Doom 4 E3 reveal.

The game suffers from the same bug as the beta, on the first launch the bethesda and id logo's render really slowly first time playing but its fine after that,

Weapons so far feel nice and the sound for them is good, you get the chainsaw pretty early on and its really satisfying to use (i think you chose a direction with the chainsaw which determines what way to cut, not 100% sure on this but i think an arrow of some type showed as i started to kill an imp with it). I'm getting around 40ish fps ingame but it feels faster than that probably due to the speed of the game. The glory kills are very fluid with the movement animation and don't really feel out of place at all. Simpler ones on the zombie type enemies are really fast, the ones on imps and upwards are a bit more elaborate, 1 glory kill i got on an imp was slamming its head into a wall which then exploded in a nice shower of blood and chunks, proximity to walls and where you look i think determines what kind of animation is activated.

Sounds promising so far - thanks for the feedback!

Thanks for posting those screenshots says on the store Page 9 hours so maybe it's midnight or eleven central.

I was trying to get support going for a New Quake game on Steam yesterday maybe a dev seen it.

I think I'll wait a bit but have to admit I'm tempted to buy it now. I grew up gaming in the late 80's and 90's and clearly remember the launch days of Doom 1 and 2.

Will I be able to max it out at 1920x1200 @ 60fps on a 3770K @ 4.5GHz and 970 @ 1350MHz?

I'd guess it would run pretty well, maybe not max out but good quality settings at least.

damn! going to have to wait until after work tomorrow
I'm going to sleep early tonight so I can wake up early to play it before work. Probably around 04:00, which will give me three hours before I have to get off my ass.

My only real issue with the game is a lot of the time its not immediately obvious where you have to go. The jumping and grabbing mechanic seems to play a huge part in getting to the next part of the level but a lot of the time you'll be looking for a doorway, when you really need to hop onto a box then grab onto a ledge.

Its one of those things where you know how the past games played and they were very grounded with almost no verticality, this is totally the opposite so you have to think along different lines.

Few 4k pics running on my pc. Advanced options has cinematic and gritty filters as well, think i had cinematic enabled.
[snip]

So the 4k performance on a single 980ti is that good, eh? Sort of mid 40s fps? with ups and downs? I was thinking I would have to drop res to 1440p. I have a 2600k @ 4.6 and a 980ti overclocked also.. this is encouraging. I am preloaded and ready for unlock. I have sooo much to do tomorrow but I gotta get some Doom in before work. :)

Pretty much yeah, theres a lot of odd settings you can adjust like sharpness, not really sure how much of an impact that has on framerate. Theres also a console command to get a couple of options to go to "nightmare" which is one step up form ultra. Don't really see much difference with that though.

add to launch options : +com_allowconsole 1
then when on the games menu bring up the console
and type : menu_advancedsettingsallow

Not sure if thats the right command or not, just one thats doing the rounds.

I have NO doubts that if Doom does well, a new Quake will follow. Approaching 20th Anniversary next month!. Can you fucking believe it 20 years??

I'm pretty sure Id Tech 6 doesn't support SLI.

SLI never seems to work in id games, so I don't expect it to work either. However I have SLI and was curious so I had been googling this earlier and came across this link which shows a snippet from a config file containing lines about SLI.

I'm not counting on it working but it would be nice. I'll find out very soon once the game unlocks.

Early buzz from forums is really good, people are having a blast playing it. It seems I should have around 60fps on mostly high with my 970. Less than an hour to go!

Someone give the thumbs-up tonight if the rest of us should jump in and buy keys Friday for single player!

So does SLI work?

Seems capped at 60 fps for me...any way to unlock it? I remember seeing a setting for max frames in the beta screenies...but I'm not seeing it now.

Maybe that was the "Fix" Id was talking about when the 1080 exceeded their engine's FPS expectations was to put in a 60 FPS cap!

It seems to be "capped" at 60 but I will sometimes see the in-game counter jump to 70 something....very strange.

In any case, so far it seems to run fairly well at 1440 and Ultra detail for me. The movement feels a bit laggy / stuttery but it doesn't seem to be framerate related so I'm not sure.

The game itself looks pretty good but really not amazing. It has that same "RAGE" feel where from a distance it looks good but when you get up close it looks pretty bad. Also, for some reason there seems to be a weird grid / hatching over everything as shown in this screenshot:

http://images.akamai.steamuserconte...729/C72B3EEC0B65383567D62A6A56A502DABF97BC8D/

No idea what is going on there but it looks really bad, and is pretty noticeable.

Gameplay so far is fun, extremely repetitive so far because it's basically the same 2-3 enemies over and over with no variation (all enemies of a type look the same, which I guess is the Doom way).

Surprisingly, there is a pretty low ammo limit so far. You can only carry 20 shells for your shotgun which is nothing, but ammo seems to be reasonably common. I do hate having to scrounge around for ammo in the middle of arena combat, though. Maybe later there are upgrades to hold more ammo?

Other than that, gunplay feels good, the glory kills are good, albeit also repetitive...only gun so far that doesn't feel good is the pistol, it feels like a pea shooter. Would be nice if it had a little more weight to it, but it is fairly weak so I guess I can understand.

Overall, not disappointed yet but also not blown away.

So does SLI work?

SLI seems ok, both cards were working and I was getting good frames. Running 1080p with Ultra settings, seemed to average around 100fps.

edit: Nevermind, I don't really think SLI is working (or at least not working well). I had it enabled from the start, and MSI afterburner was showing both cards working however the utilizations were around 80ish on card 1 and 70ish on card 2. Disabled SLI, utilization on card 1 shoots up to 98% and I am getting around the same fps.

edit2: I can't seem to get DSR working with SLI, just gives me a black screen. DSR will work for me when SLI is disabled.

Restarted the game and now definitely uncapped for some reason. Getting mostly 90-120 fps at 1440p with max settings.

You get the chainsaw yet? Chainsaw kills drop a ton of ammo.

Yeah.... this is good. Smooth, feel really connected to the player, like zero lag, tons of gore and ways to come back from low health... The environment and monsters are really well done. I know what I'm doing like all weekend, lol. Even at 4k my 980ti is hanging in there really well.. in the 50s fps mostly with a mix of IQ settings med/high/ultra and a bunch of the little hit the check mark settings.. too many to study right then I just wanted to play... I'll experiment with different image quality settings tomorrow.

PS: my 980ti was running at 1501 like most of the time with occasional dips to 1488. It didn't throttle back too much.

It's not bad at all not overwhelming I would of made the Sound effect different Maps leave something to be desired.

What a fucking hot game.

The graphics are awesome.

The campaign is very interesting.

The mp must be a lot of fun even if I don't understand the no ffa.

And the SnapMap thing is a nice piece of software. Can't wait to try the maps of friends.

wow!
