Cyborg R.A.T. Mouse

JUNE!! Jeez that is a hell of a pre-order. I might just cancel mine and come back in June. Oh well. Thanks for the delay Mad Catz.

Ok, straight from the horses mouth I guess.I thought that Mad Catz press release mentioned April, but maybe not.

Yes, that's correct - we hadn't really officially announced a release
date yet. The latest press release mentioned an "expected" launch
during May but certainly nothing as early as April; I guess the internet
rumour mill has been at work, turning supposition into fact!

We've been working hard to get the mice just right, also utilising
feedback from our external beta testers and we now expect to have the
mice out during June. We want to make sure the mice are up to the
standard we (and you!) expect before we send them out into the wide
world, so that extra bit of time should help us make sure that is the
case.

Best Regards

it wasn't a rumor mill, every video you watch on youtube from ppl who saw this mouse at ces or whatever event, had the representatives saying look for the rat7 in march and the rat9 in april.

Yeah, I'm calling BS on the rumor mill thing. at any rate I'm kind of bummed out about it being so far away from being released. But it was just a purchase strictly out of curiosity for the most part. So I don't think I'll die waiting for it. .

All I can say is Amazon's page for the 7 version is full of info. It's weird that it's not coming until June and their pages are complete, but whatever. Come on June. If it's delayed any further than June I will not buy, maybe.

Is there any possibility of a potential firmware fix or is this sensor just borked for all time?

it's just a mouse guys...though it does look interesting..

it may be just a mouse....but take a look at the wirelss offerings right now... not too much. the mamba is still plagued with issues. the logitech mx revolution was stupidly replaced by the performance mx.....idiots. shitty cable connection and refurbs were hitting the streets almost as soon as the retails were. obviously someone screwed up. ms mice pretty much suck so i dont even bother with them. no one else makes a decent wireless rechargeable mouse.....so it would be nice if the RAT performs as well as it looks.

most people use their mouse more than anything else on their computer. to me its just as important as a good psu or decent screens.

you can still buy the mx revolution. There are plenty of good mice on the market. And the thing is made by freaking mad catz. If their remote controllers that I bought for my N64 are anything to go by, it'll work like utter trash.

Ya know I just realized 7/1/10 is frikin July. So if Gamestop is correct on the date it's now July. I'm just gonna cancel it from Amazon. Not even sure I'll buy now. I hate pre-pre launch crap. They should have sat on the mouse until this month and then announced.

yes i am keeping their track record in mind. but sometimes good things do happen. you never know.

you can only buy the mx revolution if stores or etailers still have it in stock. they arent making them anymore. they switched over to the performance mx, which isnt so hot. and that whole idea of having another cord instead of a cradle....retarded.

The days of "Xxxx Company Equals ____ Quality" are over. Every product--and often, even different product revisions--can come out of a different factory in a different country, with different levels of quality controls and materials enforcement. It's no secret that even some of the biggest retailers out there have seen counterfeit product for sale in their own product and supply lines at retail. In today's world, using an example like N64-era hardware to make a decision about a company's current products does not contribute meaningful information. You have to look at each product--each minute revision!--on its own merits. Even customer support isn't consistent anymore. Call the same number twice and you might get different call centers in different countries with totally different standards. Believe me, I've done it. -shudder-

gah, got an update
basically
7-1 rat 7
7-21 rat 5
8-24 rat 9

it won't matter to me since i've always intended to get the rat 7 the date hasn't changed, i really want this mouse, the way you can customize the feel, in fact, this might be my first mouse mod, since i hear all these negatives about the philips sensor and if i hate it enough i'll transplant my razer sensor if i can. (idk how i'll go about that).

Really was looking forward to this "Rat" but found out it has the exact same 5600dpi twin laser Philips sensor that broke on my new CM Sentinel Storm mouse. Everything on the mouse still works but the Sensor. What crap. They better rethink this, or I'm staying away for sure.

I ordered the RAT 7 again from Amazon and I got an email it would ship between July 13 - 17. So, I guess it's delayed some more. Mad Catz better get their act together. I did see that Best Buy has their Eclipse Wireless keyboard. Looks pretty cool.

fwiw, madcatz bought saitek and started releasing pc peripherals shortly after. the rat, imo, is more saitek than madcatz

Completely agree. Mad Catz used to be the third party peripheral manufacturer that made the shitty controller knock-offs for game consoles and were to be avoided at all costs. Now, however, they have completely turned their company around and make GREAT peripherals pretty much across the board now.

Mine has been shipped today

Greetings from Amazon

We thought you'd like to know that we shipped your items, and that this

Mine will be here Tuesday. Hope it was worth the wait.

Edit: just received my shipping notification, it will be here tomorrow.

Awesome, would like to see some first impressions on build quality (I order through amazon too, no shipping info yet)

Maybe they're filling preorders from way back. I ordered June 23rd and it says it should ship sometime around July 13, of course when I'm frikin out of town.

Yeah... I ordered mine back in March

Yeah McKie, I ordered originally back in March too, but I bailed because the release date kept changing. I emailed Amazon to see what's up.

Amazon doesn't stock the mouse they only order it from the distributor when an order is placed. I'm just going to get it somewhere else.

So far so good. I'm about ready to install the drivers and give it a go.
Tell me more about the drivers. Are they as intrusive as Logitech's? Do they have a better interface on the control panels? Logitech puts TWO icons in my tray, which aggravates me.

The drivers are quite simple and not bloated.

So far so good. I just need to get some gaming in.

Non-bloated drivers/software = big plus to me too.

Logitech, take note.

Well, this time I ordered through Amazon, but it's coming from Go Gamer and it's about to ship. Anyway, I'll get it next week. :)

Hey why is it if I spell Go Gamer without a 'space' between the 'o' and 'G' does it put in '++++++++'.

I'm looking to replace my broken Deathadder with this but I've got a few questions for owners.

First, someone mind trying to take the mouse apart to see how easy it is to clean?

The scroll wheel looks pretty easy so far as most of the gunk that normally falls down into the mouse just goes through the hole at the bottom, but what about the mouse buttons?

It looks pretty easy to take apart, assuming that all the screws are visible.

Secondly, how is the sensor on this mouse? I understand that it uses the same, flawed TwinEye sensor in the Razer Imperator so I assume that must mean it has the same problems in the z-axis? i.e. lifting the mouse and setting it down will cause a shift in position of the mouse cursor?

Thirdly, how much room do you have for forward adjustment on the thumb panel? Is this limited by the length of the screw or the wiring for the buttons?

Finally, any problems switching over to it from your previous mouse or other nagging issues?
