I'm at light level level 270'ish and getting stronger is a slog now. Blue drops are capped at 262 (for now) and gaining XP takes forever. I'm still gaining plenty of purple drops (via one way or another) but even those are only boosting stats a point or two at a time.

That brick wall goes away on December 5. ;)

Yes you are at the soft cap. You need milestone gear now.

You can do Milestones, Clan Rewards, Raid will all give you upgrades + Exotics.

I liked the strike missions from the first game. They're short (10-15 minutes), they work with random other players, and the rewards were good. If those are in this game, they must be buried somewhere I haven't been. I figure I'll probably finish up the blue shield story missions over Thanksgiving and play something else until 12/5.
