SENTRY: Console-sized gaming PC case project

Just wanted to post on here to give Cryorig some props.
I applied for an AM4 kit for my C7 and never got an email with tracking/confirmation. I emailed them to ask about the kit and they replied within an hour. They said the application was approved and it would be on the way soon. I'm in the Caribbean so they said it would take 4-6 weeks to get to me.
4 days later it's in my PO box down here.

As others have said it's a bit louder than I'd like but I'm going to tweak some settings once I get my keyboard.
I actually managed to install windows and get Steam/GoG and drivers installed using only a Steam Controller via usb dongle. Windows instantly picks it up as a mouse, even during Windows 10 install.

Thank you Volvo.

Try starting with that screw instead?

I believe someone had a similar issue with a different mobo awhile back. On mobile so searching is difficult.

I had the same issue with my build last night. Starting with that screw "fixed" it. The price of a hand-built case, I guess.

I have the ASRock Z270M-ITX/ac. Looks like the layout is close enough to your board that I can offer up the lengths I went with. I got my cables from avaentum.com and he can do cables pretty much any length you want and was offering a $10 discount with the code HARD10 for HardForum members (assuming it's still active). Anyway, here you go:

PCIE: 12 inches
CPU: 16 inches
24 pin: 10 inches
SATA power: 7 inches

Hope this helps!
Thank you! That site is great and the prices beat cablemod. Really appreciate the heads up and thanks for the cable lengths

I was tempted to get a different set of a few cables from cablemod. I wasn't happy with my Sata or pcie cables from them, they were too long. My measurements probably weren't the best. But their prices are really high so it wasn't worth it to change them. Thanks for suggesting this site. Looks like a really small operation, so it definitely feels good to support a small business/hobbyist. I'll probably give them a try for another pc of mine that's suffering from a mess of psu spaghetti.

Glad I was able to help you out (in a sense) and return the favor for your input on my temps. It's definitely just a one man operation. His communication was really good which was important to me. If after reviewing your order he feels your measurements might be too long or to short, he'll let you know but will ultimately make what you ask for. I did have one minor issue with a cable and he apologized and immediately offered to make me a new cable or an extension at no charge. I opted for the extension and he had it made and shipped the next day.

Sorry if I'm coming across like I'm promoting his site, etc. I just like to give credit where it's due and like you said, I also like supporting the hobbyist out there. If we didn't, the Sentry might not even exist right now!

Did anyone try out a NAS box with this case? NO GPU. Just HDD's?

Want to try that build.

With the right motherboard you could fit twelve 2.5in drives in the gpu bay. Maybe more if they're extra slim. Plus the two standard 2.5in mounting points on the center support. And potentially an m.2 drive on the motherboard. You could have up to 15 drives if your board supports it. No reason it wouldn't work. If I remember correctly, the Ząber guys may send an extra drive bracket or two if you request it.

ZombiPL as it is the last shipment, is there a schedule for retail? Many of us didn't knew about your case up till indigo ended and would like to buy the case. I myself are moving and would like to use your case at my new home, but I'd like to know how long will it take.

I second this!

Wooha.

This is what I want to hear.

However, how will the 12 drive fit happen? Sorry, but not seeing the mounting pattern in my head. I have the case right next to me.

Guys. I am trying to do a different build than most popular one here, a proper media box. From the manual in the box, Figure 15, I can see there is a way to add 4 2.5" HDD if the GFX is a short one.

qZGCCGC.jpg

Three questions:

1. Does that mean, the default HDD mounting space also can be populated with two more 2.5HDD each. Taking the total to 6 * 2.5inch HDD?
2. Is there a way to avoid the GFX card and mount 4 more 2.5inch or possibly 8 more 2.5inch HDD? like what Ej24 has advised? I guess, the screws should be on the outer shell.
3. Can I pay to get more HDD mounting brackets?

1. And 2. Ej24 gave you an example setup that would support up to 15 drives. 12 HDDs in the GPU area (3 stacks of 4 HDDs stacked upon each other) + 2 HDDs in their default location above the motherboard + 1 M.2 drive underneath the motherboard = 15 total drives.

3. PM SaperPL or ZombiPL for some extra brackets as I'm sure they'd be able to send some via mail.

Sentry manufacturing process - weekly update

We are in the middle of manufacturing last transport Sentry cases. It was a very busy week and we predict that the next two won't be easier.

xhjothtpevbedpsgqgoy.jpg

We are receiving many questions about sending the tracking numbers. You ask, if we are preparing 7th transport, then why you still didn't receive your tracking number? The answer is simple: our transport company and we are sending tracking numbers after sending the package. We can't give you a tracking number before the package will be sent. It means, even if we are in the middle of assembling process of your case, you won't receive your shipping information until we will finish.

