Thanks for posting this.

I am a bit confused how many Galant Legs did you buy? Does the Table Top Frame come with them?

It looks like he used 4 legs. You have to buy parts of the desk separately. Tops, frames and legs. I like this, as it allows you to customize it to your space.

I'm looking to upgrade my POS desk with one of the Galants and I'm wondering if anyone has mounted a UPS to the bottom? I have an APC Back-UPS. Be nice to clear everything but speakers, mouse & keyboard from the top. Too bad my p280 won't fit in the computer holder.

How heavy is your UPS? I have a 1500W unit that weighs way too much to put *ON* the desk, let alone sling it underneath. Why not put it on the floor?

So...I ordered

And 6 A-Legs based on what they told us at the store.

Turns out no way to really conenct the table top to the corner desk? There is a frame but they did not give us any parts to connect the two?

So I guess I now have 2 separate desks LOL

The tabletop comes with a frame, and that frame will connect to the corner unit. I think you're going to have extra legs. That corner unit comes with 4, and the extra top you bought is only 47", so you certainly don't need six more. Or were you saying that you bought 6 legs including the 4 from the corner unit?

When you get it, you'll understand. The Galant assembly book is about 100 pages and includes every possible combination. If you look at mine on the previous page... we have two corner units, a 47" unit, a 30" unit, and rounds for each side (one is off in the picture). The frames are modular, and each top that you buy comes with a frame. It'll all connect into one nice solid unit when you're done.

Our corner unit came with 5 A-Leg, The table frame came with no legs, but IKEA told us to buy 2 more A legs.

So we have total of 7 A legs, made a mistake. We used 5 on the corner unit.

The frame that came with the 47 inch table how do I attach it to the corner desk? There is a frame, but how do I connect that frame to the corner frame?

It is just a long frame, and looks like in manual there might be some sort of T piece that connects the tables togher?

There should be a short set of rails that joins the two together. You'd slot it into the corner frame depending on which side you're adding it to. This drawing may be backwards, I think you'd be adding it to the thicker side, but start at page 20 for a reference. You should have two standalone pieces (top of page 21). Slide those into the corner frame and screw in as indicated, then slide your extension frame onto them and bolt in.

If you don't have those pieces, then you are either missing pieces, or you bought the wrong frame for the rectangular top. Every time I've gotten them, they've been wrapped in cardboard and taped to the cardboard inside the larger frame piece (no way they'd fall out).

We must have gotten wrong frame

This is the part Ikea told us to get:

1x Galant Frame 200.568.83
1x Galant Table top 701.052.54

This is what the frame looks like

That looks like the right frame... looks like you're just missing the little metal rails (top of page 12 in that PDF), along with the screws (111034) that bolt those rails in, and the plastic "t" pieces that bolt the table tops together. Looks like they don't come with that frame, but that is the same frame that I have. Ikea rep should have known you'd need the rails to attach them. You basically need 3/4 of the 900-568-89 kit.

Yes that what I am missing, the screws, rails and T pieces.

I tried googling that Kit 900-568-89

What do you think my best chances of getting that kit? Should I contact them online? When going to the store they are not super helpful or seem to care much.

So that kit isn't really part of what you bought, that's the frame for the half round that goes on the end, I just used it to illustrate that has the parts in it you need. You could always just buy that, that'll have the parts you need.

The last time I had an issue (closest Ikea was 3 hours away, and my filing cabinet was missing one of the side panels), I just called the 1-800 number and they shipped a replacement side out to me. I'd call the 1-800 number probably, not the store. Make sure you say that you talked to someone on the floor and were lead to believe the desks would connect, but when you got home, none of the pieces to connect them were included.

Man, glad I stumbled across this thread. Gonna have to get a setup like this eventually. I don't care if I have to pay an arm and a leg for shipping, I've never been satisfied with my desk... but the Galant looks to be the answer to my prayers.

The shipping is outrageous, 120% on my order which I refuse to pay that much for fake wood.

If you have the time you can easily copy the design and build your own, even use ikea legs which I plan to do for my own desk. go to your local lumberyard, if you have a car than it's better to get them in small pieces and than just piece it together with wood glue and wood filler.

My order was around $400, shipping was around $963! And that's shipping to South Dakota! Twin Cities , MN was the same on shipping.

