What the heck is wrong with newegg video cards?

I've ordered around 4 video cards the past 2 months, and I swear almost all of them have all been open and used. One example, on the Sapphire 6850, there are fingerprints on it and scrapes on it, and white powder on the PCB.

Anyone else have this experience?

Not me. I'm on my 4th video card in as many years from Newegg and all have been brand spankin new and worked perfectly.

I've never had this problem from Newegg or any other retailer.

I'm on my 5th videocard this year from them and I can't say I've had a problem with them at all. They all show up nice and new, sealed in box. Same with all the ones, except open box obviously, I bought last year.

Have you tried calling the manufacturer of the respective videocards and asked if that is normal for their cards to come that way. It could be last minute QA testing.

Well, are you guys ordering new launch cards, or older tech? I only experienced this with the cards I bought that were last years tech. I'm thinking people returned these, and newegg doesn't want to take a hit on them, and just resells them.

I just bought this:

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814150561

and it has absolutely ZERO accessories. I was reading the review but no one mentions this which seems odd.

But this really isn't the bad experience from newegg, it's more the fingerprints and clearly used items I was worried about.

Missing accessories, I couldn't care less.

Screw that..I would call/chat and demand an open box price discount or return it for full refund and no restocking fee...that is bullshit.

I bought the exact same card (model and everything) from newegg 2 weeks ago and it was fine. No fingerprints (plastic was still on it) and it was sealed on both sides.

Mine has no plastic. Is yours missing accessories as well?

idk how many posts I've read on so many forums about how ppl will buy to try, then return video cards for something different. One has to wonder what the retail loss is like and how this affects stock on the 28nm line.

Nope. Everything was there. Call newegg and tell them what happened.

I'm really reluctant, because on my last videocard, they claimed they do not do credits and that I had two options, to return for a refund or to return for an exchange. Both meaning I have to be out of a video card.

This is why I think I've experienced it only with older tech purchases than newer tech.

I've bought 4 cards from newegg this year and not a single problem. All brand new in sealed boxes w/all the accessories.

Id have to agree. I have purchased many lower end budget video cards from newegg between 2011/12, not one has had an issue.

I am unsure why you would blame Newegg for it though anyways, wouldnt this be an issue with the products shipped from manufacturers? Newegg just sells the stuff, they dont make the stuff......

No they ship from their own warehouses, they don't dropship...this was sold as new retail so it is Newegg's problem to set straight. Nobody said this was normal but they need to make it right.

But they store the merchandise and they ship it out. Unless somehow the box is shrink-wrapped by the manufacturer and yet somehow the item inside is used (which I HIGHLY doubt would come from the manufacturer) then it's likely Newegg throwing returned cards back on the "new" shelf, either accidentally or otherwise.

That said, I've never had this problem with Newegg personally but it's not the first time I've heard of it happening.

The pictures on newegg do not show any accessories. Per the XFX website > Includes:
Promotional Bundles:Cross Marketing insert
Quick Installation Guide:1
XFX Serial Number Door Hanger:1
Installation CD with Multi-Language User Guide:1
Driver CD Installation Guide:1

Did you get those items?

If the box is sealed but you find fingerprints on your card it is also possible this happened during manufacture or packaging of the card.

Ahh...yeah I see that now? But I've never seen fingerprints on a new sealed in the static bag card?

Yeah honestly I dont see any accessories with that card so.....

Fingerprints, well ok.... But in reality, who cares? If the card works and has full warranty, some removable cosmetic blemishes, does it make a difference? :p Ive never seen fingerprints on a new card but...

Because cosmetic issue or otherwise, it still sucks that OP bought something advertised as new, but got something that (allegedly) was used.

Unless we're going with the "it happens all the time, just accept it" mindset. I can't say I like that either...

Yeah that card doesn't come with any accessories, unless you mean the pamphlets in the pictures. Simple fingerprints could be from the factory, they don't necessarily mean it's used, just that some guy didn't wear his gloves.

If it's clearly used, with ripped packaging, torn stickers, missing parts, etc, complain to newegg for a discount/replacement with cross-shipping. If they won't do it, complain on resellerratings.com-- newegg monitors that site very closely and will move heaven and earth to get you to change your review to positive there. No exaggeration.

He also said it didn't come in any plastic...it sounds unprofessional at best and gross negligence/false advertising at worst.

Oh I missed that. It's definitely used if the card didn't even come in an antistatic bag! Complain to newegg, then move on to resellerratings if they won't help you.

Can't say for the rest but white powder on the pcb is normal. Some times it almost looks like a dried fluid spill. From my understanding it's normally left over flux and junk from the manufacturing process that didn't get cleaned off all the way during its chemical bath. I see it on cheaper new gpu and mobos all the time.

Although occasionally I read on the NewEgg reviews of people receiving used items when they bought new, I have yet to encounter that at all with them, or really any other retailer, for that matter. About the closest I have been was when I bought my Corsair GS600 power supply, and it was missing the case badge and zip ties. But, the box was sealed, and I could tell that the PS was never used.

Anyhow, I would definately raise cain if NewEgg or the manufacturer repeatedly sends you used items when you bought new. Make them make it right.

If there is nothing wrong with the card, then use it. Complain to newegg one way or another and maybe they'll give you a discount on your next purchase or something like that, who knows. Just make sure you let them know that the next video card better be new! Weird, I've never had this problem either.

My MSI TF 560Ti 2GB wasn't wrapped, came in a box (that coulda been opened b4...yeah I didn't like that but everything was there and it's fine. But yeah I expect my videocards boxes to come with plastic on them. It shouldn't be like that, I've never had that happen b4 from them, dunno if MSI ships them in boxes or puts wrap on them to be honest...

This happened to me once from newegg when I bought my GTX470, I believe.

The tape that held the fan still had been pulled off, and internal bags had been opened.

I called Newegg and told them this, they offered to give me the open box discount, and I was OK with that given the condition of that card.

Much more than that though, and I'd return it.

I think a lot of people are a little untruthful when they basically say, "deal with it". If it happened to them, I think they'll take on a different tone.

If an item shows indication of being used, why would you pay new for it? Do you know who did what to something before they returned it? I'm obviously not the first one that this has happened to, and people have heard personal experiences similar to this as well.

I would certainly, at MINIMUM, call the company and get a discount. If they refused a discount I would probably return for a refund. Nothing against Newegg as they've generally been good to me, but regardless of how often it happens, if the retailer willingly did it, or who the retailer is, selling used goods as new is unacceptable IMO.

+100

make them make this situation right. you paid full price for BRAND NEW IN BOX.

I tell you what, if my 7970 came in that condition id raise fucking hell. $700 for a powdery white video card with missing accessories?

NO THANKS.

Yes, happened here. One time. Got a used ASUS HD6870. The card had residue and fingerprints all over, a total mess. Took a lot of effort and time to make them refund it, but eventually they did.

depends on how much your time is worth to you. I'm lazy so I'd just be cool that it works, though.

From Newegg's perspective they'd rather have a happy customer than a few extra dollars so I'm sure they'd work with you to make you feel better about your purchase if you wanted to spend your time doing so.

Ok, but did you contact Newegg? and what did they do???

I've been buying from Newegg since they were still Egghead and I have to say I have a very hard time believing the validity of your stories... if they happened, then that sucks... but 4 cards? Really?

Egghead and newegg were never the same company. I have ordered from newegg since they opened basically and never had the op's issue... and I have ordered a lot. I have always had great cs when needed.