You also ask about building your pc inside Sentry. We found out that most of questions showed up because paper manual which we add with Sentry is just a short version of full instruction and it doesn't explain everything. You can find its extended version on our website and we also gave you a direct link in the paper manual. We also understand that we didn't write properly that this link leads to the better version of the instruction, and it is probably very confusing. We apologize for that. We will add it to the list of future improvements which must be made. If you still don't know what we are talking about, here is a link to the full, most up-to-date version of the Sentry manual:

One last topic. We noticed that many of transport companies don't update the tracking information, even if the package was delivered many weeks/months ago. We are asking our shipping company to ask their partners in your countries to update that information, but it takes very long. Because of that it also takes us very long to notice that some packages should already be delivered but they aren't. 10th week of waiting for delivery should be an alert for you that something is wrong with your transport. We are sending over 1000 packages so it is statistically possible that some cases could be damaged or lost. If you are worried about your package, please inform us about it. We will check if it is possible that this is just a delay or if this is a situation which we have to report to our shipping company or even start a warranty process with this company. We are also always very grateful for all the feedback which you decide to give us after the delivery process.

Just a small suggestion for the next revision: what if the paper slip were labeled a "quick start guide" and said "for full manual, follow this link:"

That way there's no way for someone to think they were holding the whole manual.

Haha thanks for clearing that up. You said it much better than me.

m-jeri
The only limitation is finding a motherboard that has enough Sata ports. There may be some C222, C232 or C236 itx boards that support that many drives. I think I've seen some with 8-10 Sata ports and maybe an additional m-sata onboard. I'd be very interested to see the final build. Not many have mentioned building a Sentry NAS.

There needs to be a way to add flashing lights to a pdf

If only. But more realistically, what about a link to a short YouTube video demonstrating the correct installation of the riser? SaperPL ZombiPL you guys had a good campaign video, and good quick assembly video why not make another video specifically for riser installation? Or if it's too difficult to get the angle right with a quality camera maybe render some sort of video using models and cutaways from your CAD/3D design software? The riser installation seems to be the one thing that people routinely get confused about.

Hello! Joined the forum so I could add maybe a little bit of info with my shipping/building experience. My Sentry shipped June 10th, 2017 and it arrived in USA, Arizona on August 14th, 2017. That comes to a total of 65 days for overseas shipment, just in case you are also overseas and have yet to see your Sentry.

Building:

MoBo: While mounting my motherboard (Asus STRIX Z270i Gaming ITX) within the Sentry I also had an issue with using all four screws. I could only ever screw in 3 of the 4 screws as the board would also misaligned the four, starting from any of the four mounts.

GPU: The ASUS STRIX Geforce 1080 Ti OC model that I own does not fit my Sentry as the fan facing is too large. (image)

Wiring: The default wires that come with my SilverStone SX700-LPT 700W are much too large, too long to fit gently within the Sentry. Custom ordered wire lengths is a definite must in my situation. Cablemod dot com or Avaentum dot com is a good start.

Instructions: If you are going to use the single page step-by-step guide that comes with the Sentry make sure to take your time reading and understanding it. It took me a good couple of minutes to understand the GPU bracer insertion direction.
Step 6: Wasn't sure which screw, I just used my own. Step 7: This mean to insert from the top of case. Step 8: Continuing with that idea of top insert from step 7.

Overall, worth the wait in shipping! I love this case, my personal troubles with the Sentry simply means a shift in design on my end. Instead of my main VR system I will turn my Sentry into an AMD based streaming/NAS PC. A few more dollars, but I love the building part much more than the using part, honestly.

Thank you, Dr. Zaber for this beautiful and powerful ITX building option!

Anyone knows what is the size of the hex screwdriver bit for the Sentry screws ?
and the the type/size of the Philips screwdriver also
I want to avoid damaging the screws with a smaller/larger screwdriver
Thanks

If I use a SFX-L power supply in the sentry, is there absolutely no way of putting in two 2.5" drives too?
Has anyone managed to ghetto fit 2 drives as well as a full size graphics card?

I'd love to experiment it myself, if I have the sentry on hand already:sick: two and a half months since shipped and counting

Guys. I am trying to do a different build than most popular one here, a proper media box. From the manual in the box, Figure 15, I can see there is a way to add 4 2.5" HDD if the GFX is a short one.

