Nah not really into benchmarks. I figured it would be fine with excel no matter what as its not that crazy CPU intesive anyways. My big worry was on the touch interface with how easy it would be adjust scripting or individual cell rules.

Manipulating a spreadsheet via touch in Excel 2013 is a decent experience, takes a little practice to figure out the behavior, for instance if you want to resize a cell you first tap on a cell boarder that activates a resizing arrow and then do the resize, rather than grab the cell boarder directly and then moving it like it would work with a mouse.

Manipulating scripting on the other hand doesn't offer any touch optimizations, it's the same desktop UI that's always been there. It's possible to do it but definitely not a touch UI. A device with a digital pen can help out a lot with working with a desktop UI in these kinds of situations. It's not going to replace a keyboard and mouse for speed but it's definitely possible to do quick stuff debugging code and make small edits and changes.

That sounds more then fine honestly.

Nope, cant' pin "Control Panel\All Control Panel Items\Sound" and I change my default sound device quite often each day.

If this is on Desktop/with a mouse, just right click the Volume speaker in the notification area.

He's been posting obsessively for months now, long before the birdy and kitty kat started playing with him in any serious way :D

I was somewhat supportive of him too a while ago, but even agreeing with him was treated with disrespect if the agreement's foundation seemed to differ from his ideas. I actually did and still do have a pretty much neutral opinion about Windows 8. It's just an operating system, after all. And the hardware that runs it...those are just computers which aren't worth getting excited about. In heatlesssun's case, he wants badly to be a hardware/software reviewer and though he hasn't figured out that he can't bludgeon his way into a position of respect among a bunch of people who largely either pity him or find him somewhat obsessive.

Pretty much. I was only mildly negative toward W8 and tablets, mostly indifferent. But faced with such fanatasicm it's extremely easy to become oppositional. Something the likes of heatlesssun and damicatz could both learn.

That's the reason I gave up "being nice" to him.
All he gets from me now are cats/anime/Linux pics.

I figured since he doesn't treat anyone else seriously, then why should we?

You can make up all of the pious nonsense that you want but here's yet another bunch of posts from exactly the same people that are nothing more than personal attacks. You never talk about any real depth experiences, never try to answer technical questions, none of that.

Without all of these personal attacks directed at me I would have only posted here a few times with precise and specific information that actually has some relevance. I'm just calling you guys on your bullshit.

heatless is worse, I think because of his thing with quoting and quoting at people in a thread until someone finally takes the bait and responds. It happens often where he gets ignored for the first 20-60 posts and then finally finds a victim.

That's the reason I gave up "being nice" to him.

Yup, exactly. Your opinion/experiences don't matter to him at all because, regardless of what you know about something, you don't know as much or haven't used it in such-and-such particular situation. Its so silly and deserves cats!

That is such a load of bullshit.
We've done just that in the past and you blow up at us.

We're at the point with you that we just don't care what you say or what you think, considering what we know or do is, and always will be, wrong in your eyes.
Why don't you wake up and smell what you're shoveling.

What is wrong is spamming every damned thread with personal attacks.

I don't know. Why is it okay for you to call Red Falcon a "fucking coward" over and over again or tell other people their opinions are wrong? Opinions are opinions...they don't even need to have a factual basis and can't be wrong. I can say I don't like the sky because the grass looks ugly under it and not be wrong because I don't have to like the sky or care that it has a touch interface or a Wacom pen that can change the shape of the clouds.

Look, RF PMed and apologized over that nonsense and I reciprocated, I'm not going down that rabbit whole, so just drop it.

I've never said anyone's opinions where wrong but when you call a Wacom pen a plastic stick that is interchangeable with any brand of plastic stick, that's not an opinion, that was factually wrong and I wasn't the only person that told you that.

Windows 8, synonymous with heatlesssun. First we get trolled by MS for making an atrocious OS, then we get trolled by the only guy willing to defend it, in every, single, thread. I definately can't knock him on his persistence.

Now heatless, take a good look at that pen. It has *gasp* plastic in it and it's shaped like a stick! It's used to enter data into a computer so it does the same things as any other pen that enters data into a computer and is made of plastic. What part of that's so super complicated that you refuse to admit that there's plastic and it enters data?

Also...Globox...I want that boat! You gives to the Skribbel!

Actually it is more complicated than that.

Wacom tablets generate an electromagnetic field. This field is picked up by the copper coil in the stylus and is used to power the electronic components of the stylus. The stylus itself has one or more pressure sensors as well as a modulator. When the stylus is moved or, when pressure is applied, it manipulates the electromagnetic field using the modulator. This manipulation, in tern, is picked up by sensors in the tablet. A touchscreen is not even required for this technology.

Yep. I've said as much in the past. There's some primal urge to try and balance an ever-toppling equation that leads me to disliking [insert company name here] one unit for every unit of mindless fawning a fanatic does. Post a gushing advertisement for a product; I become less likely to buy said product. Perhaps it's the fear that, if I buy said product, I'd become a conforming, marketspeak-babbling drone like that person, as though the very thing itself is infectious.

To say that people like him are bad for Microsoft would not be an understatement.

