Why is your favorite the 3 monitors in portrait mode?

Have you tried out 5x1 Portrait? It's by far my favorite for both games and work. You get the added FOV, crispness of large vertical resolution, and the awesomeness of portrait monitors for browsing.

reply to the other thread that he posted those pics and comments..

.
.. I don't mind having narrower side monitors in portrait mode.. currently my side panels are x900 wide 19" screens to match the x1440 height of my main monitor and they are wide enough for some nice long file manager windows, most web pages, status bars/progress bars, download managers, chat apps, music apps, volume mixer, etc., as well as providing some good extra desktop/workspace and tool-bar real-estate for full screen adobe and other apps across all three panels. I haven't tried it so I can't say from experience, but I just know I wouldn't like middle screen being narrow in 3x portrait mode at x1200.. even if I had three 30" in PPP with 1600 wide, I feel the game content and my perspective vs the bars would be too narrow on the middle screen. The closest I'd rather have is centered portrait "ears" longer on each side of a landscape monitor | |==| | though it wouldn't work for eyefinity/surround gaming. But thats just my own personal taste vs the bar's orientation to my viewing perspective. Besides that - eyefinity gaming is designed to keep the side monitors in your periphery for immersion like an imax curved screen sortof. You aren't supposed to be sitting back so far that you have the side monitors in your direct gaze. PPP wouldn't really work for that unless you had your nose against the screen on the middle monitor with the side panels angled toward your ears.

For general all around use, I find triple portrait superior and to be the best compromise. It is excellent for work productivity as I'm constantly viewing legal size documents and surfing the net. Despite the bezels, gaming on it is very sweet because of the massive resolution..yes there are bezels but your also getting triple the resolution of your typical 42" HDTV and you notice the crisp eye popping detail on games like Crysis, Mafia 2, Just Cause 2, etc. Plus, I can simply rotate the monitors back to landscape if I wanna go superwide....but I never have felt the need since going portrait.

A single 30" monitor felt odd to me, its like it was too big for surfing and too small for comfortably displaying multiple pages..a single 30" always felt awkward to me. I loved gaming on the 30" though...but the magic I felt gaming on the 30" is even greater with the triple portrait setup...simply put, if you like gaming on a 30" I can almost guarantee you will like gaming on triple 24"s in portrait despite the bezels.

Multiple projectors with edge blending is the best for simulators...It is simply amazing playing Rise of Flight on this thing!

Hey Suiken, nice to talk to you again...love your 5x1 setup, been following it forever on the WSGF...Unfortunately, my 6970 only has support for 3 monitors as the adapters have not been released yet :(

For most people like myself is just working for it. I know that everyone is feeling doom and gloom over the current state of the economy but there's still opportunities out there to have a decent life materially without having to kill for it.

Actually, I've had to kill to earn my stuff.....Well in fiction anyway...I'm a writer :D

Awe sad. You know what? Where are those MST Hubs they promise way back during the 6000 series launch? It's probably the biggest reason I haven't wanted to upgrade my video card.

mismatching LCD sizes might not work for you, but it's just fine for me and my occasional eyefinity gaming session :D

I love this thread, I just wish there was a way to only view the images and not all of the posts only containing text.

.. ......Did someone say something? I can't tell because all I do is look at the pics. <sarcasm> lol.
..
... I like the text. A lot of it gives insight into the setups and how people feel about them, technical and general setup hurdles, pros and cons, etc.. and allows people to ask questions and get more details following as well.
....If anything I'd like the pics to have a maximum size/thumbnail option I could toggle depending what device and connection I'm using at any given time. Text is easy.
...
... You can edit your options to show 40 posts per page which might help though.

Nothing wrong with mismatched sizes - I only wish Eyefinity supported multiple resolutions as I use a PLP/LLL layout. Do you notice the bezels while gaming?

With a desk that does not have a back on it the wires are hard to hide.
Desk is some type of stone (cut marble I think) 28 inches wide by 60 inches long,
With 2 X 30 inch (2560 by 1600) DELL Flat panels on top

You guys have some great set-ups. I posted a while back; recently made a few changes and ended up with 11440x1600. I am also running the HP LP2065 on the right (and have 3 more in the closet from when I was running 4x20 + 1x30).

The monitor on the left tends to be Outlook 2010 in a VM, the 3x30 in the middle for work, 1x20 on the right for iTunes and small scratch space when needed.

Just thought I'd make my first post with some flair.

I'm sorry for quoting a post that was months ago, but hopefully someone will answer. Lovely set-up but how did you achieve that picture? It looks like hockney or panning?

After seeing this, it's time for an office makeover...thanks for the inspiration. Love your setup!

All of that hardware is super nice, but nothing ties it together like a Galaga sideart repro! Where did you get that bad boy at?