3. Can I pay to get more HDD mounting brackets?

1) There are three mounting positions in the GPU bay that you can occupy with 2.5" drives, the default hdd mounting in the middle of the case can fit only one drive per slot. You could fit 6 drives if two of them somehow fit under the GPU so the drives would be slim or the GPU would be a single slot, but that would limit the airflow to the GPU.

2) two drives in the central mounts, four in the quad drive brackets and additional two more in the other mounting slots in the GPU compartment.

3) We're not set up as a shop and thus additional international payments would be complicated/overly expensive for such small piece.
If you want more brackets it'll be faster if we give you a DXF file you can use to order those pieces at a local laser shop. I should probably pin up the DXF file in the website for this.

Finally as the NAS build would go there are also options for 3.5" that I somehow figured out quite late:

Note the fact you'll need flat sata connectors - both data and power for this so you might want to get yourself some splitters with flat power connectors if your psu doesn't have such.

I think a slim 7-9mm 2.5in drive can be mounted in the gpu bay under most graphics cards. It will work well with a blower because the fan is still one end and the drive could go at the other end. With an open air card though you'd completely block one of the fans.

If you use a blower card, then a single 2.5" can be mounted in the front most slot in the GPU compartment - blower cards are quite short and the blower end of nvidia gpu's is usually slimmer than the rest of the card. That might not work for the radeons though as those are quite monolithic bricks.

The screw socket is 2 mm hex but be careful because some online sellers are not properly measuring those - it has to be a 2 mm in "diameter" of the hex socket, it's for a M3 screw.

Thank you for the reply! If that works it would be great because my vega 64 may be peaking and overdrawing my Silverstone SX600-G, and I may have to upgrade to...sigh...another Silverstone. The SX800 seems to be the only choice. I'll try to stuff the drive in even it means stripping the SSD to the pcb.

In which direction were the screws misaligned? I think the problem might be the fact that some high-end boards have IO plates that push back board more than a reference io plate design. If that's the case then you could try loosening each screw and push the board against the io plate to see if the fourth one can be mounted.

That's why such buffy cards aren't green-lit on the compatibility spreadsheet.

Thank you, Dr. Zaber for this beautiful and powerful ITX building option!
Glad to hear from another satisfied backer :)

Honestly I'm not that impressed with the Node 202. The gpu bracket is utterly terrible. And overall it's not that small. It feels flimsy, big and hollow. I say lurk around here until you hear of someone that no longer needs or wants their sentry.

I grudgingly need to conform that. I bought one until I get my fingers on a Sentry, but although the footprint is okayish, it just does not feel nice. Tried to tell myself ist is just a little difference to the Sentry, but no. In between I got a Ncase M1 for just a fraction of the price and Ill try this. The node will be sold so a person only using an office PC.

4th Shipment White. Sent July 4th from Poland. Arrived at USPS Regional Facility August 19th! Should be out for delivery this week! So much hype! I can't wait to build in this! Thank you Zaber team!

Also on that note, 4th Shipment White. Sent July 4th from Poland as well. Mine just arrived at customs in Montreal and is being processed. Final destinations is Alberta, Canada. I have not seen anyone from Canada post shipping updates about their Sentry yet so thought I should inform some if they are not aware.

Is this correct ? Thanks SaperPL ZombiPL

The screws C and D are also Phillips screws - we've used those type of screws for the prototypes and thus those models were shown in the manual, but the ones included in the package are standard Phillips screws.

Sorry for the confusion and thanks for noticing this. Apart from that the rest looks okay :)

Case was just delivered this morning in South Dakota.

4th batch white Sentry delivered August 21st!

IMG_20170821_125116.jpg

Arrived in great shape. It had a tear in the black plastic, which I found out later was from my son, who was way more excited about seeing daddy's computer case than even daddy was.

IMG_20170821_181323.jpg

Box was bent, but nothing you wouldn't expect from a trip over the Atlantic.

IMG_20170821_181347.jpg

Small rip on the outside corner, no issues on the inside of the box.

IMG_20170821_181456.jpg

The wait was worth it!

IMG_20170821_181642.jpg

Love the bag and the postcard! Thanks for the nice touches!

IMG_20170821_181843.jpg

It really is lighter, smaller, and sleeker than you would believe! I can't wait to get started!

I still need my Noctua L9i and bracket. My setup is waiting:
IMG_20170721_202226.jpg

Thank you again Zaber team! It's been worth the wait and will be exactly what I anticipated! I'll post build pics when I get my cooler. Also, I plan to upgrade the faithful 750ti one day soon, but I'm amazed how much a new setup makes a difference on performance!
