Diablo 3 Discussion Thread

Anyways...this is getting back into the discussions that have already been made..I wanted to know what specifically makes the *game* enjoyable (and I also asked if the RMAH was profitable, no one has answered that yet). Yes i'm nitpicking, because I don't take "it just is" as an answer. Sorry /shrug.

How would you feel if someone kept going into the PoE and asking how they can enjoy the game when the combat is so slow and awful, refusing to acknowledge any answers, AND then topping it off with a very condescending post that might as well read "oh well plebs will enjoy any game I guess lol"?

The PoE fanboys talking about drop rates? I'd love to know how many 6L's, Kaoms, and belts/rings (20+ tri-res, 20+ weapon elemental, 90+ HP) they've found. Probably none.

I found one 6L and one perfect belt in PoE. The drop rates were as abysmal as D3. Almost every rare that dropped was complete and utter garbage. I guess you think all those items you sold for a few GCP or even an exalt count as good items. They don't. The good items are 15-20+ exalts in PoE.

Hey man, settle. I think i was the only one to mention drop rates, and if you've paid attention to my posts in the PoE thread, you'd know that i'd never give it a pass.

Both games have utterly fucking retarded ass low drop rates and it pisses me off.

That is all.

Aside from TL2 what game of this genre has high drop rates? I sure as fuck know D2's drop rates weren't good. What is the point of a treasure hunt if the treasure found is not rare.

There are only about two dozen items in PoE worth 15-20+ exalt. Odd comparison. Drop rates for that kind of stuff are definitely very low, though.

Titan Quest. Granted its closed nature where they weren't trying to factor in the amount of people farming in a single economy, allowed them to not jew people on drop rates. I was always finding new and spiffy gear.

I never play in public groups, and trading (or AHing) is a pain in the ass. I would rather just find my own gear and trade with my friends. I'd love for GGG and Blizz to add self-found leagues with significantly buffed drop rates.

edit:

The whole reason i brought up drop rates though, is because in D3 gear is a much larger part of your spec. Since there are no talents, and gems are rather stale, different stats on gear is about all you can do in any attempt to make synergies with your skills.

That means it'd be nice for any given character to have multiple sets of gear for different builds. So have more gear drop. I shouldn't have to farm for 2 weeks for a piece of gear (and this complaint is directed toward PoE too)... these aren't MMO's ffs.

A dozen items? lol

Really, 15 exalts isn't that much. It wasn't even that much when I was playing months ago. I know people have accumulated much more currency since then even if it is consumable. But then again, maybe something happened and the value of orbs went way up. I doubt it.

1. I would tell them to get more attack/cast/run speed and then it would be plenty fast.
2. About it being "awful" i would agree for lvl 1-50ish due to not having above.
3. I did acknowledge the answers given, which were pretty much exactly as described. Just to be super technical, here are quotes from Every. Single. Response. to my first post asking "how is this game enjoyable?"

jh24 - "It's easy to get into" "monster density changes" "fun" stevedave - entire first response had no description of what made it fun, and made little sense "You are trying to compare a game in beta with a 1/100th of the player's release strategies with a game in production with millions of active players." WHAT? Breath_Dying- " Because we enjoy playing it." stevedave#2 - "Too me the best thing diablo 3 did for me was give me a game I didn't want." " It plays and feels very different than D2 and D2 clones." AceCr - "Because D3 "feels" great to play. " BigAug - "I fucking love the AH" Aix - "why play D3 again? I like playing arpg's more than any other type of game"
That's it, those are the only direct comments made about D3 in the entirety of posts between my first and followup post saying "its kind of funny every mentions poe when i ask about what d3's draw is". So yeah, I STILL wonder what the draw is.

And as far as condescending goes, yes, i am going to be condescending of someone telling me that "The RMAH isn't about making money".

As far as drop rates go in PoE, i have a high playtime and almost exclusively play with stacked IIR/IIQ these days, so they have been pretty decent. Chanced a 82% Andvarious, had a low-roll Lionseye's drop last week, Have had several 1-4 EX value weapons drop, Alch/Chaos'd several 1-4 EX Ammy's, have had hundreds of lowbie uniques drop (some useful, some not), have had dozens of mid-grade uniques drop (I've sold a rathpith to both choco and lenin I believe). So i guess I can't be a fair comparison.
I can most definitely notice when i don't have my MF gear on in PoE, whereas in my time with D3 (which was pre-MP levels) the difference between zero and 200 mf felt like nothing. Absolutely nothing.

The combat/movement is horrible. That was my biggest complaint from day one and I still felt that way when I was decked out at lvl 83.

