RX 480 is apparently killing pcie slots

AMAZING COINCIDENCE.

RX480 revealed to be not be PCI-E compliant, and people start reporting dying boards when they use their shiny shiny new RX480s
There's what less than 5 reports? Are you sure there aren't any reports of dead/damaged hardware after people dropped in a 1070 or 1080? I mean most people don't exactly use proper ESD practices.

So I see 3, maybe 4 people claiming problems between your links. I'm not saying your wrong. I'm saying it's far from conclusive at this point.

I'm not saying it's conclusive, I'm saying it's far from unlikely at this point.

While I'm a team green fanboy, I really hope they can fix this issue (or non issue if reports are false) through bios or other means. AMD needs to stay competitive; it looked like they had a great mainstream product that would push Nvidia to react...

AMD's gonna have a whole lot of angry fanboys foaming at the mouth at the sight of their dead motherboards.

And I'm sure MB mfgs will deny RMAs because technically it's the user's fault for putting out-of-spec hardware into their MBs.

Funniest thing is, most of the reports so far are about dead AMD motherboards rofl

Not only is it true, but after using two of them just for initial testing (before overclock) my 3 PCI-E x16 channels died. I have no video output at all. The cards work in a different motherboard, but even my old 960 won't work at all in my 990FX I was using these 2 cards in.

Looking very ugly though

I can imagine the disbelief, 'but I did everything right...all AMD components have to be compatible right?!' Sad face...

I mean, honestly the original report can and will be discarded because it contains overclocked 8350 and overclocked 480 (not to mention that this was done on CX500, oh boy).

And i don't believe the second report.

The Rampage IV story is legit tho IMO.

Look at the bright side. They can get into the Intel hardware platform this time around. :cautious:

fair point about the fx8350, but even with a shitty psu it shouldnt kill the board

We have tested de power draw, and we made a special tool to make easier understanding.
That's confirmed here 126W power draw under furmark,.

The problem is that some cards use way way more power than others. It's pretty crazy. Clearly this was meant to run 100-150 MHz slower and in the end AMD has to push the clocks past the optimal level. Thus the results are what they are...

They believe Zen is the second coming. The PC industry slowdown is probably due to all of them holding out for Zen.

now instead focusing on who is saying what, let the video speak for itself, it is not an isolated experience, its happening to many people and on retail boards.

I just watched it and its very telling, AMD has to fix this problem ASAP, depending on how they fix this problem, the reviews that have been done this far should be all redone too, cause there is really only two ways around this, down clock the card significantly or increase its TDP and change its board design.

Same. I was excited reading the initial reviews and thought AMD had a winner at this price point. But this problem is a serious issue that needs to quickly be addressed. I hope that AMD doesn't just sweep this under the rug, for both their and the consumer's sake.

If they sweep it under the rug, the fucking rug will combust

Yeah, there was one guy who had a card die after updating his nVidia drivers and nobody jumped to any conclusions about nVidia drivers bricking cards. ;)

you know the issues he was having is probably not new by any means in regards to old cheap amd boards lol....I wouldn't touch one of those ultra cheaply made boards even with nvidia cards.
