Microcenter prices on sandy bridge

I think I might be in for a 2400 next month if the Q boards with vt-d come out. Otherwise I'll wait.

Hmm, I'm only about 40 minutes from a MicroCenter. Might be worth a trip on Sunday to pick one of these up at that price.

You guys think Frys will match that price if I brought that in and showed them. I'm too far away to get to a microcenter

That's what I was wondering too. Fry's won't match an online store, but they are supposed to do 110% price match as long as it's in stock at a local competitor. I'll probably print it out and give it a try since MC is a bit further of a drive.

Probably not, although it seems they are doing some different price matching now so maybe.

Usually places will only price match competitors that are within a certain distance like 20 miles or whatever.

I will be at MC first thing sunday. I have a feeling the 2500k's will sell out fast online and retail.

I have a feeling those prices will be even lower soon. For the 2600K atleast

Just wondering what makes you think that? Intel's official price on the 2600k is $317 in lots of 1000 (2500k is $216) so Microcenter is selling them at loss unless they managed to get better pricing. I'm sure MC is hoping that people will buy memory, cables, power supplies and other stuff to make up the loss.

I am sure they are getting a better deal than $215 for a 2500k

That being said other than the cpu I am buying from newegg the 17th, I may price check MC on some stuff but they are usually higher than the egg so I dont use them too much.

My guess is no. Usually stores won't price match to some kind of "in store rebate" which is what it sounds like Microcenter is doing. The "official" Microcenter price is the higher one, which is what I would think Fry's would price match to.

That would be OOS in 5 seconds if those were web prices.

They'll still probably be OOS in 5 seconds.

I should possible to order online, then go instore and get the discount. That might be the only way to secure one of these.

Or maybe not. Just read its not available online :(

Microcenter did the same thing with the i7 920. In store only and one per customer.

From previous experience, does this sell out quickly usually or if I come in mid-day would I still get one? I'm not sure if I have to wake up early to make sure I get it or not.

I'm afraid driving round-trip to my nearest Microcenter would nullify the rebate in gas. Good to know the 9th is the confirmed date though.

Dang... it's a 1:20 drive for me to the closest MC in Cinci. It would suck if they were sold out.

Oh well, going for one anyway :D

the sharonville (cinci) MC is only @20mins for me. I'm working that day but I'm sending my GF to get my 2600k! :)

They're not. I work at a Fry's, the margin on processors is stupid thin. I promise you MC is selling them at a loss.

Yes we will. The official policy changed in December. We match the Internet at large now, as long as it's a respectable retailer (no eBay, no Amazon Marketplace, but Newegg/Amazon/TigerDirect etc).

Nice! Well it surely worth shot given that ill be 15 min from a frys on Sunday and about 2 hours from a mc.

F-ing sweet! I thought the online price match policy was just for the holidays but I guess not. I knew the margins on PC parts are slim, sometimes it's a few bucks. The real magin items are the extended warranty/service plans and cables/accessories. Hopefully I can do it at the register instead of having to go back to the CS area.

So, will Fry's pricematch MC's in-store $280 price tag on the 2600K, or would it consider the $369 the official advertised price? I know Fry's has the chip listed at 319.99 in their DB now...

It's not a big deal to me since I live close to both a MC and a couple different Fry's, but it would be nice if Fry's would pricematch in case MC gets sold out or something.

This.

Most likely we'd price match based on whatever you'd be paying out the door.

Do keep in mind that us price matching is contingent on the part being in stock. Essentially a price match is designed to keep you from walking out the door to someone else's store - but if the other store can't give what you want anyway, why should we match it? Essentially speaking.

Haha I feel for you guys - my office is like 5mins from my MC.

As for the policy of the competing store having it in stock - I think that's hilarious. Once MC sells out, come to Fry's to pay more! And then the customer will walk out and just continue to wait for MC stock to be re-filled. Why would the customer want to pay more at Fry's if all they have to do is wait? Sandybridge's aren't going to be scarce like the Wii in 2006.

But seriously the i5 750/e8400 - I bought both of those during the prime of the launch period. MC had a ludicrous amount of stock for the 750's...I wouldn't expect any different for the Sandybridge.

*Ok I will give Fry's some credit - their 750/UD3R deal couldn't be matched by MC. I feel that is one of the things Fry's has one-upped MC in the past...wonder if we'll see similar in the future?

Dragging the wife to MC in Fairfax, VA Sunday morning to (hopefully) pick up a 2600k. I have to go into work (DC) to pick some stuff up so it's on the way anyway.

Well... unless you're actually going to call MC to see if they have it in stock, then you probably wouldn't know anyway, right?

Did anyone print the add out? It seems MC has changed thier page and no longer includes pricing.

That's nuts. I had clicked on my link right before I posted it again to verify. Now it's different. Guess my browser had it cached.

I took a screenshot of the page yesterday and emailed it to myself. I'll try to post it.

I printed it out, whew. As for the restocking price, I think it's only for launch day (Jan 9) unless they can do a raincheck and guarantee the price. Maybe they'll have that page back the day before on Jan 9?

I will be heading to the MC in Fairfax, only 15-20 minute drive or so from Dulles. Too bad I got to order everything else from NewEgg (either that or wait for tax return).

Man I wish I still lived in downtown Chicago...Microcenter was just a few minutes away. Now I'm nearly 3 hours from the nearest one...