.

I was responding to your post. It made perfect sense.

I read the comments on here daily, trying to figure out what the draw of the game is for those remaining...and I just don't "get" it. How are the absolutely miniscule amount of additions/tweaks to the game enough to make it playable/enjoyable to you folk?

I don't want to make this a "i love poe" post, but when playing D3, and looking at the amount of sheer content/tweaks that are made to poe on a weekly basis, don't you wonder "hey, why doesn't blizz do that, or work that quickly" or "hey, maybe all of these promises that devs have been talking about for more than a year are bullshit?" Does no one think that? Similar thoughts ran past my head about 2 months into D3's release, when I wondered "hey, why would they have whole skills that don't even work" "hey, why did they just nerf a stat so quickly, when they claimed they tested this game"...and shortly left.

Do you still not understand that you can't compare the releases and patches of D3 to POE? Its a pretty simple concept.

And if you bothered to read this far, is the RMAH still a means of making money, or has it been flooded/taken over by bots/farmers?

RMAH was never a means of making money. Sure a few people sold items and made a few dollars...but that doesn't make is a 'means of making money'. That's like saying my means of making money is donating sperm....talk about repetitive game play.

The point of RMAH was to allow people to sell good items they didn't need for something other than in game gold. Also to allow people who didn't have time to farm or had a lot of income to spend less time farming and more time playing. It was mostly about the 15% that blizzard takes in.

I would say the gold AH had an exponentially bigger impact on the game than the RMAH. With the AH lowering the transaction barrier so much, drop rates had to be nerfed way too much for the common player to really get much; at the same time, at the click of a button you can see a huge amount of amazing gear that it feels like you're never getting.

Yes, about two dozen items are worth that much. 6L Shav's, 6L Lioneye, Koams is about 25-28, a few super rolled rares. Keep in mind the HC and SC economies are sometimes very different. Also, the value of exalts has gone up (rather, the value of most other currency has gone down). Even perfect roll mirror service is going for 3-5 exalt, depending on the item quality.

Is the blacksmith any good if I'm going to be starting MP1 soon?

Depends on your gear.

In you are sitting on just normal gear then yes the black smith is amazing. You can get top of the line gloves, bracers, armor, shoulders from the black smith.

Also a solid amulet from the can be made from jewel dude...its more expensive and I have had less luck with the amulets.

I sure am tired of trying to farm for this infernal machine plan. Does anyone else have trouble getting 5 stacks of NV quickly in act 4? i have a hell of a time doing it because all the elites and champs are so far apart.

One of the craziest moments of Diablo 3 for me happened getting the plan in HC when it first came out. We put it up to MP4 to give ourselves a better shot and it was intense as fuck. We ended up with 3-4 packs of elites and I was pinned in a corner. Thank god I was a fuckin boss. Everyone else almost died. Man the elite Mallet Lords had just come out then too. Fucking so intense. We had to make one guy leave the game for his own good and because he was making it harder for us. He was just running around in cirlces (occasionally hitting a mob) because he was so scared.

Everyone was yelling at everyone on Vent lol

Sure enough, just as i type this. He drops it the next time

Who the hell has been buying all the tomb of secrets in hardcore?!?!?

I have to give you a piece of my mind....

Thanks :) keep up the good work

I'll be around this weekend on HC with safe but steady farming. If anyone wants some help up to inferno, Never can help speed clear through hell.

That would be me. Tomb of Secrets is my weekness. I can keep up with tears, essence, and gold...but not Secrets. Bought probably 200 today...man they are pricy. Just ok crafting so far nothing to be chipper about. Feeling pretty strong with my build...Have everything invested in it so i better not lose it.

How do you afford that much? Isn't the craft also like 100k per?

The amulets are 100K + Brimstone + perfect square gem +Demonic Essence...so yeah, they seem uber expensive to me, especially since you can't simply find perfect square gems (unless something has changed?).

The rest of the newer crafting recipes are 50K (gauntlets, bracers) to 75K (spaulders) to 150K (armor), but at least they only require regular crafting materials and no Brimstones or gems.

I have sould a couple high dollar items. One of them being that low level spear with movment speed and dex for 6 million. The most recent Nat's bloody boots. Low stats but still got 25mil for it.

I also sell pretty much anything remotely good on the AH for like 20k.

Also all though I bought 200 secrets that only equates to like 20 crafts. Something like 4 million spent on crafting so far.

My gold stock pile is still 10 mil+ I'm going to use it all on crafting. Still need some shoulders with Dex, Vit, and allres.....those are 10 secrets a piece to craft. At the moment only demonic essence is holding me back.

