[YourNewCase] SUGO ... 5! GO!

Jamesman32 can you provide a few pictures of your setup ?

Also for SG05 are the PSU holes "stardart" ? I've seen from all the pictures you can use a much longer
PSU if you sacrifice the DVD Drive & HDD Cage.

You can use a longer PSU, but your problem is, you cant use a wider and taller PSU. A standard PSU is a bit wider and taller, and obviously longer, so if you plan on trying to get ANYTHING in the SG05 other than the stock PSU, it'll take some modding. I'll post pics of the GTX260 mod when I get home for you

The stock PSU vs the Seasonic 300Watt... can anyone with both comment on which is quieter?

Power will not be an issue for me, not even sure I'll use an addin GFX card. I ordered a Zotac 9300 itx board and am going to try out the onboard gfx first as this is basically just a computer for my mom&dad.

--edit--

Actually just rereading this thread... not just Seasonic... are any of the alternate PSUs obviously quieter than the stock one?

A PicoPSU if you're not running a dedicated GPU. A 90W or 120W version will suffice for most systems and it frees up loads of room in the case (though you could go much smaller if there's no graphics card going in there, no reason to buy the SG05!).

Actually you make a good point... couldn't you run a pico PSU for the motherboard + HDD's, then run the 300watt for a GPU?

Heh.. you would just have to run the jumper connection to the 24pin (from the PSU) so it starts at the same time... and you'd have 2 power cables running to the computer.

But that's an option for those who want the extra power I guess..

Well, that's one option. I prefer the simpler approach ;)

Meet the product of my evening!

-_- That works too...

How is it even held on?I see no screws attached on the back.

and how big of a heatsink can you fit...

If i decide to keep it like that i'll be drilling holes tomorrow. It's sat on an NT06-E, which was slightly too tall so i messed around with the angles of the heat pipes til it was low enough. There's some velcro cable ties stopping it sliding sideways in to the GPU (that colourful stripe you can see through the top vent) and the PSU's own cables are stopping it slipping forward, they're thick and tied to the case. The CPU is almost 10'C cooler than it was before!

The only difficult part was getting the NT06 back on after lowering it. It wasn't easy at normal height, never mind a good 8mm shorter!

Not sure i'm keeping it like this yet, it's not all rosey. The system is nosier now, either something is amiss or the Corsair is actually louder than that FSP unit that comes bundled. Plus, I don't really see me using it. Thought about upgrading to a 4850X2 or similar but where's the point really? When the next gen comes around i'd be suprised if there isn't something more powerful than that which will work on the FSP unit. It was more of an "I wonder if this will work?" than a practical idea.

I wouldnt call it ugly exactly. Just different. It doesnt excite me but I have no interest in mini ITX but thats just me. Others may find it interesting. If I read the info correctly its dimensions are 222 mm (W) x 176 mm (H) x 276 mm (D) or 8.88" (W) x 7.04" (H) x 11.04" (D). Anyway, another choice for the Mini-ITX fans.

To clarify: the SG06 is a SG05 with another front panel. Nothing else. Body and internals of the cases are the same.

I got the Zotac 9300 Wifi Board, a quad-core 9400. What would be the best HSF for the CPU which fits and keeps it really cool. I think that the stock HSF is not keeping it as cool as possible. Also, is there a way to add a HSF to replace the one that come for the nvidia chipset that would keep that cooler? If i was to add a fan to this build, where would be the best place to add it and which side, top, pci-E side or other side? Also what kind of fan would be best? Is there a better fan I could replace the front one with?

My bad sorry had many tabs open, ok, well there are lot's of threads on this matter here I think a Cooler GeminII and a PWM fan in front are the best bet, check this posts for more info:

Are you overclocking? are you using a discrete graphics card?

I use these fans on many of my builds they are silent enough and go up to 1200rpm, they are enough to keep my lil sugo cool

What did you do to reduce HDD noise?

