Watch Dogs

what happened to the new consoles sharing PC architecture and DX11 making next-gen games look close to PC quality?...do we have to wait a year or 2?

It's absurd. I don't think there's any excuses for it myself. To my knowledge the new consoles and especially the PS4 have the horsepower to be able to do 1080p60 on these games or close to it. There's no more proprietary hardware anywhere.

I am so glad I have a PC. I can just bypass that sort of nonsense and save the PS4 for the strays I can't get on the PC.

Watch Dogs doesn't like it'll be anything close to revolutionary...maybe an 8/10 max

8/10 for sure barring something ridiculous. Potential to go past that *if* certain things that have been billed come to pass.

not to mention that almost every game on the Xbone is less then 1080p...makes no sense

8/10 will be fine...people expect every game to be a 10/10 these days or they are disappointed...if the gameplay is fun and the graphics less then amazing then it'll be good enough for me...Titanfall gets a lot of grief on here but I honestly thought the beta was a lot of fun...CoD clone with mechs but people lose sight of what makes a game fun these days and are so concerned with Crysis level graphics

Nothing happened, because it was PR bullshit to begin with.

This is from the dualshockers site. It should be noted that these are from the PS4 beta, and Ubisoft stated in their NDA that the assets used in the beta are "downgraded" and not final assets.

If there's a noticeable difference with the retail release apart from a couple of improved textures here and there I will buy you a cookie ;)

Eh, it was really a result of the console makers choosing the APU route rather than have discreet GPUs. Back when the 360 and PS3 came out, they were using GPUs that were equivalent to some of the high end PC GPUs of the time.

Seriously though, even I assumed that 1080p gaming would be the standard for PS4 and Xbone. It's not even hard to drive 1080p with decent frames, but I suppose game devs are choosing to use fancier textures and whatnot at the expense of resolution.

What in the fuck is Ubisoft doing with this release?
This shit is way too much, too fucking much, this needs to stop.

ROFL. People are so gullible.

Edit:
You know there are going to be people who buy both the Vigilante and Dedsec Editions, along with a Season Pass - so they can say they have everything. The direction gaming is going is hilarious.

Which one do I buy!?

if you aren't sure then the 'standard' version is the right choice...all the bonus missions etc are usually just rinse and repeat filler material and nothing substantial to the story...the Deus Ex: Human Revolution GameStop pre-order had a cool Tracer Tong exclusive mission for nostalgia buffs (yes I bought it from GameStop for this very reason) but most times sticking with the 'regular' version is the best choice

Watch Dogs already looks to be a lot of padding with very little original missions...I can see myself getting bored after awhile...we'll see...I still haven't decided on it...if I can snag an Nvidia code for under $30 I'll give it a go

What the fuck are you basing that on?

EDITOR UPDATE:

The game has gone to retail stores long before it was proclaimed “gold,” perhaps as an attempt to make it seem like they were working super hard until the very last week. Ubisoft wrote a cute little tweet about “hackers” infiltrating their system. To clarify: the game is about hacking. Not us actually hacking them (come on, did you really believe that?). In essence, they are saying don’t just listen to 1 review – the ‘valid’ reviews start on the 27th (by the people). Though this does not make our review any less valid, Ubisoft.

A lot of people are angry and believe we are playing some magical game, or did insane CG effects, or even played a multiplayer beta where this type of gameplay was not even allowed. They keep asking for the box and denying the footage we have as if it was artificially created yet not saying how, stating the game “just went gold”, “it’s not in retail stores”, “I work for a small reviews site myself and know it’s not out”, etc etc. And yet someone posted their PS4 retail copy today with the box and footage as well making everyone seem like little kids with broken preorder dreams. Ironically, most of these people are fans of the game (go figure). Interesting to hear what all these nay-sayers will say now. But denial is a strong poison. To quell any clear thirsts as all these comments indicate – here is a picture from a story mission on the Xbox One. It is the exact same mission from E3 2012 (before you start the mission). Enjoy folks.

Oh and if you all did not already hear, E3 2012 was run on a PC with 2 680′s in SLI. The game is now running Ultra on GeForce GTX 670s. Downgrade anyone?

There's no doubt its going to be a fun game. It won't be game of the year, it won't be god's gift to gaming as it was presented E3 2012, but it will be fun. And if it lets us do things like walk into any random building we want to without it being off limits like in GTA IV/V, I'll consider it a big step up.

Lets just wait for the reviews to hit and then make your judgments...

This may be the stupidest thing I've ever read in my life.
Wow.

Honestly, I didn't think GTA V was anything special (played it on PS3). Is it worth picking it up for $30 or so and playing through once? Sure. You could even try the MP if you really wanted, but personally I didn't think the MP was that great. The SP was on par with what you would expect from GTA, though.

I think the only way I would buy it if it came out on PC was in the bargain bin for $10 or less.

Agreed. All the hype for that game was in no way matched by the gameplay. I finished the game and never bothered going back to play side missions. I have to say that the mission where you chase the plane you shot down is nicely done.

Me either. If Ultra required dual 680s to play smoothly and now requires a single 670 I can see his point - but there is essentially no difference if he's referring to 670 in SLI.

I have a feeling he means that Ultra can now be run on a single 670, but the way it's written it does seem like he could mean SLI 670s. If it's the latter, then the dude obviously has no clue what he's talking about. If it's the former, a good chunk of that could be chalked up to optimization, but it also means they definitely toned it down a bit.

Nothing. The whining and hate are off the charts around here.

+1

To be fair all that version stuff is pretty obnoxious, but we see that with almost all the major releases nowadays (unfortunately). Hopefully the game itself is enjoyable though, I always welcome fun new games :)

Assuming the reviews aren't horrid, I'm just going to get the most basic version.
I can count the games I've wanted more of (after winning the main game) on one hand. Unless the main game is really short, I doubt I'll care.

I'm wondering when the review embargo lifts...hopefully it'll be a day before the game is officially released

Is this primarily a console game?

Should one expect to play this using a controller like GTA?

Or will mouse and keyboard be just as good?

still waiting for someone in the 'For Sale' forums to sell the Nvidia bundle code for under $30...once it hits that point I'll bite...unless it gets terrible reviews...till then I'll continue playing the GOTY- Dark Souls 2

Got a promo code today for 25% off pre-order price. I went for it, it looks to have some potential and there is a severe lack of new major titles coming out between now and the Q4 / holiday season.

good point...everything I was anticipating got pushed back to 2015 (Witcher 3, The Division, Dying Light)...might get Watch Dogs just to play something new

I had a friend who participated in the Alpha for the Xbox One , he gave a pretty glowing impression of the game.

He broke it down as the following "GTA without the focus on the outrageous and absurd. Much more serious tone , serious story line and skill focus. Hacking is fun and multiplayer is a blast".

So I'll likely be grabbing it day one for PS4 since I've nothing but issues with Ubisoft PC games over the years.

Also I think this goes without saying but do not reviews. Check the forums , rent and make up your own mind.

So it would be closer to say Mafia/Mafia 2 than GTA and Saint's Row (and I guess Just Cause)?

Exactly, the only game I am excited for that is still coming out this year is Dragon Age: Inquisition. There are a few other titles that I will most likely play when they come out but I don't know how long they will hold my interest. I most likely will just be playing older multi-player titles until 2015.
