HOT $161 HP elitebook 17.3" LED Notebook - i7 8GB ddr3/750GB/nvidia quadro 3000m

I know some people hate when people clamor for obvious price mistakes, but you cannot excuse the companies from stupidity. I mean really all these technology and no one is doing any quality control? If you you screw around and over automate junk you deserve to get nailed every so often. How hard would it really be to write software that does some simple checking, how about actually having accurate stock. Etc...

All these companies are in fact run by greed and as it should be sometimes their greed, lazyness etc.. gets the better of them.

I can understand your frustration, but why should they 'deserve to get nailed every so often'? You are out absolutely nothing- they don't charge you until they ship. Yeah it sucks, but if you are that angry, don't buy from them. It's a free market, if they screw up, they lose business.

I think he's just upset that he wasn't able to buy an entire laptop with expensive components (apparently the screen on that thing is one of the best IPS displays on a laptop ever) for half the going price of the processor alone.

Ironic when you consider that most of the people that jump on "deals" (mistakes) like this are motivated by nothing other than greed. If you're in the market for an item and it shows up at a great price, that's one thing. But when you see an obvious price mistake and attempt to purchase multiple units for the sake of reselling them (at the company's expense if they actually ship) for a ginormous profit, that's greed. Nothing more, nothing less.

I haven't looked but is there any connection between adorama and thenerds? How could 2 different sites (maybe more) all the same pricing error at the same time? Doesn't that seem odd? thenerds had another hp (8460 line) in the $150 range during the same "sale."

So what, one person programming both sites screws up across the board? Doesn't that seem unlikely?

Well, greed is sure a loaded word.

Putting this situation into an economics framework, the consumers are simply trying to maximize their total utility. We're just following what is laid out in the rational consumer theory.

I don't have to use loaded words to get my point across.

Simpler. They both are drop shipping the item and take a price feed from the distributor. These sites and many do so, but these particular sites didn't have automatic price spike checking in place to protect against errors. Thus, the absurdly low price shows and people order it....

Lol. How is greed a loaded word? I'm just telling it like it is. You justify it however you want to. I bet you'd be equally as understanding if you listed something on eBay and accidentally made the buy it now price $100 instead of $1000 and someone bought it. You'd honor the sale since the buyer would just be maximizing their total utility, right?

Your argument is disjoint, AND you're putting words in my mouth. Put your logical thinking cap on and take off your emotional argument cap.

I never declared that this pricing error must be honored. If Adorama decided to fulfill a couple of orders for a few lucky people to get some publicity, good for Adorama and good for those lucky individuals.

Pricing errors are sometimes honored, and this is why people toss their hat in the ring when this type of thing happens. They are trying to maximize their total utility, plain and simple.

If you don't agree with the accepted, modern theory of the rational consumer, fine. Just don't expect to be taken seriously when you try to have an educated discussion about the topic and hammer out a trite, poorly thought out response.

i ordered 4 friday night. i hope i get them! if not im going to do nothing at all.

Why is he part of the problem?

I bought 2. One for me and one for the family! or friend... havent' decided.

I got my cancellation already though. Oddly enough, I got a backorder email afterwards ....

This thread is ridiculous. It should be closed.

I ordered 2 because you never know. If it goes through, great, if not then big deal. Kinda like buying a lottery ticket. If you know you're not going to win you wouldn't buy them, right? But there is always that little glimmer of hope...

What problem?

there are plenty of problems in this world. betting nothing against something and expecting nothing in return is not one of them. dallows is just having one of those overly dramatic sorta days i guess. :p

Well my thenerds order has been charged and they have the funds through Paypal already. These cancellations are going to be a much bigger pain in the ass for them.

wow me too

Adorama order cancelled, was charged for my the-nerds order. Who knows?! :)

Why did they even bother to send me an email saying: "We're sorry for any inconvenience.
Unfortunately, one or more of the items in your order are not in stock, see details below.
We'll ship your order as soon as possible. If you want to cancel your order, please let us know."

If they have no intentions of shipping it...why send this?

Pretty sure the backorder emails are automatic when an item has been purchased but cannot be shipped.

Yep, just got my nerds cancellation as well.

Now time to band together and file a class action suit against the people for not losing money and giving me the laptop at the advertised price.

/sarcasm = off

... I'll believe it when I see a tracking #.

I ordered 1 of the original Core i7 ones and a couple of i5 ones (thought it was the i7 at first, rofl), got supposed "shipped" emails a short while later, no cancellation yet, paid through amazon.... not holding my breath but hey, I'm not ashamed to admit these are going straight to the 'Bay if I get 'em ;), and I won't be saying they violated my rights and are a greedy corporation if they cancel :p.

Maybe jtr8178 and GoldenTiger are the winners of this lottery. Lucky!

no cancellation email on my nerds order yet. When I go to tracking it says the order may have already shipped, but tracking number has not yet been uploaded.

I think this is the status for all of the Amazon Payment orders that made it in early enough. I got my "shipped" email within 30 mins of placing the order (Friday night). My Amazon card shows the charge has posted but the tracking info is totally blank. So I think we will be the biggest losers having to fork over a few cents of interest to our credit cards. Still cheaper than the lottery though. :D

Credit cards don't get charged interest on purchases unless those purchases are not paid off within 30 days.

So if the money gets refunded within 30 days, there is no interest at all.

I dont think I used Amazon payments that I know of, just my regular CC (unless Amazon payments was just part of the normal CC ordering process and fairly transparent and I didn't notice it)

This is the exact text when I try to track the order

Your order may have already shipped; please allow an additional 48 hours for tracking information to post. Thank you for your patience.

I'm still holding out hope when this is combined with no cancel email+ the fact my card has been charged. LOL. Plus the website had said something about if you order on the weekend you will get your tracking # tuesday, so I guess I'll know tomorrow.

"unless those purchases are not paid off within 30 days"="if you carry a balance"

Only if the interest is calculated from "adjusted balance", which is not the most common. If you carry a balance already and the interest is calculated from "average daily balance" or "previous balance", then you will be paying interest even if they refund you within 30 days.

Received two conflicting emails from TheNerds:

"Unfortunately we were unable to get an authorization on your credit card and your order has been cancelled."

and

"Currently we are out of stock on one of the products you've ordered. Because www.thenerds.net does not believe in holding our customers back from receiving their products, we have cancelled this product on your order."

The actual order at TheNerds show:

"VOID: Backorder (Product is out of stock . Sorry for the inconvience)"

So that's that! My order was placed on Saturday morning at 4am EST, using a credit card, not through Amazon. At the time there were 64 in stock after my order of 2. My CC is current and valid, and the amount showed up as "pending charges" online.

Just got my cancel, never mind lol
