The Witcher 3 Wild Hunt: Official Thread

The patch is great. I only played for a few minutes, but the small things they added are very useful. Like the arrow on the world map that points you back to your location when scrolling around. Also looks like they improved the way the water drops off of Geralt when he gets out of water. Very realistic. That may be a graphics card thing though. I went from a Single GTX 980 to SLI 980TI Classifieds, so everything looks a little better than when I actually put 150 hours into the game.

Can't wait for the DLC. Bought the DLC Pass a while ago.

How many DLCs are planned? GOG is discounting the HoS 15%. Will the Season pass at 25 ultimately be a better deal?

Not sure what this patch did but it screwed my working SLI. On the 1.08x patch my cards were pegged 99% most of the time, now they both sit between 50-60%. Of course the framerates and frametimes are junk now.

On another note, for the more experienced players, I am lvl 17 now, and wondering what is best to do first, the main story and then the secondaries and contracts, or the other way around? Trying to do all at once seem to level me up too fast, and not getting decent exp from some quests (yes i would have liked to be OP in some cases), got 1 exp from one quest lol.

looks like they are going to continue reworking the game until they are completely happy with it, same as prior games. the last patch was pretty damn huge for this stage in the process.

I did all the secondary quests, witcher contracts, and treasure hunts 100% before I finished the main story. I'd usually do a few, then do a little of the main quest, then back to secondary stuff. I also completed 100% of the Velen and Novigrad points of interest or whatever you want to call them, before I beat the game. I still have a lot of the Skillige question marks left, mainly because there are a crapload of them, and most of them are water based. Meaning smuggler caches surrounded by sirens. I got sick of them fast, so I finished all of the other Skellige content aside from the question marks, then went ahead and beat the game.

I beat the game at lvl 35 and had a full set of Legendary Wolven Gear. I was pretty overpowered, but after 150 hours, I felt that it was warranted and fitting for him to be a badass at that point.

Do note that your decisions change the ending of the game GREATLY, so choose wisely. I got what was considered one of the "best" endings, mainly because I played Geralt true to character. Watch the trailer "Killing Monsters" if you want to see exactly the Geralt I played. And after beating the game and seeing the endings I could have gotten, I'm glad I did it the way I did.

Reading more on the CDPR forums the performance problems can be found on single gpu setups as well. Not sure at this point if we need a new patch or a new driver. Besides the performance problem, the new system of loading objects in the world is hilarious(y bad) at times. I'll give the play a rest until some fixes arrive.

Thanks for the info. Almost 60 hours in and that's kinda the way I play also, still on some decisions I have second thoughts if what i've chosen was really the best way. It feels as choosing the lesser evil sometimes.

That video isn't in-game is it ? Gotta be CGI cut scene ?

Those graphics look jaw dropping amazing.

Thanks

The distinction can come down to semantics, but I feel there are a few distinctions between DLC and an expansion:

1.) DLC generally adds small add-ons. Like a mission, or alternate outfits. Gear sets, new swords, and even a small village could be considered a DLC.
2.) Expansions generally add new game mechanics, new story missions with its own arc, or even new zones

Hearts of Stone adds:

A new 10-hour campaign (this is arguably about as large as some AAA titles depending on how they are played)
A new game mechanic (Runecrafting)
Expanded map with new areas to discover, including Oxenfurt Academy.
New skills in the tree
New enemies added
More Gwent

All of the above would be considered an "expansion pack" and respectfully deserves that sort of pricetag. CDPR has a pretty generous pricetag for the what they are providing, IMO.

I still haven't touched Witcher 3 yet but I don't mind as they seem to be rolling out another major patch every other week...by the time I get around to playing it it'll be the definitive version

Well I spoke too soon about the latest patch breaking my SLI performance, turns out I didn't have SLI enabled after the latest nvidia driver update.

Anyway getting roughly the same frames as I was back on 1.07 and 1.08.

Guess I won't be sleeping tonight, downloading the expansion as we speak.

Also found out why 1.10 patch was so big is because it has 1.01 to 1.10 patches consolidated together.

yea... I've noticed they've been putting patches together, and that's pretty annoying. It's nice that they have a one patch thing but lots of people obvious is adding patches as they release and this is unnecessary downloading.

Late to the party but just got this going after building a new PC this weekend (specs in sig). Holy shit, this game looks amazing and is fun to play. Need to hook up my 360 controller and see if it's a little easier to manage.

So I've got the Expansion downloaded. I can't decide whether to start the expansion on my NG+ where I've just started doing Baron's quests again or start the expansion from my previous playthrough. I've read it's completely separate to the main storyline but if you're going to be playing the HoS on a NG+ save make sure you have completed most of Baron's quest for access to Novigrad.

The game is flawlessly played with a gamepad.

Anyone heard anything about a re-release? I want to hold off buying the stand-alone game, then having to separately purchase the DLC and Expansions if I can get them all bundled together for a bit cheaper.

My gaming rig broke last weekend. Trying to build a new one so I can play this, but there's apparently a shortage of 6700K's around here right now (related to the SGX update? I dunno). Sigh.

Any advantages to doing so (combat?), or just personal preference? I played Witcher 1 and 2 with KB/M and once I mastered combat I had no complaints. I've been contemplating buying an Xbox controller for my PC which is why I'm asking. Currently use an ancient Thrustermaster gamepad for racing games and KB/M for everything else.

This was one of the first games I've played with a gamepad (keyboard + mouse guy), and the experience was smoother with the gamepad IMHO. I wouldn't say there was a combat advantage.

I agree, I'm a fan of keyboard + mouse but this kind or game are played better with pad.

I can't really say that there are any overt advantages in combat, but everything just works a lot smoother as far as the gameplay goes. I'm a pretty strict KBM guy, but the control scheme and controlling Geralt feels a lot better with a controller than KBM. I think the OOC menu system and inventory is more pleasant with a KBM though, but that's not as important to me as the gameplay feeling better with controller.

is the expansion "deep" enough to justify replaying? I am somewhat leaning towards waiting for the next one first....

Well I just completed the expansion last night. It was definitely worth it. One thing that is broken with my game is that since I originally used a trainer to level up to the original Geralt level cap at level 70, after 1.10 patch the level 70 is no longer the highest and throughout the HoS quests, some looted items required me to be level 80 and such and I couldn't equip those items due to the trainer I used, might have to play again. Took me about 14 hours to complete the HoS quests because I took my sweet time and I kept dying due to the level 60+ monsters. And I didn't use any cheats.

Heya folks, I am getting this game from Hardocp as one of the winners of their contest here, the one with Corsair!

Just wondering if I can set the graphics to ultra with hairworks turned off on my gtx 780 and get a good framerate. I am hoping for the minimum framerate to exceed 30 fps (at 1080p). Should work fine but I heard Witcher 3 didn't run so well on Kepler, perhaps it has been patched or driver updates fixed this.

Also, it looks like people favor game controllers over kbm. I have a wired 360 pad and a DS4. Which would be better, or is it just personal preference? I have never used the DS4 on PC and don't even know how to hook this up.

Ultra w/foliage visibilty range turned to high, and no hairworks, and you should get a locked 60fps @1080p.

Also keep sharpening to low, it looks lot better and blended in then the jagged look of high sharpening.

I always use keyboard and mouse as games like these are built for, I keep the controller for driving and plane sim games.
