SEMI-Finished on Page2.. A *VBIT* Happier.

Need to vent. Just spent 5.5 hours transferring my Qmicra build to the SG01 build after UPS delivered it at 5 something today. This is just transferring, i didn't even get to sleeve, cable manage or do anything.

The nightmare begins when I begin the mobo swap. The Xigmatek bolt-thru kit's backplate's sticky shit is no fucking joke..Spent 10 minutes wrestling with it until I decided to stick a knife to it and do the twists. Now my mobo has a patch of sticky shit on it because I guess some fucktard at Xigma decided that mobos and coolers are forever.

That's just getting started. As usual with all my builds and many of yours, you stick the mobo into the case with the heatsink right, I mean the NT06 uses a backplate mount so.. Fucking shit. You can't stick the mobo into the case with the cooler on - the goddamn NON-removable hard drive blocks everything - there is absolutely no gap between the board and the hard drive, and the 5.25" bay above is longer than the hard drive cage that adds to the frustration.

Ok, so I get the damn cooler off, get the mobo in there and.. Shitfuck. The cooler won't fucking go in! I remedied this after who knows how long by squishing the NT06 into a ball and then it would finally fit. Yea, you need to fucking compress it to get it inside, how fucking retarded? The CPU side of the case has a long ass piece of metal that retains the PSU blocking it - you can't work through there. The assembly and dis-assembly of this (2 times too) shit takes a while thanks to the stupid thumbscrews that burn your fingers.

Don't fret, I have a shit load more to say about how awful an experience I have encountered. But I am too damn hungry and still need to clean up the mess...

Bottom line - DO NOT GET THIS BULLSHIT COMBO. I thought my Lanbox was a bitch to work with, this combo takes the trophy by a fucking lightyear.

And if you want temps.. "idle" while writing this rant at 2.703GHz 1.264v = 55c. Loading CPUZ took it to 65c at 4.050GHz. Whatever, enough for tonight. Can't WAIT til I get cracking at the rest of what I left out.

The verdict remains the same.. PITA!!! Anyone considering this combo desperately needs to reconsider. The Silverstone logo and DVD writer logo are getting on my nerves..

I'll wait till you're finished with your ranting about the rest of the PC before commenting.

Done for now.. until I start working on it again on Friday and the weekend. Eating is so calming.

I am soooooooooooo glad I returned both the SG01 and the NT06 back to the egg for a refund (less restocking:eek:. I had serious buyers remorse and real reservations about a passive cpu heatsink relying on a power supply to draw off it's heat which, in turn, would make it run hotter and noisier.

I ended up ordering the Qmicra V2 from Frozencpu:D:eek:

Guess we're running in opposite directions, cuz I'm about to get rid of my Q. Easy to work with; just make sure you have some pliers around cuz you'll need them to unscrew the thumbscrews... yea I know roflwtf.

Thanks for the heads up. Honestly, I don't know what I was thinking in ordering this case. I've never spent this much for even a full tower. Oh well, doing my part to support the economy.

Damn dude, that really sucks. I'm going to be using SG03, DFI JR + NT06 soon. I have also always been put off by the passive cooling, but is there any particular negatives regarding the cooler and board? Or just the entire build in general? I'm thinking the latter :)

Other people have put the NT06 into the SG01 case without major hassles before but no one has done it with this new DFI mobo before far as I know. It could be the DFI is more problematic but it could be just Lowtech's bad luck too.

The SG03 is a different case for obvious reasons and it shouldnt be too hard to get the NT06 and mobo to fit in. At least I didnt have too much trouble with my build but I used a P5K-VM mobo instead of the DFI. Just take it slow and easy. I did the cpu and NT06 first and then added the ram and then gently slid the mobo into the case then added everything else.

Be sure to do a pre-fit dry run first to figure out the best plan of action before actually installing evrything. It could save you tons of fustration. And again, take your time. Dont rush it. :)

The JR has caused me much problem with its eccentric CPU placement - too far off to the the edge and much crowded inside. Height of NB screws things up too. Hence AVOID THIS COMBO if you treasure your sanity. This is the SG01-F btw.

Working on the JR is a massive PITA that I've never encountered before - the amount of $ spent just to find coolers that fit, the agony of installation. Having it running is a different story, but getting there.. ugh.

That said.. some positives before I grind it out again in a day or two.
- Video cards run way cool, both cards idling at 28% fan speed (my set minimum) whereas the Lanbox and Q had the inner card running at ~35%-38% idle
- Compact, upcoming pics will show the dif between the Q and this in a desk setting... DAYM, difference much. It's as small as I'll go though, as I'm having trouble properly getting a 3rd drive to fit comfortably/properly.

Lulz, just 2 positives... whatever, took a lot to come forward. And man, the weight of this fugger makes the Q feel like benching with pop bottles.

I told you getting the mobo in would be a bitch but I had no problem mounting it with my NT06E or my enzotech in there. It was a tight fit but I got it in, it's just a pita.

Good luck with the rest of your build. It's not too bad once you get everything up and running I was just not happy with my temps so I sold it off. :D

I wasn't expecting it to be that bad BlueChanell =.=". The motherboard probably has to do with the inability to fit the mobo mounted because the giant PSU rack/guide/bar on the side blocks the NT06 from being placed... would have to snap the board in half to fit it that way. The NT06 shroud is scratch right up against the panel/cover - it actually extends a little tiny bit more than the PSU rail; any more and it wouldn't fit. ATM the temps are high but I'm not too disturbed; won't be running any stress tests though as that will blow it up.