Having owned a Wacom tablet, I actually know that already. However, this isn't about Wacom and their before tablet computers thing. It's about a touch-centric computing platform that happens to have support for a pen that happens to be branded with a Wacom logo. It's no different than using any other stick to poke data into a computer and a crappy substitute for the interface devices that are missing from the tablet equation which are a keyboard and mouse. While a pen isn't useless, it's certainly not as efficient at text entry as typing. Writing has to go through a layer of Skribbels-to-characters translation which requires either the user learning something like grafitti in the case of Palm's old OS or training the OS to understand the user. Either way, it's imperfect and needs more translation than simply typing.

only with 1.21 jiggy watts

anyways, WACOM is much more then sticks of plastic, if you want to k now more about interchangable plastic sticks (that suck) talk to Nintendo.

I don't know about the Surface but in the Samsung tablets (Windows and Android Galaxy Note), the included stylus is indeed the exact same technology as a standard Wacom tablet.

Yes, and I don't want another thread to get that ugly again.
However, I do have to say that many times, others do have legitimate experiences with a product, and even when in agreement with you, you aren't very reciprocating in return, and a lot of times downplay them with your own experiences.

This is why we are beyond the point of frustration and anger with you, and just no longer care.
No matter what we say, and no matter how much "proof" or experience we have backing our opinions, they will always be wrong to you.

And when we're done arguing it'll still just be for making Skribbels on a screen just like any other stylus that existed on any other pen-centric platform that existed before them. Totally not worth the effort of getting orgasmic over, I promise.

OMG yes!
Very well said.

Thanks.

To say that people like him are bad for Microsoft would not be an understatement.

When you take out all of the personal attacks that have ZERO to do with Windows 8 all I've even said about Windows 8/Surface Pro even remotely in this thread is:

  • That a Wacom pen isn't a plastic stick interchangeable with other plastic sticks
  • Pointed out that the Surface Pro's pen digitizer isn't Wacom technology and is Microsoft's own optical technology which has been a point of confusion, a lot of people have been thinking it was Wacom tech.
  • Provided a script that pins the Sound Control Panel Applet for someone who was asking for a way to do this.
  • Explained at a high level the basic experience of using Office 2013 with touch, again in response to a direct question.
So now answering specific questions with specific answers and correcting totally erroneous information is bad for Microsoft? LOL!:D

Can I get it with Windows7Pro instead?

That's the most ass backwards thing I've read on this forum in a long time. :p The one thread where I expected to see at least 80% of the comments being pro-windows 8.

You've obviously never tried to use Win7 on a touch device, it's a completely abysmal experience.

Thing is most of you guys never really talk any detailed Windows 8 experiences so there's been little for me to disagree on that front. I may disagree with an opinion, we all do, how can I say it's wrong? That's why it's called opinion. When someone says something that just factually wrong and I know it, I point it out.

You've obviously never tried to use Win7 on a touch device, it's a completely abysmal experience.

It's certainly not as good as Windows 8. If you ever intend to use the device as a tablet, I don't see the point of putting Windows 7 on it. If you want Windows 7, this isn't the right device.

There's actually pretty decent support for touch in Windows 7. I had a tablet convertible for a couple of years. Swiping to go back/forward, gestures, etc. Writing notes on powerpoint presentations. Etc.

It's a nice supplement to the keyboard/mouse in 7. Now XP, that has abysmal touch support.

I was going to say, compared to XP, 7 was amazing. But the touch on Win8 so far is pretty great for a full blown OS.

My biggest complaint about those Win8 lovers (I like it, but not love it) is that if someone says it's not efficient, or it's not as good, or a complaint, they get the Steve Jobs reply "You're doing it wrong". I've heard so many people say it's different and more difficult followed by "You need to learn keyboard shortcuts, you need to use it differently, blah...blah...blah...". Thing is, the mouse/keyboard have been the biggest improvement to the GUI in a long time. Touch is still in its infancy for the GUI. Windows 8 has some things right, but seems to go all in instead of slowly moving over. Some things aren't done as smooth as they could have been. I am sure a lot of it will change in Windows 9.

Windows 8 isn't that great. It's good, but the UI brings it down. A lot. I like the live tiles. But, it's NOT a viable replacement for the Start menu for me and a lot of others. I can use it just fine, but it's just not 'finished' in my opinion.

Heatlessun - do you spend any time in the Microsoft Communities forums? If you really want to help answer questions and set people straight, that's a very good outlet. I spend a lot of time there, and have for a long time (previously Microsoft Answers and before that it was usenet). I didn't have problems with Vista, but answered a lot of questions and problems. Same with Win8. I may not see too many issues, but by going through so many problems and seeing so many confused people asking the same questions over and over, it's very obvious that the UI just isn't as simple as Microsoft wanted. There are other problems, but they aren't as widespread. They are simple problems that you see across multiple OS's. But, if you want to help out over there, we could always use someone knowledgeable like yourself. (I don't work for Microsoft, just a volunteer helping out where I can.). But, like I said, you do get a very different outlook on the end users and what problems they face.

Demonstratably false. In fact, I did demonstrate it was false a page or so ago, in a week where me and Skribble totalled 4 or 5 posts in W8/tablet threads, you made 104. So really, left unchecked, evidence suggests you actually post MORE. Also, you're one to talk about personal attacks, I think you're the only one who has resorted to direct personal attacks
