The Witcher 3 Wild Hunt: Official Thread

Hearts of Stone doesn't quite fulfill its expansion billing

By calling Hearts of Stone an expansion, Polish developer CD Projekt Red set an expectation- an expectation of something grand, and something extraordinary...Ordinary, you see, is downloadable content...Expansions are rarer, bigger beasts...But in the case of Hearts of Stone, 'expansion' is misleading...Sure, it's £8, so it's not comparable to a £35 World of Warcraft expansion, and it has only been in development for around five months, but still: it doesn't quite live up to the billing...

I disagree entirely. How is this not by definition an expansion?

A new 10-hour campaign (this is arguably about as large as some AAA titles depending on how they are played)
A new game mechanic (Runecrafting)
Expanded map with new areas to discover, including Oxenfurt Academy.
New skills in the tree
New enemies added
More Gwent

...For around $8...

What sense of entitlement does one have in order to think that they should change the nomenclature to a simple "DLC"? I would agree that this would named as a "DLC" if each of these items were introduced separately. Then to say that after they gave us 16 free DLC additions.

I think this is a true expansion through and through.

Not gonna lie... I hope Shani is bangable..... and a possible third interest. Though she didn't leave any real impression on me in the witcher, it's just nice to have and alternate to the two.

It's not $8.

As for bangable character, there can only be 3 or so more people. Eilhart, Margeretta, Shani and maybe another 1 or 2 characters from W1 or the book.

They should have either:
A) Called it a DLC
B) Charged expansion price for the same thing

And there would have been no problems lol

bioshock releases 1.5 hours of content. seems like there is more bitching here than with that.

Finished TW3 today. 140 hours. Best game I've ever played and sets the bar extremely high. I honestly don't know how I'll be happy with games that don't measure up after this. Such a fucking beautiful, living, captivating world with so fucking much to do. I'd pay $100 for this game and not blink an eye now that I know how amazing it was.

I hope we see a lot of games in the future with this scope, polish, character development, voice acting, amazing graphics, fun factor, and on and on and on. Give me a Scifi game made exactly like this game and I'll pay whatever you want.

As far as the expansions, already bought them and I don't care if they're 10 minutes. This company deserves my money and I will give it to them happily. And anyone complaining is definitely entitled and one of those people who would bitch about being given a gold bar because it's heavy. This is an amazing fucking game and PC gaming as a whole will benefit from it in multiple ways.

My only complaint is that it's over.

It's their next game.Cyberpunk 2077.Everyone seems to think a certain Witcher character who went to a certain place that seemed futuristic will make an appearance.Eh,that was as spoiler free as i could say it.;)

They never showed this right? I kept waiting for Ciri to jump worlds so that she enters a sci fi one but it never really happened

she talks about it dont think they ever showed though

Never showed it, but there was a quest where Ciri hints it in W3. I picked this up throughout the game and talked about this some pages back.

Australian region based Steam prices.

https://www.gog.com/support/website_help/payments_pricing_promos

You should give GOG a try then:

6. What are your prices in different countries?

All items on GOG.com are available in Euro (EUR), Pounds sterling (GBP), Australian dollars (AUD) and Russian rubles (RUB), with other countries being billed in US dollars (USD). This should minimize the odds of you being charged extra by your bank, for making a currency conversion.

If you’re living in a country that is billed in EUR, GBP, AUD or RUB by default, you always have the option to pay the equivalent in USD, if that’s more convenient for you.

For example, for our most common price-points - $5.99 and $9.99, the equivalents in local currencies would be:
5,99 USD= 5.49 EUR = 4,09 GBP = 7,79 AUD = 359 RUB
9.99 USD = 9,19 EUR = 6,79 GBP = 12,99 AUD = 599 RUB

While our older, “back-catalog” games, and most other items, usually cost roughly the same in all currencies, some new games in our catalog may have different prices based on where you are physically located in the world In such cases, you may find that you're asked to pay a different amount than people in other regions do. However, we offer store credit, which you can use in future purchases, to make up for the price difference. Regional pricing is something that is undertaken at the request of the company for whom we are selling the game, but we do our best to go the extra mile and make it right for everyone.

