Battlefield 3 General Discussion Thread

That's what I thought. It would be nice if you could pick the next weapon, like BF2. Not sure how useful the Stinger missile is going to be for the engineer, for example, so would like to avoid having to waste an unlock on that. Is there a weapon tree posted anywhere, that shows the unlock path for all the classes? All I've seen on battlelog is the next unlock (but I didn't look very hard).

wow, just played the 360 version.. Looks like poop, but the hit reg was a million times better... WTF..

took 1 shot to the head with the M9 to kill, and m16 took 2-3 max to the body to drop someone..

Only played one round cause I cant stand the aiming. But was kinda impressed with the hit reg.
 
My biggest "complaint" is that hitboxes seem off, sometimes. It also takes a moment for it to register. I've hit guys at a run who take 3-5 steps before it registers, and they suddenly warp back to the spot they were hit in.

Overall, there are really just a few minor issues, like you said.

That sucks, I haven't had that issue. Registration seems very good to me overall; I haven't witnessed people "warping" back into place, although my friend has that too. It seems related to the quality of your local net connection.

I don't get it often, the only "registration" type issues I have is where it seems I should be shooting someone for a headshot but I'm shooting them 2-3 times and then they kill me. Prone with a m249 and 3.7x scope in the subway, hit a sniper 2 times in the face (all that shows over concrete barrier, X displays on screen), then he kills me.
 
Yeah, seem to be a lot of issues with hit indication. 99% of the time I die it seems like a one-hit death because I had no idea I was already being shot. Kind of annoying when it can take so many rounds to drop someone else.

It's the one hit kill bug that has already been confirmed by devs to be addressed in the final version. Sometimes when you are hit while moving you die in one hit.

Yeah that's annoying. I'm glad to find out it's a game issue and not me constantly getting killed with one shot....:eek:
 
Yeah I think the UMP is OP. So far I've gotten 3-4 more guns past it, but I keep going back to it.

SMG's are quite OP, though they do have limited magazine size (20 rounds for the PP-2000) which is my preferred SMG, but i still manage to kill someone in ~5 rounds with the suppressor on it.

though this is only because op. metro is a CQB map, it wont be quite so OP once we get larger conquest maps.
 
oh and if you play the support class give the M249 + suppressor a whirl (if you haven't already). it's so lethal it feels downright dirty :D
I love the M249 so much. Its all I use.
M249 + M145 (3.4x) + Foregrip.

i don't find it all that special. maybe i need to spend more time with it.
 
I haven't had any warping issues, but I do agree about the hit detection. Sometimes I will be taking single, aimed shots at a guy far away, and the cursor is indicating that I'm hitting him, but after 5-6 hits the guy still isn't dead. A lot of the time all I can see is their head, too, so something is messed up.

I am still under the firm opinion that the F2000 is better than the UMP. The P90 sucks which is pretty disappointing.

when i'm standing over a med pack and someone is popping single shots into me i can withstand quite a few.

lol, this is usually my experience when it comes to gun envy but I made a point of shanking a UMPer just to try it out and immediately went on a kill streak I up to that point had not been able to achieve. It groups super tight, even on full spray and hits really, really hard.

ran through subway just raking in headshots with m240. He got 14 kills with in 20 seconds...

Sad, little prepubescents need to hack a beta to be good..

This. If I cut a corner with an f2000 and 2 people are staring at me, odds are I may get 1 and take the other guy halfway. With the UMP, usually it isn't an issue to take out both - quickly - and potentially throw a few shots at a 3rd person and then duck back and reload. It seems to deal a bit more damage and be ridiculously accurate, even from the hip. I run it with a silencer and red dot and squad suppression perk. Suppression really seems to help, I see a noticable difference in return fire/damage with other perks vs it on.

I've seen some ridiculously good players during this open-beta.

I really wish they would get rid of the "leveling" system.

I should be able to choose what I want to kit out with and go from there, it makes no sense to level up just to get access to a fucking scope. I know it draws people into playing more, but w/e.

Really buddy? Ive played plenty of games to tell what a hacker looks like. I have no problem getting my ass handed to me, I dont throw the hacker card out very often.

But this guy gets it with out even blinking, when you can run down the escalators over A and take out 14 people with all head shots from a pig (240) within 35-40seconds? Yea my bad he must be good...

