The New EVE: Apocrypha

Is there an [H] Corp around still? or one that theres people together? I just started a new account and will be upgrading it in a few days. It would be nice to get into a decent corp and be able to play with some others

@SAW

i did a quick search and came up with this link regarding your sound issues. at least you now have the comfort of knowing you're not the only one... unfortunately, at first glance it doesnt look like theres much that ccp is trying to do to fix the situation right now.

http://www.eveonline.com/ingameboard.asp?a=topic&threadID=1092909

best of luck.

Thanks for the info Bro. Im "kinda" glad Im not the only one. I saw a post in a link at one of those threads, someone was saying they get a sound problem too with the game music turned on, but he said he is almost always using Ventrillo and so he just disables the game music and doesnt have any issues.

That tells me that its not my sound card or drivers and Vent, but is the game music file itself that doesnt like to have Vent on while in use. Honestly, Ive been thinking about turning off the music prior to this problem. Although the music sounds cool, its a bit subtle and soothing, to much so, I end up getting real tired after awhile of playing. I'll just have to add some Slayer and some Judist Priest MP3's and listen to that while I play :)

Thanks again for your effort, I couldnt have done anything without your help :)

Man you guys just can't catch a break.

Tell me about it :). As soon as RA crumbles we've got new enemies knocking on our door. Now that you guys are done with Bob, you're turning some attention on us.

Its all good though, lots of pewpew to look forward to!

Interesting, very interesting. Esp. the very last paragraph
The scandal is not the first to play out in Eve Online. In early 2009 one of the game's biggest corporations, called Band of Brothers, was brought down by industrial espionage.

How VERY interesting......All this makes me want to play the game even more now....The Risk factor of this game is amazingly addictive....to me anyways :)

eh thats what i didnt like about eve ........great risk............no great payoff. if you talley up implants....tech2 fittings........ammo......and gettting podded to boot.

Opinions is what this thread is all about, though I dont agree with your statments, I can appreciate how you feel, as Ive felt the same way about "other" MMO's

The risk factor, the learning curve and the diversity of this game is what appeals to me. To me, its a challenge and its a challenge to over come that challenge as well. There is actual technique to using the skills and the fact that someone who's been playing for over a year can still get his ass handed to him by a newbie of only a few months. I like it and I like it A LOT. To me, its kinda like in my RL job, someone tells me "You cant cut a raised panel on a tablesaw, you have to use a router"....and then with my experience and technique, I cut out a raised panel on a tablesaw and show it to them as their eyes bug out. Its a badass feeling and EVE gives me this feeling :)

wait until you have played eve for a couple of years like i did. you will start to see things that bug you....like all mmos. im not saying its a bad game. but my statement still stands...alot of risk for very little reward. great if your a pirate or in a pirate corp you have .4 and .1 space to roam around in..and do anything you want. i had a carrier and a dread.....that i had to dock in .4 or .1 space........didnt want to dock it in 0.0 because that space could be taken over. i hate undocking a 2 billion isk carrier or dread in pirate infested space. why i mention the great risk no reward. if your not planning on flying caps its your choice.....but they are awesome to fly and yes insurance wont cover the loss either.

I can understand...but 2 years from now, I cant predict. But so far, what you have said just now, to me, is very freaking appealing. Im going to go play RIGHT NOW!!!! :)

If you build up your income, you don't have to worry about it. I have tons of isk, and don't worry about losing stuff. Work on getting investments or alts to make you money, and the "money" issue goes away. It's easy to get alts into carebear alliances where you can make a ton of isk. I have multiple accounts and pay for them all with GTC, so I play Eve for free.

Eve is designed for those who are willing to work at it a little. If you just want to log in and fight all the time and don't have any way to make money, they yeah, the risk vs. reward aspect become an issue.

It's not an issue for me, and I've been playing Eve since day one and loving it.

The reward in EVE is the fun you have playing the game.

Let's take the knothead34's carrier and dread in lowsec as an example. To him it wasn't fun to "work" hard to get enough ISK to buy those ships, just to be afraid to lose them as soon as he undocks.

