Star Citizen - media blowout, Chris Robert's new game

They need to cover their bases and last I check that is the basic EULA of kickstarter (hence I keep saying crowd funding needs to have lawmakers have a good hard look at it).

Except Kickstarter also says their ToS requires backers to either deliver on what they said, or refund.

"Requires" is such a strong word, there are now several kickstarters that have all but vanished into dust with people trying to figure out some kind of a legal action to be taken only to discover that the laws simple do not exist (they freely gave their money). I think it was Washington that was the first State that is now actively trying to pass laws to somewhat protect people who pay into crowd funding. I like crowd fund and even understanding that my money could vanish I have pledged in to at least one kickstarter that I could consider questionable if I didn't know the people involved in it and the full backstory of the original project from the 80s. My biggest fear is that Feds drop the hammer and choke crowd funding to the point that its not viable anymore. Even CIG has stated that they are not to keen to have to Feds step in and start giving them hell.

Very very soon

That 350r will vanish against the night sky and you will not see it coming for you until its to late.

"YOUR SOUL BELONGS TO US!"

EDIT: You monies belongs to us with no expectation of a product. Your opinion does not matter and we have the right to censor if we so chose and terminate your account and anything we promised you without giving back your (*cough* our) monies. Let me know if I missed anything else.

XI. INDEMNIFICATION

YOU HEREBY AGREE TO INDEMNIFY, DEFEND AND HOLD HARMLESS PIRANHA GAMES FROM AND AGAINST ANY AND ALL CLAIMS, LAWSUITS, DAMAGES, LOSSES, LIABILITIES AND COSTS (INCLUDING ATTORNEYS’ FEES) THAT DIRECTLY OR INDIRECTLY ARISE OR RESULT FROM YOUR USE OR MISUSE OF THE GAME AND/OR THE SOFTWARE, OR ANY VIOLATION BY YOU OF ANY OF THE PROVISIONS OF THIS LICENSE AGREEMENT. Piranha Games reserves the right, at its own expense and in its sole and absolute discretion, to assume the exclusive defense and control of any matter otherwise subject to indemnification by you, in which event you will cooperate with Piranha Games in asserting any available defenses.

I don't understand this. Is this basically saying you can't sue them, and are also responsible to legally defend PGI if they get sued?

Hey everyone!

We have made some big changes to our weapons and projectiles in 0.9.

The biggest change to weapons is that they no longer auto fire on the predicted hit location of a target when the aim cursor is hovering over said target. Instead, the player will have to focus fire on lead target indicators. These lead target indicators use the best DPS weapon ( projectile speed, etc ) within each weapon group, with a vastly improved targeting prediction algorithm, to find the just the right spot to tickle your foes. To hit a target, players will now have to align up his or her aim crosshair over the lead indicator and wait for crosshair to turn into a green diamond. The green diamond indicates a weapon has moved into position and is ready to fire on the converged point.

The next big change to weapons is the convergence system. Currently we force dynamic convergence on all weapons, but in the future manual/static convergence will be an entity which players can control. The dynamic convergence system will ensure the guns converge on to the point you are looking at through the aim crosshair within a reasonable distance so you will hit your target if you aim at the lead target.

There where also some some funky bugs with the projectiles as well which prevented the projectiles from inheriting the ships full velocity when fired. This issue along with some bugs in the target prediction algorithm is another reason why you would miss so often even with auto-fire.

Finally, this is the kind of targetting system that I want than what is in the game right now.

Finally, this is the kind of targetting system that I want than what is in the game right now.

This is going to make targeting adjustments pretty hard while configuring the space craft however it will individualize the game play style since there will be more than one way of using the same weapon. You can have them set up non converging and fire from any distance hoping to strike multiple subsystems or have them converge on a single point, but have a specific engagement distance since the guns will be horrible in accurate anything farther or closer than that, but if you manage to strike you would be heavily damaging which ever subsystem you managed to hit due to concentration of firepower.

At least we do not have to worry about vertical convergence. If this was atmospheric flight we would have to account for the bullets being pulled down by gravity before making it to their target.

That thing looks like a mosquito asking to be swatted. I shall oblige :D

So, those who activated the DragonCon promo can now buy cheaper game packages.

Dragon-Con-PAX-Arena-Commander-Starter @$40:

Decent deal for just taking the time to activate a code.

Note: If you didn't activate the code you won't have access to these links.

have they mentioned how long they will be up at that price? i mean i have a hornet package as my main package but i could always cross that into something else and get the hornet $10 cheaper

Not sure. Here's the email I got with the info:

Thank you for trying out Arena Commander during Star Citizen’s first-ever free trial period! We’re sharing every step of Star Citizen’s development with the community. Arena Commander is a pre-alpha module that we developed to get people into the cockpits of their ships as soon as possible… and to get their feedback about things like the flight model, matchmaking, control interface and more!

The finished Star Citizen game that backers have pledged for will be comprised of many such modules, forming a living, breathing persistent universe. From shipping cargo to fighting pirates to exploring unknown stars, Star Citizen’s world is being created to foster many kinds of play styles and to allow for unlimited space adventure.

As thanks for helping us ‘go wide’ with our public testing, we’d like to offer you a discount pledge package that can get you started in the ‘Verse. Star Citizen requires a single purchase to play; anything offered in the pledge store will be available to earn in the finished game. If you’ve already pledged for the game but would like to further support the project, discount versions of the other two Arena Commander ships (300i and Hornet) are also available exclusively to users who tried the Dragon*Con or PAX code!

