Doom 4 E3 reveal.

Idtech5 doesn't really support SLi, right? Or did they fix that?
No, but I think there is a workaround to kind of get it working (visual anomalies occur). But we also don't know if this "new" engine will support SLI or not, yet.

I found some info on the single player campaign as that's what I'm most interested in.

Doom Datamining Uncovers Difficulty Levels and Randomized Bosses

It’s thought that certain bosses will be randomly placed in the game world, based off a system found to do so in the game’ code. While this may seem like a minor addition, it’s easy to see how multiple playthroughs of Doom would be improved by the possibility of a powerful enemy lurking in the shadows unexpectedly.

However, this isn’t the only way that the new Doom will test players. New information on the game’s difficulty levels was found via this datamining effort, and the classic Nightmare mode looks to be as challenging as ever—if the player dies once, their attempt at clearing the campaign is over.

I'll probably have a few hours of fun in mp but the campaign + mods is what I'll be spending most of my time with. It's good to see they're trying to make multiple play throughs fun.

Hmmm, the title says "Doom", but I see 0 Doom when playing multiplayer.

Still had fun, though. Reminded me of my Quake days.

the open beta is capped at 60 fps with no way to remove it. apparently you'll be able to raise the cap up to 144(?) in the full release.

*the 60FPS cap, not you.

Beta multiplayer is open. I'm sleepy and only played one match. Not going to give a first impression other than it ran like butter on my system.

Just played some of the beta as well -- even though it's supposed to be "dark/doom/evil" it has a kiddy feel to it. (playing on PC) The fact you can have your avatar doing the "Carlton dance" just kinda tells me what level this was designed for. Felt like a bunch of guys in Halo suits running around shooting each other with cap guns.

The game itself is no challenge to PC hardware, even playing on my 970m, the GPU barely broke a sweat with all the eye candy turned on. I also hated the fact that actually getting into a game took forever, not because of my connection, but that lobby/random style of matchmaking where you sit waiting for a lobby, once you join the lobby, you have to sit around for 45 seconds or so for everyone to join, then you have to sit there for it to load, then you have to sit and wait for the match to start.

The use of retarded power ups? I can already see ID selling DLC "power booster packs" for $5.99 - want super armor at the start of the map? you can buy it with special "id tokens" It's the same kind of shit they did with the "power up cards" at the beginning of each round in Titanfall.

Just like the new Ghostbusters movie -- this is a shitty stab at milking a classic series for money from the next generation of kids. Glad they released the beta, I'd rather spend $60 bucks on pretty much anything else :)

I honestly didnt know what to expect from a Doom MP, but this felt more like UT and Halo had a baby... eh...

I'm only interested in the SP with Doom, I didn't expect a multiplayer FPS revolution with by any means. As long as the actual game itself is dark and gritty, reminiscent of the old school, only thing that matters to me. Oh, that and being able to get it for far less than $60 on day 1, apparently the campaign isn't very long.

If that is true that the campaign isn't very long i'll be pissed. Why the fuck they feel the need to focus time and energy on attaching multiplayer to everything I don't get. Doom has ALWAYS been about the SP. If you wanted multi-player you played Quake or UT (yes, I know Quake was SP at first too). I hope the SP is good. I still get the urge to play Doom 3 every once in a while. That campaign was pretty damn compelling and pretty long too.

They already said a month ago the "average" playthrough was around 13 hours. Shooter campaigns aren't known for being too long in general, though. Minus the ones with RPG elements like Borderlands.

13 hours is just fine for a shooter campaign.

Kinda bummed it doesn't support 3440x1440. You know, my resolution...

Doom meets CoD.

I wasn't impressed. Ran perfect on my system @4K, looked like shit while doing so.

I just traded my LG 34" 21:9 curved ultrawide for this reason. Very few games support this resolution/aspect ratio, and the "fixes" are buggy all around. The only games I could get to run near perfectly were Rocket League and The Division. Everything else had skewed UIs, or stretched portions, some screen tearing, etc.

I've had very few issues. Only blizzard which only my kids play. Worst case you have some black bars on the edges and play as a 2560x1440 (or whatever it is).

I've had no issues with large releases. That's why I am disappointed here.

i hope the campaign is better, cause the multi sucks.

Agreed, the multiplayer is trash. Literally feels like old school unreal tournament which is unacceptable nowadays. It was boring as hell. I actually enjoy halo style multiplayer which is more competitive but run and gun fast paced hopping around is so stupid.

Single player may be fun, but that's it. Don't buy this game for the multiplayer that's for sure.

I don't see how it feels like UT at all? There's no dodge, no rocket jumping, no weapons pickups and everything feels slow slow slow.

Play UT4 then jump in this you'll see exactly what I mean. Shoot, go play Quake Live and the difference is even larger.

The doom multi-player feels like halo, which isn't a good thing. Slow turn speed, slow move speed, and almost no jump height. The weapons load outs are unnecessary in a doom game. On top of all of this, the weapon balance and damage is practically non existant. Rockets do almost no damage and the shotgun seems to one shot people with full health.

All that aside, I don't dislike the game, I think it needs tweaking to be better though. Maybe have both modes, a slower load out mode (sort of like halo's swat mode) and an arena mode with increased move speed and weapons pickups.

Okay, I downloaded this because I wanted to see for myself.

This game is fucking BAD. Like, not just disappointing but straight-up BAD.

I knew it was going to be terrible as soon as a splash screen popped up informing me that if I had an nVidia card, the next pre-rendered video was going to stutter horribly and may take several minutes to complete. It didn't lie.