Is this a problem with the game? Not from where I am looking.
From where I am looking this is a problem with the players attitude. If someone is afraid to lose stuff, then one shouldn't be flying capital ships. Stick to 100,000 ISK T1 tacklers, and enjoy the game, because clearly you are unable to enjoy it in 2 billion ISK ships. That's the solution to enjoying EVE, at least for those who don't want to lose expensive stuff.

I had a discussion on the alliance board about how EVE is being dumbed down to allow more WoW-like players to join and enjoy the game, to in turn boost CCPs bottom line. One of the replies I wrote was:

"Intelligence enters the picture when you do not grind, but you are still rich. Intelligence very much matters in figuring out how to spend the least amount of time for the highest possible ISK return (short of buying ISK via GTC, which is most often the best time-spent vs ISK-gained ratio). Intelligence helps the casual player, which I am one of, to not grind and still effortlessly afford whatever is needed and wanted to enjoy the game."

To which a corp mate, on the alliance forums, replied:

"I have to disagree. As a young player I have no other income [...] than ratting. It's certainly not the most efficient way to make isk. Does that make me a stupid bottom of the line ccp customer?"

I had to let that thread go because I didn't want to tell him in front of everyone else that indeed, it does make him a stupid bottom of the line ccp customer. I assume there's some cultural difference since there's no bottom of the line, but whatever. The point is, work smarter, not harder, for ISK.

Alternatively, if you can't figure our how to rake in ISK, adjust your playstyle to make it fit your means so you can enjoy the game regardless.

Hehe...Welp..Im still playing and learning as I go. Got myself a Crusier (Vexor) and decked it out with Medium sized weapons. Got myself a Level II mission/s. They were all seemingly easy to do, and then, the agent gave me a mission to go out and destroy some rats that were causing havok, so I thought, Hmm, Ok, shouldnt be a problem.

Oyyyy, was I ever wrong about that assumption.

The mission was called Gone Beserk. At first, there were only 6 rats. I killed about 4 of them and then noticed, MORE warped in and these were some heavy hitters too. It got to a point that I was warping in, killing 2 of them, then warping back out just in time before they POPed me. Id go to a nearby station, repair up and then warp back again to try and finish them off. BUT MORE KEPT SPAWNING. The total payout for completing the mission was only 220k, if done within 2 hours.

Well, that was Friday. I kept trying thruout the weekend to complete the mission, but, nope, they just kept on spawning and spawning. I ended up spending several million ISK just in repairs....and then, it happened. I got POPed. Yeap....lost my ship and everything within it. :(

I was about to call it quits on that mission, but I have some friends who I just got to join the game and our game nights are on Mondays, so I thought Id wait and get them to help me out.

We all warp in and we are all doing very well. I had read about this mission on my downtime and read that there were 21 rats that had to be killed. Man o man....but we were doing it and not having to much of an issue.......UNTILL.......

Some dude warps in and instead of having a yellow tag with crossbones, he had a red tag. I got to see maybe 5 seconds of him and then POP.....Did I mention..I had bought ANOTHER Vexor, fully loaded. I managed to get out without being podded, but unfortunately, my friends did not cause as soon as he popped me, he went after them.

All in all, I figure I spent about 20million in repairs, 2 Vexor's and stocking the 2 ships, not to mention, I had given 11million to each of my friends to help them out (as I was helped out early on too).

After loosing my 2nd ship to that one mission and spending so much ISK...I decided to cut my loses and quit the mission....to hell with the standings.

All in all, it was still a cool experience. Wasnt too much fun loosing so much money and not being able to finish the mission, but I still enjoyed it. Its that RISK factor I guess. You just never know. My friends were beside themselves. They couldnt believe what had just happened. We all were a little upset about loosing our ships, but thats part of the game and although we werent too thrilled about it, we still had a good time and were laughing about it later, thinking, yeah...one day, we will do the same damn thing to someone else...as is part of the game. But now, heh, we are all broke LOL. Well, not quite, we managed to get another ship, but we are steering clear of level II missions for the time being and focusing more on trying to make some more money.

One question though......Whats the difference between someone with a yellow tag and someone with a red tag? Is a red tag worse than a yellow tag? Also, how do these people get those tags?

Im looking forward to playing again asap!!!

