Gameplay > graphics everytime

No, not everytime and I get sick of people saying this. There are pefectly great graphically games that are average gameplay that I would pick up over a great gameplay game with shitty graphics. Sorry I admit to being a graphics whore and living in the year 2012 with high expectations. I have a high end PC with high end hardware so that I can enjoy more realistic graphics, not so I can play something that looks like it came out in 2005, just saying...

Pretty much. In this day and age, we expect not only games that push our PC's past the limit, but to be (somewhat) challenging and fun, most of all. Granted, art-styles vary, so that's not really a fair argument, but the game should be MODERN most of all. It should scale well also, so that people who are running Pentium II's can also "start" it.

I find that I cannot make it through using Stealth. Someone sees me, then everyone has to die.

Does enabling Transparency AA and enhancing the AA through the NV Control Panel work for anyone in this game? It doesn't seem to make a difference for me.

Ok after playing if for a few more hours I just can't get into this game. its some what entertaining but way to easy and the combat feels like all i do it mash one to two buttons, which gets rather tedious.

and the characters are rather blah, i don't feel for their cause, or care if they live or die. there are only 2 characters that i have any interest

the little princess which i like and want to protect.

the shadow guy who seems like the 19th century version of the g man from half life crossed with that evil general from the first F.E.A.R. ( the guy that ended up being your brother

that being said i am still having fun playing it and will continue to play until i beat it. but its a lot less fun than i anticipated.

It is all about patience :D

My friend who picked up the game is in the same boat. He send me a message last night when we were playing. "This game doesn't play to my strengths." His strengths being aggressive run and gun. Then he sent another message "I'm slowly learning stealth and patience, taking someone down or slipping through an area undetected is immensely more satisfying then killing."

I may go back and try to replay the last mission and work on my stealth.

is there a way to equip just the sword and not have the gun in the other hand?

Max the difficulty out and I guarantee that you "kill everyone" guys are still going to be challenged. ;)

ha that's funny :D. i thought i'd play through the first time just killing everything in sight but i keep gravitating towards stealth. if i can't figure it out after a few tries i go in guns blazing. for example on the first assassination mission in the Distillery District:

there's a bone charm on the far end of the bridge, past the 3 guards dumping bodies over the side. i couldn't figure out a way to sneak past without them noticing me. tried possessing a rat but i couldn't make it across the bridge before the possession wore off.
so i ended up killing them.

are you trying to stealth through some areas? that makes it challenging for me.

I am absolutely loving this game so far, I am just a few hours in but man what a breath of fresh air it has been…nice art style, music is awesome for those that have headphones I recommend using them you will really notice the difference in the sound details around you. Game play (reminds me of Thief and Deus-Ex with some Assassins creed in there too). Great game and GOTY material for sure.

I also believe that in this day and age games are not just about game play over graphics you really have to have both to succeed in making a great game. Without great graphics you will lose out on details and atmosphere in a game. Think about it for those games that have the game play but not the graphics how much better the play through experience would have been to have the graphics (it’s all about the details within a game and good developers will want to use this) you miss out on the details in a game with just game play and not high end graphics. A developers vision comes more to life when they can implement the right formula which is to have great Graphics and Game Play.

Define stealth, if it means killing every one in the lvl with out setting off an alarm then yes i am very stealthy.

going through areas without alerting the guards to your presence (if you kill them or put them to sleep at that point, is up to you :D). i'm playing on hard difficulty and haven't been all that successful.

the saving anywhere is kind of lame. they should limit your saves by the difficulty. otherwise passive isn't really a feat at all..

i haven't used quick save at all, mainly due to the fact that i didn't notice it had a quick save. lol which makes me kind of a jackass, but its the norm for me im one of those morons that didn't know oblivion had quick travel until i played it for about 40 hours.

Bought the game yesterday from GMG. Seems pretty fun. Playing on very hard atm. Currently really reminds me of Bioshock

Post quoted for obvious reasons. Bump, encore appearance, etc.