First off, the game looks fucking terrible. Everything looks like it's from 2010 and smeared with Vasoline, no matter what graphical settings / AA settings you use. And there is no way to turn off the PPAA, so you are stuck with the blur. I turned Motion Blur off first thing and it still looks awful.

Second, it took WAY longer than it should have to find a match. I would imagine that many people should be playing this right now and yet it still took several minutes to even find ANYONE for TDM. Ridiculous.

Lastly, the gameplay itself was just...meh. Movement speed felt good, the guns felt good, but everyone is like a fucking tank and can take 5+ shots to the face with a rocket launcher, making it essentially useless. I'm sure they had to balance it this way due to not having weapons spawn in the arena, but that's just another way they fucked this up so that isn't an excuse.

Because melee is essentially an instant kill, you get a lot of people just trying to run around you spamming melee attack hoping to get an easy kill. Garbage.

I happened to be right next to the Demon Rune when it spawned, so I got to try that out. Basically you just become semi-invulnerable and rape everyone with rockets for awhile before you eventually die. It really doesn't add anything to the gameplay other than giving one team an advantage for a few minutes, and it telegraphs the spawn location just before it spawns, but you most likely won't have enough time to get there before someone else that was lucky enough to be nearby gets it. It's basically like the hero tokens in SW Battlefront - a bullshit mechanic that is mostly just a huge cock tease.

I couldn't even make it through a full TDM match before I got bored and quit the game.

If this is the kind of nonsense that id Software is putting out these days, then id is dead to me. I thought maybe they would redeem themselves after RAGE but...nope.

Not many people are playing this for an open beta. The peak players count is only 19,585.
DOOM Open Beta - Steam Charts

I kept getting high ping servers in the mid 100s. Only 1 match had a ping in the mid 60s. I would have thought midnight Pacific time, would put me on west coast servers. My ping from Vancouver to Miami is 100. I can't figure out why it would be putting me on servers with a ping of over 150.

Apparently this is going to have unlocked FPS for PC's at release.

That being said, I haven't played it but from what I've seen of the multiplayer I am incredibly disappointed. I have a feeling I'll be buying this game cheap just for the single player.

Same. So frustrated. I have no interest in the multi and I am not writing the game off just yet but I wish the devs would just make a Doom game that knocks our socks off. Doom was, of course, my favorite franchise at one point. It was basically the primary reason why I wanted a computer in the mid 90s. It was really something special at the time. It's so sad to see this and other franchises slip into mediocrity because the proper amount of fucks aren't given.

Will play because it's Doom, but can't see spending $50-$60 or even $30, honestly. Unless of course the game comes out and the SP experience is unexpectedly great. If it's meh then this is probably going to be a $5 - $7.50 title for me, and that's very disappointing.

Just play the new UT, it's free...& light years better than this hunk of crap. I literally installed it 10 mins later.

Same as well, pretty much everyone else here. The mp doesn't feel at all like a Doom game. I mean, how do the devs play this and go "yeah, Doom fans are going to love this". Uh.. crazy pills anyone?

I have seen several claims that it plays like UT, its utterly baffling to say the least. For all the reasons you have already given, it is nothing at all like UT....hell it might actually be good if it was.

Apparently the MP side of things was developed by the same studio that worked on the MP components of Halo 4 and Halo MCE, which goes a long way to explaining why it plays and feels like a half arsed Halo/CoD clone.

All that aside, I don't dislike the game, I think it needs tweaking to be better though. Maybe have both modes, a slower load out mode (sort of like halo's swat mode) and an arena mode with increased move speed and weapons pickups.

Notwithstanding that the MP is not ostensibly offensive, the big problem is that the lack of a server browser and community servers is going to kill off any longevity. I would be surprised to see any significant player pool 6 months after release.

Getting absolutely trashed on steam reviews, I bet Bethesda is regretting doing an open beta now.

And I regret Bethesda acquiring id Software. This is literally the worst match ever, despite what Carmack was saying. These RPG clowns will never let us have a proper multiplayer game. It doesn't even have strafe jumping. The first id game to lack that (and any form of advances movement) in 20 years.

Even the new UT game is way better than this as it has proper movement and weapons. This is id Software only by name.

All hope is lost.

Wolfenstein turned out okay, so... there's that.

I've spent 2 hours just sitting 'Waiting for players...' - I have so far only managed a single game.

If only there was some kind of server browser, you know, like games used to have a decade ago...

It wouldn't be a fair comparison since that's probably not the latest build.

Duke Nukem Forever had local on release and dedicated servers a bit later. Doom's net code seems ok, DNF sucked, but no server browser and servers is bullshit.

I just played about 3 minutes of a match and to say that I am uttetly disapointed would be a massive under statement. I've been playing ID's games since they started like most of you guys. I mean fuck, I played Q3 arena for years like it was a religion and all I can say is this is a dismal utter piece of trash. There is no component of this that feels like any ID game before it in any way. This is totally made for todays cod/halo kiddies and makes me sick. This is NOT what this type of game is supposed to look/act/or play like. Oh and did I mention it looks like shit?? I mean its fucking 2016 and this is the best they can do?? Are you fucking kidding me? Jesus I'm getting more pissed the more I think about this garbage as I type this.

To hell with Bethesda and shame on ID. Carrmack should have never left.

I had a similar experience last night: short-lived and not impressed. It probably didn't help that I had just binged on Overwatch either.

Menu music was nice though: had that Quake II sound to it.