Heh I know that mission, the L4 version is one of my favorites to do because it has so many BS and lots of loot (at least it used to, it might have changed). It was a very lucrative mission. The trick is you have to kill certain ships in order. You guys probably killed the first four ships in there, but didn't realize that each of those four original ships spawns several more ships. So the idea is you kill one of them and then whatever spawns in while ignoring the other three. THEN you kill another, rinse/repeat. That's how you manage the number of ships that come in. Also though I could be wrong you guys just might be fitting your ships badly, use this as a lesson in learning how to remote rep each other, tank specific shiptypes, etc. Did you check this website before you went in?

http://eve-survival.org/wikka.php?wakka=MissionReports

It's not always accurate and sometimes it's just more fun to not know what you'll be up against. But in your case I'd say get as much info as you can since you're struggling.

As for the tags, red is generally worse then yellow however there isn't anything they could have done other then blow up your rats and maybe steal your mission loot, as long as you didn't do anything aggressive towards them. If you are in lowsec then of course it's all fair game. You get those tags by having negative standing and/or a bounty on your head.

Well... I'm stuck in a wormhole....
Cantonious

Hoorah!!! A cautious capsuleer stumbled into my wormhole tonight, and it took me a good 30 minutes to get his attention, but i managed to finally ring him up. He was kind enough to let me warp to him at the wormhole and provide an exit. I tipped him well and thanked him, and now I can say I've successfully beat the sleepers. I survived with exactly 1110 rounds of ammo left, which was not enough to engage any more sleepers and expect to finish, and I also acquired a total of 57 kills throughout my two weeks. Go-go onboard scanner!

Plenty of hot loots to make it worthwhile, plus it was an excellent adventure!

Time to go demolish some rats!

Just getting into the game here.... Feel like a scrub after reading everyone elses posts... Lol I just got my first cruiser.

Still learning the game, I really like ti so far, and I feel I am ahead of the curve for only starting 2 days ago. Maybe once I get a hang of things I will come back to see if anyone has an opening in their corp for me.

I just started playing last week and so far really liking it pretty deep game and the music is awesome too, me and a few rl buddies picked it up we started with Caldari so if there is any room in some Corp for us let me know in game name is Troubster :)

Congrats Contonious, admire the patience there (and the finding of a "nice guy to let you out" !!) and not taking the easy pod-yourself route, lesson learned with the prober leaving last I hope.

Thats the game there folks, learn .. adapt... profit :)

Were based out of caldari space right now. The main corp had a split and now a bunch of vets from the old corp are trying to build a new corp so they are recruiting all the newbs they can.

Plus itl give me somone to play with as I am usually alone lol.

My in game name is The Warpig shoot me a tell sometime if you guys want.

Maybe I'll be nice and reactivate my account long enough to mail you a hundred million ISK or so, LOL. I got an E-Mail that my EVE account could be reactivated for a limited time (5 days, I think it is) and then they also listed my current ISK balance... 1.7 billion. I don't even remember having that much... maybe 1.1-1.2 billion ISK, sure, but I don't remember being at 1.7 billion!

I'll think about it and let you know if I feel the urge to be incredibly generous. :)

Heh, we were killing anything and everything in no particular order. I couldnt tell you if we are fitting our ships badly or not, give me another month or so and I'll re-comment on that question, LOL. And no, havent looked at that site....but it just became bookmarked though :) And yes, we were in low-sec. .3 to be exact. For some reason, I was thinking that while we were inside of a mission area, we were safe from outside pirates. Stupid me and yes, lesson was very well learned, heh.

I didn't get any email like that... damn. I would get all my shit together one one account (spread out over about 6 characters now... yeah, I was pretty hardcore into it). Total assets are probably about 7 billion or so (includes lots of BPOs, ISK, Ships, fittings, mins, etc. Lots of stuff everywhere.

