Extreme Requirements:

Windows Vista (Service Pack 1 required)
Processor type: Intel Core2 Duo E8500 / AMD 64 X2 6000+
RAM: 4 GiByte
10 GByte free hard drive space
Direct X 10 compatible graphics card with 512 MiByte VRAM / Geforce 9800 GX2 / Radeon HD 3870 X2
And that's only at 1280x1024.

Wowsa, Guess its time to get a new card for sure

Didn't think too much of it because it's late......but once I really looked at those specs.....

E8500?
GX2?
1280x1024?

W T F

I saw some beta screens of it. Its looking really nice. Graphics wise better than Farcry2 and good as Crysis but with better gameplay. Looking forward to this game.

Yeah.....specs makes sense.

Note- I have no idea if that is on Extreme or not, but prob isn't.

People were saying games were lagging behind the current crop of video cards....
This might a sign of things to come. :)

Cool, got any of the ones showing daylight lighting effects. Thats where it really shines pun intended.

WHAT ARE YOU BUYING?

4870X2 is looking more and more tempting to me.

Considering I just got another day of overtime...I just might have to bite on it...although those 280 gtx's looks good too...

Fucking decisions decisions

well it depends when your getting it, because right now for vista, people are getting mixed results on preformance, mostly drivers and software wise. But thats most likely to be fixed in the next month or two. As of right now though, i can only get max preformance on XP, and that preformance is WOW preformance. I was able to get an avg. frame rate of 97 on Bog on CoD4 with all in game max and 12x Q AD CFAA 16x AF at 1280 x 1024. So the card is a beast, but currently drivers are an issue.

Stalker does not look one bit as good as Far Cry 2, let alone Crysis. Another game poorly coded to use too much hardware without giving the end user something to chew on. MEH.

Sounds like an Avid Crysis fan.

It's ok bro, we all know that game failed. Hey at least it made a great benchmarking tool! (down with 3dmark!!)

Probably has to do with the fact that it is using "differed rendering", which requires alot more fillrate to do the same job as forward rendering. The benefit however is better lighting if you do it right.

I guess im going to need need another 9800GTX+ and 2gb more memory, to the bank!.

I hope you people realize GSC is made up of about 25 (may have increased since SoC) programmers in a basement somewhere in Kiev Ukraine, without the millions of initial investment money that other game developers backed by their publishers, and they are still able to create a game which could be AAA if it was made by someone else. This is a game developed because the developers wanted to see it happen, and not simply for profit, I hope you people can see that.

Stalker looked amazing and this game looks like a good step forward.
Im like the minimum extreme reqs...
Minus 4Gigs o Ram.

How on earth can 1280x1024 have thoose demands.. its insane not even crysis has that and it looks ten times better and engine is far more advanced then any game engine out there today.

I think this game will be just as bugged and broken as the first, and terrible support from patches.

ROFL no way in HELL do these screenys look better than crysis. Either the extreme settings are just complete BS or we have the most unoptimized game EVER made. I am seriously look at the SS below and look at the foliage. COD4 foliage looks WAY better than this crap. Even the lighting is the same in COD4

QFT.

I DO think the lighting and environmental effects are superior to Crysis, however, the modeling and texturing doesn't have the same realistic quality to it. It seems almost dark and muddled in STALKER compared to Crysis. Almost like Crysis and Bioshock had a child.

this doesnt surprise me at all. i cant even run stalker with any kind of lighting on a 4800x2 with a 1950xt, even at 1024x768. i think i barely break 15fps or so.

I have no performance issues under Vista but I guess it's hit and miss, eh? I can't wait for this game, I started the original last week just to go through it again before Clear Sky.

PS: Guess I need to upgrade to 4 gigs finally.

I've been playing Stalker:CS the last few days, and to tell you the truth those requirements are cutting it *very* close, even for 1280*1024.

Running at that resolution, with everything maxed( 16xAF, but 0xAA ), the game is, in many cases, running in the low twenties( it varies alot based on location, and whether it's clouded or not ), sometimes even less. This with a 3.8ghz q9650, 8gb ddr3 and an oc'ed 9800GX2. The option to 'enable sun shadows' simply kills the FPS completely, and of course this is the option that really makes the game look great. Disabling this option seems to basically double the FPS, but makes it look like the old Stalker just with a little more detail.

On the other hand, the CPU doesn't really seem important.

It looks like they added wrinkles and bumps to textures that really didn't need them, just for the sake of "ultra" detail. I'm not too impressed.

Well looks like i'll need a few things.... ram, video card, and vista =/. Sounds like a pretty big upgrade to me. I hope it scales well to quad-cores because I'm sure as hell not replacing my processor.

All those reqs for THIS?! AT 12x10?! Oh man, where are the people who say Crysis is poorly optimized now? Come out and say that now with a straight face.

DX10 will cause half the performance hit. Why bother with Vista and DX10? I'm sure this game will look great in DX9 and will run alot faster. I dont mind missing some eye candy for smoother framerates.

I call BS, the game is SEVERELY lacking in visual appeal to require those settings, and, AT 12x10?

Holy shit, I thought crysis was a piece of junk.

Stalker with Float32 and Sharper textures probably renders the best looking indoor scenes that I've witnessed in all my years of gaming, It's breathtaking.

This is just to make you upgrade, its a business. Developers get money, video card companies get sales, you scratch my back, i scratch your back.

With full dynamic lighting even the base STALKER looks stunning on indoor scenes while outside looks pretty dull. Crysis and STALKER are complete opposites. On high and/or very high settings Crysis is stunning outside but almost laughable looking on most indoor scenes especially all the huts.

I love how people get all pissed off, when a brand new game, that they don't even own, that when fully maxed out doesn't run at anything under 60 fps on a 8800GS. ITS A PC GAME! its called the options menu, turn shit down. No one here I don't think is a game developer, yet they know the difference between something that is "optimized" and something that isn't. As I stated earlier, this game uses deferred rendering as opposed to forward rendering as with crysis and pretty much everything else. The upside is better lightinng, the downside is a higher fillrate requirement, and no hardware AA unless using DX10.

Not every game is half life 2 and had 20+ million dollars to spend on its development, you guys need to chill.

It might be somewhat dull, but Stalker goes for a very different outside look than Crysis does. Crysis features a tropical island full of colors and plant life, which is sort of the opposite of what Stalker wants.

The 'dull' outside look is more a question of level and art design than anything else, and personally I think it's fitting, considering the location.

The XRAY engine is amazing engine. I used a "realism" shader mod when I played the original STALKER and the lighting looked real, it was unbelievable. I'm really looking forward to see what they've done with the engine, especially in DX10.

I'm ordering it on Steam as soon as it's available.

I will do the same if there isn't a "specal edition" of the game in box somewhere, like the last one had with a map of "the zone" wish I had gotten one of them.