Doesn't that screw up other things though? Granted I only skimmed the thread. But I saw stuff about it breaking zoom, and needing to make additional key bindings. I had the same problem with the FOV fixes for Borderlands 1. I couldn't be bothered to tweak all that shit just to fix a simple thing.

85 seems okay at my screen size (22" I think) and resolutions (1920x1080p). I usually do 90 I think though.

85 should show way more then it actually does though. you can see like 1/4 of the blade instead of 1/8

in skyrim i have my fov at like 110, love it.

agreed though it is a small thing I wont bother with it probably.

Depends on how they implement FoV. Some games actually pull the camera back so you can see more of your arms/weapons, others just modify the zoom level.

No thanks, quicksave is essential for people who want to play through sneaky without having to re-do sections over and over again, if you can't force yourself not to use quicksave that shouldn't be a problem the rest of us have to put up with.

not having to re-do it because you failed doing it the first time sounds like the type of catering to gamers that is more and more common nowadays. there is no accomplishment in saving the game so you can try it as many times until you get it 100%. If I get silent assassin on hitman its because I tried until I was actually a silent assassin because silent assassins dont get re-dos this isnt four square!

Thank you for your post.

/agree

Sometimes I quicksave through a fight if it's tough enough, but usually i enjoy using quicksaves where i believe a checkpoint should be.

jesus. it wasn't that long ago that people considered a game to be 'consolized' if it lacked quicksave.

what are people setting their FOV to?

I read that in order for Adaptive VSync to work that the in-game VSync setting needs to be disabled...true?

Only 15min into the game and Im not seeing myself getting into it. Its too cartoony with a story that feels like its for the Disney crowd(bad guys monologue their guilt to the big conspiracy within the first 5min of the game).
The engine feels really old...Like Im sure this game looked good in 2008, but Im not feeling the visuals or the environment. Gameplay feels extremely console
Make a console port press[F]

Combat feels wrong, like im able to strike people from much too far away with my sword and I have to block them from 15ft...

I was hoping for a dark and dirty steampunk game, but it doesnt feel like that at all.

I don't know, the textures on some things seems JARRINGLY low res, like circa 90's low res.

The tree in that courtyard where you play hide and seek at the first of the game. I "hid" behind it and up close the textures were so low res it actually took me by a bit of a surprise because of it.

I played for a few minutes just past that hide-and-seek section and I agree that the graphics look very dated in spots...graphics aren't everything but when something looks really off then you do take notice

You haven't even scratched the game yet...

Don't use it. You aren't required or forced to use it.

It's to cartoony wahhh wahhh. People care way to much about graphics. I love the art style and it works well. Engine is Unreal 3. Controls don't feel like a console port at all. You are out of touch with PC gaming if you think that.

Sorry, I play ARMA2 almost exclusivly, the farthest thing from a console port.

Cartoony to the point that it feels Disney.
Im not one to put visuals over gameplay, but this is shitty console visuals that looked average half a decade ago.
ok, so the controls dont feel fully console, except that there is use of a console number of keys....and everything with glows or has the universal console "[F]" to use crap. Im sure its geared towards teens, but I dont get the steampunk vibe much at all.
I have put a few hours into it now and its average at best. I wish it had more atmosphere and my opinion is a more modern engine(not a straight console port) and different art style would add the grit thats needed for the steampunk feel.
The gameplay gets better, but only slightly...I find the story weak and the glowing doors and items juvenile.

5/10 I was really hoping for more. Perhaps I set my expectations too high.
$14....$59.99 MSRP is ridiculous.

If you took the five seconds to look in the options menu you'd see you can completely customize what "hand-holding" options are shown on the hud. My hud went from overly cluttered and glowing stupid shit, to literally nothing on screen if i'm sneaking around. You can make the health/mana bars disappear after a bit, you can turn off all the objective markers, glowing objects, mission updates, etc.