Regardless of whether you pledge, we’d love to hear about your experience. You can access our interactive community at forums.robertsspaceindustries.com. Let us know what you liked, what you’d like to see changed and where you’d like to see us go with Star Citizen.

We hope you enjoyed Arena Commander; there’s a lot more to come!

Cheers,
CIG Customer Support

It sounds to me like it's a permanent addition to the store cause it is possible to add multiples to your cart (I just added 22x 300i's and the pricing was correct @$990 total)

Wow, that looks amazing. So glad I got the cable fixed today! Off to fly some AC!

Mother of.... :eek:

After viewing the latest videos, I'm finishing-up Fallout: New Vegas with the major factions fighting the Legion at Hoover Dam in a quick manner, trashing the current ship I have, getting a 350R with the game, brushing-off the dust on my flightstick and going full, head-on involvement with Star Citizen. Looks to be amazing to play. It's got me by the gonads. :p

Update: Arena Commander 0.9 RC2 WILL release tomorrow - 0.9 RC4 might if it passes QA.

Nice! It looks like the new patch is coming tomorrow morning. This is a quick summary of what's coming:

- Murray Cup Racing Mode: As shown at Gamescom, players can now race their pledge ships in a specially designed upper-atmospheric scenario!
- Vanduul Swarm Co-Op: Take on the alien hoards with a friend, or competitor!
- Flyable M50 and 350R: The M50 and the 350R have been readied for flight to kick off the race mode. These ships will now be flyable in all Arena Commander game modes.
- Private Matches: Tired of being matched with random players in AC? Private matches will let you play with friends!
- Friend Codes: We’re launching a code system for both private and public matches so you can connect with your wingmen.
- Leaderboards: Your performance in Arena Commander’s various modes will display on the RSI website and allow you to compare with others.
- Updated Ship Performance: We’ve increased the speed and acceleration of every ship. With this we’ve also reworked the afterburner mechanic to increase acceleration instead of top speed.
- HUD Update: We’ve overhauled the usability of the visor HUD interface so you can customize your ships systems much more easily in flight.
- New Hangars: We’ve remastered all of Star Citizen’s Hangars with the new forward-looking room system and added the Asteroid Hangar.
- New Pause Menu: Our refactored pause menu is a large step forward aesthetically, and will support new features like custom keybindings in the future. In the meantime we’ve included selectable profiles for the most common peripherals.
- 6DOF: With the improvements to the IFCS and flight physics we are now ready to introduce 6DOF movement for an entirely new way to fly.

Plus they are changing how guns are aimed, we're getting old school lead indicators.

I like the idea on the change up on the weapons PIP, it makes it more fun and skillful I think for dogfights. I also love to see they are adding more control over the convergence system, as long as they have a decent "default" setting I think letting people get more advanced into tweaking them is a good thing.

I know in the future that weapons will have easy firing solutions and it will basically just be a target and destroy with auto track and fire. Technology obviously makes things easier, however I think doing that in this game will take away from that "WW2" battle concept they said they were going for.

We’ll also have plenty of cool content on the website, including the M50 brochure and commercial, an updated Arena Commander manual and a post from design talking about the ship stat change process.

Looks like the M50 commercial will be up tomorrow!

As it turns out v.9 is not live, CIG released a small prep 8MB patch earlier that screwed up something and then forced the patcher to redownload all of 12.6 again. Ben post a nice "oops" post.

https://forums.robertsspaceindustries.com/discussion/175765/alert-arena-commander-down-fix-inbound

Hey guys! The phrase 'oops, we broke Arena Commander' is thrown around all too often these days...

Tonight's small patch seems to have unintentionally blocked a lot of users from playing AC. Our engineers are in the office and chasing a fix as we speak, and we're hoping to have everyone flying again in about an hour.

And then check back tomorrow morning (US Pacific time) for the REAL patch!

Ben

Edit: so err...ya, it wasn't 12.6 I downloaded, but the RC for 13, Revel & York Hangar, epic.

I really hope that next stretchgoal happens. It would be pretty big thing when it comes to creating immersion.

Got my CitizenCon ticket, was suppose to log into my friends account and get his too, but I couldn't log into his. Oh well, 2 more chances.

Patch is live too

Also seems as though both the M50 and 350R will be permanently added to the pledge store but it doesn't seem live yet.

Arena Commander V0.9 is here, and it is a big one! You can now update your copy of Star Citizen via the launcher client. Today’s patch is the most significant iteration of Arena Commander yet, featuring new game modes, game balancing and bug fixes! What can you expect to find?

There's far too much to copy pasta so go read. Patch is 14GB btw

M50 and 350R are live in the pledge store now.

M50 - $100
350R - $125

Plus Racing packages and Cross-Chassis Upgrades

Cross chassis upgrades are not too bad. I would grab an M50 if I didn't already have a 350R but IMO having a jump drive makes it far more valuable as a scout ship for the fleet. Oh and the M50 and 350R are permanent additions to the store.

M50 -> Hornet $20
M50 -> 350R $25
325a -> M50 $30
315p -> M50 $35
300i -> M50 $45
Aurora Ln -> $65
Aurora Lx -> $70
Aurora MR -> $75

M50 commercial is out, since IGN leaked it out early:https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_SpsjUHj_II

That commercial brought a small tear to my eye. On top of being amazing, if you are a big Top Gear fan like I am where I watched every episode since Tiff days, you can't help but smile at every moment of that commercial, get chills down your spine as the Jeremy Clarkson mock gets thrown around in cocpit while racing against the mock Stig in the 350R .

Glad I got the 350r back in November, since it was cheaper. Also, it looks like the 350r no longer will take any kind of cargo :(