The problem with ordering Ikea and having it shipped is that over a certain weight, it comes by an independent trucking company. When I first moved down to North Carolina, and had no furniture, I furnished most of my apartment (couch, bed, entertainment center, spare bedroom, office, etc.) and shipping was something like $450. When I looked at the shipping manifest, it was 82 boxes, totaling over 3,000 lbs. I will say, that I was rather impressed with the shipping, the two guys even carried it all up three flights of stairs to my apartment on a 100° day with zero complaints even though the person that quoted it totally didn't bother to ask and they didn't know it was 3rd floor until they got here.

Our closest store is Charlotte, and is about 3 hours away. In the past I've even just rented a minivan for a day and driven it; cheaper than the shipping. With my status at National, I can get a brand new minivan for like $100... pick it up in the morning, return it by like 10pm. :D

ikea really wants you to just travel to their store to buy your stuff. this is clearly indicated in their shipping prices. i think one way they are able to keep their prices low is to charge actual shipping rates rather than absorb some of the shipping costs (e.g. amazon prime) and let it balance out due to volume of orders. one time i drove from nashville to atlanta to get my galant system. round-trip gas and food was cheaper than paying for shipping!:)

Here is my new desk from Ikea. Spent over three hours putting it together. Taken with my iPad.

Question to Ikea Galant owners.

I Was thinking about picking up a Galant Desk with dimensions 63 by 31 inches. Now the space I want to put the desk in has a length of 62 inches and width of 30 inches.

My question is would it be possible to cut the desk to fit into this space? My only real concern is if the steel frame is 63 inches in length as well. Much easier to cut through wood than steel.

The steel frame is 63" in length but it's in the middle of the piece of wood. If you notch both sides of the desk by 1/2" it may fit. Would need a picture of the space to be sure.
I had to cut about 1/2' off of my extensions so I could fit my desk between my bookshelves.

I've been using the same desk for seriously 15 years, and i'm 26... insane. I got the impulsive itch to finally get a new desk and I chose to give the Galant a try. This has seriously improved my gaming experience. It feels GREAT and amazingly comfortable. I'm a tall guy so I was able to adjust it comfortably high. It was easy to build, took approximately 1 hour. And it just feels great. Here's a pic. For reference, that's a 30% monitor so the depth of the corner peice is awesome!

Hi guys, I saw this thread and was inspired to get the galant for myself within these past few days. I managed to pick up a used galant left corner desk with T-legs as shown below.

galant-corner-desk-left__76866_PE197637_S4.jpg

It's pretty big but I would like to extend it even more. I see someone has this for sale http://www.ikea.com/us/en/catalog/products/S89806740/#/S29836976 It's 47-inches long

galant-desk__64879_PE175200_S4.jpg

I was wondering what all I would need to connect this to the left side of my desk (the short end). The guy only has it in A-legs, so I'm guessing I would need to buy an additional T-leg? And what about the frame, will it connect with what I already have or do I need to purchase some additional parts?

Would appreciate any help, thanks!

So...for all of us...where did you get those pictures?

The Batman posters are from a artist on Etsy.

The Star Wars posters are from here. http://mixedtees.com/star-wars-all-posters

A couple warnings about the Star Wars posters... They are normally printed in a larger size, 24x36(mine are 12x18). Also, these are copies of a limited edition poster that was released in 2010 (FYI, in case anyone has an issue with that).

There are parts that you need to connect the two. They would have come with that peice. So make sure the guy is including those peices. If not, then I think you're SOL because you have to buy the desk portion to get the peices which is like two thick plastic tab things, two sturdy metal bars that interconnect the two peices and 4 screws. (this is off the top of my head there may be more.)

Hey guys I have been using the following Ikea TORSBY 6-person kitchen table as my desk they have two colors Chrome with BLACK top or Chrome with GLASS top (Glass top is thin I would not put to much weight on it)
I have 2 x Ikea TORSBY 6-person in BLACK one for a desk the other as my work bench table modding etc.. For $219.99 bucks not bad at all and very easy to put together about 30 mins. ;)

I picked up the same desk a few months ago and I agree with everything that you have said!

I totally missed this thread, but I want to contribute my IKEA desk. It's actually an IKEA counter top with galvanized steel 1 inch pipe and fittings for the legs. What's great is that I'm 6'4" and for the first time I have a desk that's the appropriate height for me. (I can actually use a keyboard tray and it doesn't hit my knees!) :) That's a 30 inch and a 24 inch monitor side by side. It's a big desk - but plenty of room to spread out and work, play, charge a laptop on the side, etc. I use the Expedit series bookshelves with the little half height drawers for desk storage stuff. I'm really happy with this even though it requires a little elbow grease.