Gonna get back to it after an exam and a heat gun :D Buhbai lighter, hopefully Target has them.........

bummer to hear, but I expect to see another thread next week when you decide that you want to go w/ a different case =P

sorry to hear about your frustrations, I would take your qmicra off your hands as it's been one of my favorite cases to work w/.

looking forward to hearing about your progress in your future posts

Well hopefully your struggles will pay off even more when it is completely done and you'll be more proud of it because you know how hard it was to get it there.

And my Shuttle is maybe 2x smaller in size.. and easier to work with than a Lanbox. Man, I'm now glad I didn't wait for the board when it was announced back in January.

I'll forever curse this trio..

had a nice drive cuz no one at Target knew wtf a heatgun was.. picked up a Milwaukee @ Homedepot for 19.99. "FUN" starts now. Yay...

I don't like the Sugo cases. SG03 remains the best of the worst but the HSF limitations make it a horrible choice IMO.

I just got my LP JR today from ([H] member) Sainrub and will be pairing it with an ES Q9450 + TRUE in the CM Elite 340 case after mod + paint work is done.

LABOR OF L<3VE

To the OP regarding the sticky stuff I am baffled at why he did not try taking a hair dryer to the backplate? Probably would have came off in seconds.

Sticky foam stuff comes off with hair dryer? I'm not a tool guy; gotta send it to the garage when it needs an oil change : \

6:58am now, started working non-stop at 2:11am.. Still work to do - gotta find out how to sleeve SATA cables and wait on more cables and stuffies. Got a heatgun and I am gonna advertise this gadget whenever I can! O and I might have deformed the cover slightly.. too used to the fckin' Q's panel where you have to do the splits with it to yank it off, steel doesn't respond so well I guess.

More whining to add:
- Hard to cable manage! Very few nooks and crannies to hide stuff...
- Some front panel cables are way long...
- Power button is kinda "sticky" you could say..
Nitpickin' beeoching FTW.

Teaser. Just don't expect anything that will even remotely "wow".

G'nite.

lowtechh,

Why did you go from the Qmicra to this Sugo case? Seems like you like a challenge:D
Aside from being cheaper, seems like a real knuckle buster/scraper build for ya.

Not yet g'nite I guess, still hungry.

Regarding cost...
The Q costs $280 incl S/H and take another $40 (+bolt thru) for the S1283, so ~$320
The SG01 + stuffies..
Sub-Total: $257.54
United Parcel Service (1 x 31.00lbs) (Ground): $31.54
Total: $289.08

My gf keeps telling me to stop "downgrading" (my current build was a "downgrade" from my previous AMD 780G X4 w/ 1(one) 4850 a few months ago, which was a "downgrade" from a build w/ a CM Cosmos case earlier in the year...) because it just doesn't work..

I went for the SG01 because I was starting to feel the Q's size (eh, sort of..), wanted something new/different again and quite frankly, I don't like the Q's look which is probably what bothered me enough to toss more money at a failing economy. I justified the switch by calling it a downgrade :D

Lowtech,

what tools did you use to remove the pins from the power headers etc. That is an amazing job.

You deserve kudos.

I think they were referring to just the TIM sticking. Eh well, next time I'll try it if I come across. The sticky crap that's on my mobo now gives a bit more pressure to the HSF since the new backplate sits on it :D

For removing the pins.. I used the smallest flat-headed screwdriver and just raise the "flaps" that prevent the pins from moving. The flaps are in between "AC'97" and the hole/gap.

Results from the night long cabling session on Pg. 1..
Just read up on how to do the SATA power cables, I sense another long night ahead.

I have a concern about a wire.. so I remove the front panel firewire connection because the board doesn't have one (featureless crap, could use an eSATA) but run into this..
SANY0692_085bc.Large.jpg
SANY0694_af0c4.Large.jpg

There's a grounding wire attached to the 1394 cables? What? (Those scratches along with a semi-stripped screw came like that - shipped straight from Silverstone to me. Sonuvafckin.)

Wait, so there is a case that is more of a bitch to work with than the LBL?

I cursed for about 4 hours trying to get all the cables hidden and such, and it still looks like shit. Fuck it, I'm buying a modular PSU for this case or I'm just gonna get a different case.

I used the SG01, it is a pain to work on but I think that also has to do with what he's doing with it and the motherboard, etc.

I got mine put together in about 2 hours but that was also my first build.

Then I got an SG03, more of a pain to work on, but I like the look much more.

Semi-finished! Just waiting on filters, SATA cables and sleeving the rest of the PSU cables.

More complaints
- The PCI bracket needs to be bent and yanked to get the video cards out, or else the DVI connector screw blocks disassembly.
- USB cables still way long...

@mrmylanman, I guess I am a bit happier once this crapper is all done. WTF! I almost said I liked this case!

Here is the

LABOR OF L<3VE
Around ~4hours more added. The audio cable required taking off the motherboard (FCKin" A) to sneak beneath/side of the motherboard/case. If I had left the cable on the mobo like in the last tweak, I wouldn't be able to get the cover on (see how this build has the audio cable disappeared).

Very clean I like how it came out. It's easier to route the wires on that than the one with the hard drive cage facing the other direction if you'll believe that.

Gimme a break, lol.
I've been here all of 40 something days :p

Also, stop building my dream PC :(

Not to be mean or anything but you come off as a dick.

You should try and be a bit nicer to people especially those that have been here a very long time.

Problems w/ me can be PMed. Dunno what you're specifically referring to, other threads or posts or whatnot.