**Edit** Well after a bit of searching.. sure as shit.. they scrubs already made a few injectors... ESP, Walls, Radar, and crosshairs, along with others..

Drawing people in to playing more makes sense with an MMO, where you are paying to play, but with a free game I don't see the appeal of the RPG elements (from a developer stand point their revenue doesn't change whether I play 5 hours or 500 hours). I guess that's just what you need to do to compete and draw in the "acheivements" crowd.
 
OK, just played the beta, and gotta say, it sucks, just like BF2. Spawn, run a lot, get shot from somewhere and by someone who you never even see.

At least CoD you can tell who blasted you.

it gets better. move slowly, seek cover, pop your head up and scan your area...you'll start racking up kills in no time.

Oh right, I hadn't heard of that. I must be especially unlucky then because it's less "sometimes" for me and more "all the times".
 
hey guys, i turned my Sony on today and it was set at 1920x1200 yesterday but now it is only going up to 1920x1200 at 75hz. When I set it at 85hz ( like it always is) it goes back to 1600x1200? What gives?

The round can land right by the player and it only causes health damage.
It has to land directly on them or at their feet in order for it to be an insta-kill.
 
I think I pissed someone from EA/DICE who was playing against me in a match. I killed him one time outside the subway in attackers spawn as he had his lil Wall-E gadget out. I caught him in the right side tunnels, knifed him. This time I took his Wall-E with intention to surprise attack the attackers. But thanks to the clipping issue in this beta, my Wall-E got stuck in the ground as I was going into tunnels with it. So I get out of Wall-E view and spot the same guy again, only this time I can tell he's looking for me. I kill him and immediately after I get "You have been disconnected from the server" I laugh it off thinking he kicked me. However, I cannot get into any servers at all whether it be 27/32 or 0/32. It keeps saying, "Could not join server because it's full". Has this happened to anyone else or is anybody experiencing this right now? It could be coincidence afterall..

I noticed it's just horribly inconsistent. Sometimes a direct hit will kill, other times it will only do 30% damage.

I've had that happen before. Just keep trying, close the game/origin and relaunch usually fixes it quickest.

EDIT: And we're not stupid, we got in the same party, tried to do a party join and apparently he never sees the thing to accept. He also isn't getting the dropdown to do "Join with Party" Quick Match. So basically we're stuck and I'm guessing it's because the beta is buggy as shit. Really frustrating.

Devs said it's not working properly in Beta.

We almost got a party game going, but when I accepted and he tried to start the game, it said I was still in-game (which I hadn't been for like 10 minutes). Then when I tried to do a Party Join, it never popped up even though it said I created one. Battlelog just seems to lag horribly behind whatever you're trying to do and updating your status.

I was really liking this until I actually tried to play it with a friend. Now it's infuriating. I imagine it will be fixed, but still. Not really making Battlelog grow on me.

Wait until final when things like squading up won't be so infuriating. I have no doubt battlelog will have a few bugs on release but my friends and I aren't having much trouble with it right now, mostly just a few issues with partying every now and then.
 
Just got done playing some more.

First, UMP and some other machine pistol are WAY overpowered.

Second, I was in a game where we lost as the attackers, so we played defenders next. Someone on our team started using an aimbot and killing the attacking team before they could even take two steps from the attacker spawn. A bunch of people complaining ensued, empty ban threats, etc. Then a guy on the other team started using an aimbot as well so it was aimbot vs. aimbot. Pretty funny, albiet stupid, so I left. Then when I got back to Battlelog, it looks like none of my data had saved (I ranked up, etc.) What the fuck?

Third...Fellow players, Y U NO WORK AS A TEAM?!? It seems like NO ONE uses defib, ammo/med packs, etc. Sometimes, but it's incredibly rare, and usually it's only like 5 medpacks spammed in one spot (as if that's helpful). Ammo is especially non-existent, and I've revived countless players, but have only been revived I think like 5 times total in all of my hours of playing. My score is usually 2k-3k and I am far from the top killer, but it's because I actually use the special skills and support my team.

That's the problem with public servers (and the rush game type). Hopefully when the retail comes out there will be clan servers with people who actually try to play as a team. Right now it is just glorified deathmatch.