Our company is based in Europe and the VAT/Taxes are all included in the items' prices. This means that GOG.com will always charge you the exact order total visible at checkout. With our location in mind, please remember that we have no control over your bank's additional international card transaction fees (where applicable). Some banks don't charge their customers extra and some do, but there are two ways of avoiding the possibility of extra fees. One is using funds already present on your PayPal account to make purchases (instead of using a card through PayPal). The other is using paysafecard (for details, scroll up to paragraph 2).

so the first expansion is $9.99 and the 2nd $19.99...that seems fair...they could have easily charged $19.99 for each or even more

Well, can't you get both for 20 with the expansion pass? Or does that go away after both have been released?

$20 for 10 hours of gameplay? I don't think I'd go for that, personally.

The first one is 10 hours of additional gampley. The second expack will offer 20 hours.

Taken from gog.com:
Hearts of Stone will take Geralt on an all-new 10-hour adventure into the wilds of No Man’s Land and the nooks and alleys of Oxenfurt, where he’ll try to complete a contract from the mysterious Man of Glass. Caught in a thick tangle of deceit, Geralt will need all his cunning and strength to solve the mystery and emerge unscathed.
Blood and Wine, a 20-hour tale that will introduce the all-new in-game region of Toussaint, will take Geralt to a land untainted by war, where an atmosphere of carefree indulgence and knightly ritual masks an ancient, bloody secret.

it is because it costs more to ship electrons to aus...

really though not GOGs fault, there is some sort of regulated sweet heart deals in the game distribution system of AUS, and nobody wants to piss them off

Nah it's more to do with the latter you mentioned.

100% completed Velen and the starting area, got to Novigrad and.....just completely lost interest. Shallow combat, too much rambling, and the armor + weapons are all useless compared to the Witcher gear. Eh, either I am just losing interest in open world games or it's just not my "type" of game. Almost seems like there is "too" much to do, to the point of where it is excessive.
The quests are extremely well written though and the art direction is fantastic.

Don't worry this happens. I overloaded on Witcher as well and almost lost interest when I hit Skellige. Then I tried some other open world games like Mad Max and MGS V and came back for some Witching. Also 100% doing an area is not a good idea. It's good to mix up the main quest from time to time to be reminded of what you are working towards.

...and the armor + weapons are all useless compared to the Witcher gear...

This was something that annoyed me, once I figured it out. There's a scene in which one of Geralt's friends gives him a beautiful (silver) sword that had been in his family for several generations. I thought it was a sweet scene with an old man passing on an heirloom to a dear friend in hopes that it will help him in the coming trial...

...But that sword isn't even as good as the entry level cat school sword you've already had for like 10 levels at that point.

^^Agreed! There are a few times I remember NPC's making a big deal out of giving you gear that was special to them, and you really expect it to be worth using. That one time in particular was a huge disappointment, and almost felt embarrassed to have to go sell that sword afterwards. I almost went and sold it to the blacksmith right outside that same castle, but instead I decided to go sell it in Novegrad where at least no one would know what I'd done (or that their leader was a moron who didn't know anything about swords). :p

The game really needs to check against your level and what gear you're already carrying and scale certain quest-related items so they're more significant when you get to them.

99% of the gear in the Witcher 3 is useless once you have access to any Witcher sets. The only thing random gear is good for is breaking down into raw materials or selling for gold.
I don't disagree with the Witcher sets being great, but maybe there should have only been two versions of each. One that unlocks around level 12-15 and another at 27. That way all of that stuff you find between levels 18-26 actually has some use.
That would also remove some of the tedium of hunting for Witcher set blueprints. Outside of 1-2 larger dungeons those hunts were weak.