Being spoilt from my previous P182, the SG05 with hard-mounted HDD makes my whole table buzz. I thought about re-building the P182 mount system. Drill up the screw holes, put the rubber thingies in and use the long screws from Antec. This would soft-mount the HDD, which should reduce vibration. Read/write noise is a different issue.
The problem with my plan is the screw to the front-left, near the case fan. The HDD cage is really tight to the fan there, so I doubt I'll have enough space to use the long screws. Is mounting the HDD on only 3 points fine?

I'm really interested in how others solved this. I already use a "quiet" 1-platter drive (Samsung F1 320GB), but still the idle vibration is intense.

Do you have space to put thin silicone washers between the case/screw? They're like $1 at Home Deephole. I've done it and it works well.

I have drilled the mounting holes of the 3,5" frame open, now the rubber mounting grommets from an Antec P182 fit in there. When I'm home later, I'll report and post pics about how it turns out.

I just soft-mounted the HDD on the rubber thingies from Antec. It is a huge improvement in sound characteristics. The system is still not silent, but the annoying "buzz" from the hard drive is gone and read/write access isn't amplified by the rest of the case anymore.

If you have any possibility to soft-mount the HDD, do it. It's worth it. I'll post the parts I used, don't have them at hand right now. P180/P182 owners will know.

Thought I'd post up a bunch of pictures / measurements... I couldn't find them anywhere else before I bought the SG05 and was disappointed... so now I did them for other people :D

Powersupply Cables
20 + 4pin - 12"
PCI-E - 16"
4pin - 16"
SATA - 12" - SATA - 20" - SATA - 24"
Molex - 12" - Molex - 20" - Floppy - 28"

Front Panel
HD Audio - 14" - AC97 - 16"
USB - 14"
FrontPanel Power/Reset/LEDs - 14"

So if two items are on the same row, they're on the same cable (so there's 3 SATA ports on 1 cable, and the distance is the total length from start of the PSU to the connection)

Then I'll upload a bunch of pictures of the entire thing disassembled in a bit.

Link to Raw 6mp Pictures

Don't feel like making thumbnails or anything -_- I can throw a .zip up there if requested...

I found out you can remove the HDD cage and have a 2.5" drive, or have a 2.5" + 3.5" drive (quite cramped though). It's big enough to fit a velciraptor without the heatsink (in the 2.5" bay).

Does it mean that we could fit a GTX 260 (10.5" length) on SG05?

I just stripped my build back down and tried to fit my GTX260. Like I said earler, it is just shy of 10.5". The GTX260 will go in, but pushes against the cases front too much for my comfort. However, you can make a cut out on the front in the shape of the GTX260's front and I am betting that will allow the 260 to fit. Think it's maybe .25" of space till you hit the black front face of the case and that's probably all you need. Will take my case with me to work on monday and do the cutout since I have no tools at home. Maybe even paint the inside.

I ran my hardware outside the case to see if the stock PSU can handle the GTX260 (had to use a molex to PCIe adapter).

E8500 cpu
Zotac 9300 mobo
GTX260
4B ram
1 WD Caviar Black 1TB HDD
Slim drive
Shruikan heatsink/fan
Vista Ultimate 64

(not running the stock 120mm case fan or any fan except the heatsink fan and vid card fan)

Boots up fine. Downloaded and ran vantage 4 or 5 times back to back, best score was P12072, cpu=31035 and gpu= 10029. Still thinking of getting a higher watt PSU, but don't want one that is any bigger then the stock PSU since I think that will just make cooling the CPU even worse. Saw the 350w seasonic and read that it was bigger. Not too crazy about the Athena MATX psu's but may try one or just work with the stock oneand see how it goes.

No, it is too wide. The stock PSU is just wide enogh to fit with vid cards in, that shuttle psu will go right into the area for the vid card. You can go maybe 1" deeper and maybe a little bit thicker for the PSU, but not wider unless you hae no intention ofusing a vid card...but if you didn't then thee would beno reason for a higher watt psu.. Personally, I can accept a higher watt psu that is a litle deeper but don't want it any thcker/closer to the CPU fan.