Can I has your stuff?

so last night i was happily mining away in my new retriever in 1.0 using the jettison technique to dump my veldspar as i countinued to mine whilst my 2nd account was running a trade into Rens anyway after a short time 15 mins or so a cheeky B******* decides they are going to swap out my can for one of theirs, immediatly becoming hostile to me. now i realise i could have shot him fair and square but since my retriever is new i didnt have anything on board to perform this. plus i wasn't sure how quickly he could kill me if i did attack.

how can i protect myself from this? i realise i could load up the drone bay with 4 hornets, but how effective would these be against a Rifter / Stabber?
also if i started to shoot him and he started to shoot back would i be able to tank long enough for concord to appear?

anyway on this occasion forwhatever reason the pirate warped away ( i presume to tempt me into nicking my gear back) i managed to get my 2nd account back from Rens and picked up the entire stash in one load in a (also newly aquired) Mammoth. Of course this made my mammoth hostile to the pirate, however just as he warped back my mammoth warped out back to the station and the pirate gave chase. luckily the mammoth docked before a shot was fired leaving my retriever following shortly behind to watch the hostile pirate circle the station at which point i jettisoned 1 unit of concentrated veldspar sent a evemail to the guy saying F U and docked and logged off for the night ( what a game!!)

any way if anyone could give me an idea as to how effective the drones would be in this situation i would be grateful
and also how long would i stay alive (obviously dependant on the other ship) should i attack with them.

eventually i hope to have two miners filling up buckets that get picked up by the mammoth once they are full. with the profits used to run trade runs thoughout space

Those stories really want me to play Eve. I was usually a carebear in any MMOs (not all can be perfect :p), and would like to try real PvP, not being ganked, griefed or camped on resspad. But before I go into this game, how is actually the gank going in Eve? Any chance actually to get meaningful PvP?

You can do anything you want in Eve. If you go to places that you shouldn't, yes, you will get ganked. But you can find good PVP if you really want it. I solo PVP most of the time, and I get in fights every day. You just have to pick your targets, or get in a gang with some corp mates or something. PVP is more squad based, so you are more likely to find targets in gangs, so you need your own gang.

If I want solo PVP, I usually camp 0.0 entry system in a recon ship with bubbles. I lose the bubbles a lot, but I get a lot of kills as well. It's a blast.

Yeah, I've got research that's been going on for probably a year now... I could go collect the datacores and sell those for a nice profit too, if I could remember which system it is in and get there safely, LOL.

If your assets are spread out that might be why you didn't get the E-Mail. I have enough cash to log on and purchase a PLEX, which is the primary reason why I got the E-Mail (to let me know that PLEXs exist and that I could reactivate and spend that ISK in my account on one to "get started again"!)

Try going to the website and see if there's a promotion going on for a 5-day reactivation... unfortunately I deleted the E-Mail I received about a week ago so I can't reactivate at the moment unless the website has additional information which can assist me. Maybe I can log on my account on the website and it'll be an advertisement/banner item displayable to me? I'll check later.

The only way to effectively protect yourself is to not mine into jetcans.

Concord will NOT appear if you start shooting the thief.

You are legally allowed to shoot the thief if he took ore from your jetcan. BUT given that your retriever can't tank AT ALL, you really don't want to shoot him, he will kill you extremely quickly. What they want you to do is either shoot at them or take "your" ore back out of their jetcan. If you take something from their jetcan, they can legally kill you, and they will.

You have two accounts. Park a hauler next to your miner, jet your ore into a can, and then remove all but one ore immediately placing it into the hauler. Haul to nearest station once hauler is full. Repeat.

Will do and thanks, we should be on later tonight.

I actually added you to my list and was gonna message you last night, but by the time you got on I was like 3 missions away from getting level 2 missions (I know I am a newb lol) and I was too freakin hype to talk lol.

Well, unless someone has a link to the 5-day reactivation (or even a 24-hour reactivation) it doesn't appear I'll be logging in to EVE anytime soon. I deleted my link a few days ago thinking I'd have no use for it. Oh well!

EDIT:

Character: Tytalus Warden
Wallet: 1,747,817,877.97 ISK
Skillpoints: 21,125,481

Woot, looks like I did save the link. :) I'll see if I can get it installed tonight and log on for a bit. Who should I be sending messages to? I'm going to put all of my ships on contract as well so people might get some of those. For those of you who are expecting money/advice/whatever, what system(s) are you in or near? I'm only familiar with Caldari space and a little of Amarr space so if it's exotic you'll have to let me know where you are at!

Tytalus, if you have any Cold Turkey or Divine Opium, I would like those. Thanks in advance.

Those both sound like boosters/drugs/whatever... I never had any of that stuff, sorry. Just ships, some resources, more ships and some cash!

If you're just going all willy nilly tossing cash around, Cantonious wouldn't mind some handouts... :D