I have only crafted 2 amulets due to the gem and brimstone. But I got a good enough amulet too hold me over.

Here is my TacoBell hardcore monk....look at how good my crafts are....keep in mind I have only done around 30. The Gloves I got 2nd try, Bracers 5th try, Amulet 2nd try, Shoulders like 10th...and I'm still looking for new shoulders.

Rings were about 100k each...people under price just crit rings with 4.5 instead of 5 to 6.
Boots 2 mil ish.
Pants 3 mil ish
Belt and Helmet found.
...There is no cheap way around a skorn with life steal regardless of how low the DPS is pretty sure I got it for 30 million which I mostly got from the Nat's boots I found.

I refuse to die this time around near death will be equipped 100% of the time. I ran some unplug computer + Router unplug drills and I can do that within 3 seconds so hopefully I won't lose another to game disconnect lag.

Hardcore is where it's at. I used to do 3 months on/3 months off with softcore, but hardcore really keeps things interesting. I love that some gear that would be considered average or crap in softcore has value in hardcore

Yea this is probably the coolest part. That and death makes you start a new character.

Do you all start leveling on MP10? At what point do you tone down the MP level for fear of death?

Actually I find it best to do MP 0 the entire time and just blast through it as fast as possible. The farther you get in the game the more exp you get you get from monsters.

Here is a cool little site that explains it a bit.
http://diablo3blog.blogspot.com/2012/05/diablo-3-experience-points-explained.html

When amp up the monster Power you end up being a higher level than the monsters you are fighting. Same level = 100% once your 1 level higher then the monsters you are fighting you then get 90%. Also if you are 3 levels behind the monster you get 125%.

I guess its a good time to pick u p D3 and start playing again than?

Depends on why you quit playing in the first place. Nothing major has changed. If you quit playing because you don't like the core mechanics, gameplay, and over all feel of D3 then it will likely never be a good time to get into it.

Have you played dark souls? Its always a better choice than D3.

Hmm. Good info, but not for me.

I couldn't stand how easy the game was, it didn't even feel like i was playing. I like feeling a challenge from lvl 1, rather than just high-tailing it to 60 so i guess i'll find out the hard way lol

That is the exact reason I blast through it the easy parts. Its harder than you'd think because you are on such a low level in comparison the the monsters. Then for a monk once you hit level 20 its on. You can just Tempest rush to Hell. The end of nightmare and all of hell is probably the most difficult.

So I started playing D3 again yesterday. Wow, I can't believe how much easier inferno is. Previously I couldn't get past Act 1 with my barbarian but yesterday after spending 500k or so in the auction house I was able to plow all the way through Act 4 without dying.

I've been away from D3 for quite a while. What stats make for valuable gear? Is resist all still mandatory for armor to be worth selling? For a long time attack speed was the big thing, then crit chance, is it still crit chance?

Also, I can't believe that you guys play hardcore. I tried it once. I got to around level 40 before the server lagged and when it caught up I was dead. Even yesterday when I was playing my lvl 60 wizard the game semi-crashed (screen went black for a few seconds) and when it came back I was dead. That's why I would never play HC. It just seems way too easy to get killed randomly.

Damn, I was happy making 600-700k/hr. Either you're really lucky or I need to up my farming methods.

In SoftCore there seem to levels on the auction house.

Level 1 Good gear you can sell for 100k
Level 2 Great gear you can sell for 1 million
Level 3 Sub God gear you can sell for 100 million +
Level 4 God gear you can sell for 2 billion

For Instance if you look at my monk I have just below god gear.
http://us.battle.net/d3/en/profile/dirkdirden-1579/hero/10075786

Vile ward is probably 300+ million
Inna's helmet is probably 500+ million
Inna's armor is probably 200 + million ( my next upgrade )
Witching hour like 200+ million
Nat's ring probably a billion
Inna's pants 300 + million
Skorn 300 + million
nat's boots 300 + million

If you take any piece of my gear and pump up their values just a little bit it will jump from 300 million to 2 billion....at yet you'll only have a tiny gain for that extra billion.

Damn, I was happy making 600-700k/hr. Either you're really lucky or I need to up my farming methods.

Lucky and auction housing. It only takes 1 high dollar item to change things around...I don't even think I can farm 600k per hour.

I had quit playing about a month after the game came out, was still riddled with problems. I gave it alot of chances because I LOVE the mechanics and gameplay, but was just overwhelmed with the bugs and issues.

My blacksmith is maxed out at 10, though. Does the cap raise in MP1-10?

And inferno is pretty easy for me right now.
