Final Fantasy XIV Official Release Thread

It has not yet been announced, though an educated guess using the timelines of the past phases would be sometime near the end of July.

I think the most recent schedule said the open beta would only last 2 weeks so my guess would be end of July.

I think my phone ate my last post, so I'll try again.

After playing a lot of crafting last weekend I'm sold. It's slow and grindy, but it has more depth and reward than what I expected. Mining and gold smithing was slow but rewarding, it will be great to unlock more abilities to push for HQ items.

I'm gonna abandon my old ways of MMO to play this (end game raiding) and take this one slow. I plan on making a THM to 20 to start and get a chocobo, then level up all the trade skills slowly over time. This won't be a weekend endeavor, I'm just gonna play this on and off between other games.

Luckily I'm in a good financial state that I'm not pressured to get the best bang for my buck with a MMO. The starting price and subscription is relatively trivial for me, so I'll enjoy it as leisurely as every other game I'm playing.

I'm already experiencing a little beta burn.

seriously proceed with caution! i have logged on for a total of 15 minutes in the two weekends they had.

i will not ruin this game with the beta!

Yup. Although, I will admit to not bothering to read the quest dialog, so I do have something to look forward to. I've had probably four characters to 10+ since Beta 2.

I like your way of thinking. If anything, finding people to play with and burning through content is important, but not as important i feel as finding your own niche and playing games at your own pace.

And just a heads up: I rolled THM during phase 3 of the beta and got to a point in the main storyline (before level 20), that required me to have a level 19 or above of any disciple of the hand class (besides culinarian) to proceed further. Might want to try crafting a bit along side leveling THM else i'm not 100% certain if you can access chocobo without having done so.

Cheers

I'm in the same boat, I didn't read any of the main quest in anticipation of the voice overs that should be there in the final release. Since I never played 1.0 in any capacity I've been using the time in beta to figure out the basics to the game so I don't feel so lost as I usually do the first while when I pick up a new mmo.

I've played every hour I could since being invited to beta (beginning of phase 3) and I'm far from burnt, but I feel I have a good understanding of how things work for when it goes live.

Also, has anyone set up a link shell? Or are they working yet in the beta? These are different than "guilds" are they not? Basically like a chat room that people no matter what "guild" they are in, can join to hang out with others?

Yeah, they are pretty much chatroom guilds, you can be in many, but have to activate it to talk and read, if i remember right.

You can customize which LS (linkshell) is displayed in chat settings, be it one or all (up to 8 max), as well as customize the color they are displayed in.

But, yeah, LSs are more like social groups you can subscribe to where FCs (free company) are more like traditional Guilds (with membership bonuses) where you can only affiliate with one at a time.

I wouldn't say you're running it for the early levels. You're getting a feel for it. I was a little lost till I got some help from the community that was in the same situation. But I not going to go past 20 on my main guy. Going go try another race/class to do something different next beta weekend.

Well I never recieved my invite for Beta Phase 3 and I am one of the original owners of the Collectors edition for 1.0. When I go to my account it shows as a registered account and I even did the transfer of my character to the Excalibur server this past Friday. I thought they were to invite all registered accounts for Phase 3. I e-mail them and waiting to see what they say at this point.

Anyone know if I do an early purchase if we get early access? Seems to be the trend these days just want to know if it is the case for this game as well.

if this is anything like the old Final Fantasy. Where linkshells would fight over NM's. Definitely count me out. I had my fair share of drama in regards to this. The only instances that i recall were campaign related.

^ don't think it will, NM are fates and summons I think now.

Will try crafting this weekend to get a general idea, after that I'm skipping and waiting until open beta, already reported my share of bugs and performance issues.

Schedule has been updated.

Dates and Times
June 28, 2013 (Friday), 2:00 a.m. to June 30 (Sunday), 2:00 a.m. (PDT)
June 28, 2013 (Friday), 9:00 a.m. to June 30 (Sunday), 9:00 a.m. (GMT)

Still on weekends, wonder what they will fix/add for this one.

Hopefully they fix the animation lock on abilities, it's very annoying to have to wait for an ability's animation to finish in order to use a stun before an enemy's devastating charged move activates...

Hey guys need some advice in profession skills.

I am going to do Alchemy (potions) and some cooking for my skills. But I don't know who or where to start. I tried looking for the trainer. But all I had was a food vendor and a potions vendor but never a trainer. Do I have to go to another city for this or did I miss something in the beginning. Thanks :)

Each city has specific guilds (professions) you can join just like specific classes start in certain city's. I have a feeling that the culinary profession is in LL but I'm not 100% sure.

If they were satisfied with Test 2 of phase 3, Test 3 of phase 3 should introduce the duty finder system.

Test 4:

Although testing of the duty finder was scheduled for Test 3, final QA checks of the system are still in progress. Stress testing of the duty finder will be conducted during Test 4 at the earliest.

Seems like the first set back of Phase 3 so far. I would rather they take the time to properly QA the duty finder. We don't want them rolling out a broken system that people will hate.

I'm still looking forward to the weekend, even without the gimped pickup groups from duty finder :D

It's a group finder for dungeons, but its cross server. So you probably won't be playing with people from your server.

When will characters stop being deleted? I.e., what's the earliest date when I could make a "real" character?

Open beta characters should roll over to the final release though I read that if there is a need to delete open beta characters, they will.

I'm also glad that they are holding off releasing the duty finder until they are happy with it. Having it be cross server sounds interesting too, I hadn't read about that.

Update for my situation... so I never did receive a reply from Square Enix regarding my support ticket from a few days ago so I decided to just call them. Long story short I explained my account status and they hooked me up with a beta key. Excited to play tomorrow .

I'm going to hold off on playing until either some big changes are implemented, or the game releases. I haven't found any bugs, other then the "moveable skip" button, and I'm sure that'll be fixed long before release. I don't want to burn out, or spoil the story.

i think i may sit this weekend out, or just try my hand at crafting. level 18 was enough for me to realize that my newly acquired wife may attempt to divorce me when game is released due to neglecting her. or maybe ill finally hit 2200 in WoW 3's... ive been sitting at 2100 for too long

What good is early access then? Or is it early access to phase 4?

I'm thinking we'll see open beta, phase 4, wiped.

Phase 4 IS open beta, and the current plan from SE is to have no wiping at all from that point on. There will be a period of time between the end of phase 4 and the early access launch, probably to the tune of 2-3 weeks.

Early access is likely to be only a couple of days before the official launch. With the official launch being 8/27, my guess is that early access will start on 8/22 or 8/23.

The point of early access and early beta accounts not being wiped is that it unclutters the newbie zones. In a game that is designed to have 100 people in 100 zones, having 10,000 people in 1 zone at launch will always causes issues either with game mechanics (enough monsters) or server problems. Yes, I pulled those numbers from my ass, but you understand the point.