Made the cut to fit a GTX260

Was just guessing on how much to cut away since I didn't have the vid card with me. Had to nibble some more out later to actually fit it.

Got rid of the 3.5" HDD holder. Also had to remove the 2.5" hdd older and then cut the optical slim drive holder down so that I could fit a 120x1 radiator, fans and a bigger PSU. I will be using a 2.5" momentus 7200rpm 500gb hdd. At least two spots I can mount it through other means.

The rad wih two 120mmx38mm 100+cfm fan mounted and 120mmx20mm 50+cfm fans to the left.

Turns out I am just a littl shot on enough space to use the 2 38mm fans. I can however, do 2 120mmx25mm fans, 2 120mmx20mm fans with a 25mm shroud on the front fan or a single 38mm with a 25mm shoud. I will probably do the 2 120mmx20mm and shroud.

The Athena 470w psu next to the stock one

The innards look decent and the psu s pretty heavy. I know Atheana Power ha quality isues, but I will see how it goes. Also, they should releasing an 80+ effciency PSU that will be the exact same size as the one I am using here.

The GTX260 goes right up to the front paneling, but it does not bulge it out at all. ....think a GTX285 is same size?

The radiator with a 120mmx20mm fan and a 120mmx25mm shroud...and another 120mmx20mm fan on other end. Most likely how I will set it up. It should fit better then this, the fans are not screwed in and once they are, I will actually get more space and better placement. Also, the PSU cables still need to be cut down to size and sleeved, so it's a cluster in there right now.

I was hopping to use a 355+ pump with XSPC top and it is possible I think, but I am not happy with where it will have to go, so most likely I will just use the Swiftech CPU block/pump http://www.performance-pcs.com/cata...e=product_info&cPath=59_199&products_id=22719 . Still evaluating what to do there. I don't know if this will do any better then aircooled 9300/sugo5 builds, but it is pretty fun to try.

Hey man, it's all about experimenting and having fun. It's cool seeing this attempted regardless. Keep it going!

Yes, Im really having fun with this case. and been doing some SERIOUS mods :)

-installed the thermalright 14 cm cooler.

- 4870 with the artic cooling S1, i have bendt the cooler so its over the top of the card more in the airflow than before.

- Installed d ATX PSU, the gigabyte Odin 800W, it fits just perfect on top of the Thermalright cooler. so its resting there snd i do not need any other mounting than in the back.

- installed a yateloon 14 cm fan in front. because of the videocard I had to put it on the outside, doesnt look to nice but it works perfectly.

- both fans are 14 cm an their tunning on 7V with a 2,5" drive so system allmost silent

didnt manage to get the pics here so just folow the links

I plan to get a GeminII S for this case to replace my Scythe Shuriken. Are there any 120mm fans that can be used with this heatsink, or do I have to run it passively?

After seeing CASCAs mod to fit the GTX 260, it seems that even the GTX 285 would fit since their the same lenght.10.5 inches (267 mm) :)

It will fit the GTX285. Although wheter a 470w athena psu will be enough is a whole nother story and it's not like there is a better option. I read someone put in an ATX psu, but I'd have to see it. Installing a slightly larger micro-ATX, I had to cut down the Slime drive rack quiet a bit and the brief time I took to see about putting an ATX psu I had sitting around...well, was way too much to give up. But maybe whomever did that had a better way then I can figure out and actually made a useful mod instead of the overheating, no slim drive, probably psu in vid card area picture I have in my mind lol

Athena power is coming out with a new Micro-ATX psu. Suppose to be 550watts and 80%+ efficiency and is exactly the same size as the one I am using here. Usually psu's rated at 80+ efficiency are better quality then ones that are not. Hopefully they release around the time GT300's come out as I will replace my GTX285 on my main rig with a GT300 and put the GTX285 in the Sugo5.

Won't fit, I replaced the front fan (it's an 800rpm fan I think) with a 1400 non pwm cooler master fan, and that's enough for my e8400.
