Stalker Extreme Settings...wowsa

People are missing the point of STALKER entirely. It's not about the "best" graphics, it's about the "best" gameplay and depth of play. I you played one FPS on rails, you played them all. Sure add a new weapon and some physics and HL2 is the be all end all.

What is Crysis but a technology showcase just like Doom 3?

Don't buy STALKER if you want graphics, buy it if you want some substance and realism in your gaming diet.

You sir are 100% correct.

Crysis has great graphics, no doubt one of the best out there. But its just a showcase like doom3 was.

Stalker with DX10, and even better graphics then the original just appeals to me.

There was nothing like down in the sewers, hearing something walking about making noises, and you cant see the fucker, man had freaked out quite a bit. (then you only see hit lil yellow eyes lookin at you when we spotted you).

Cant wait for Clear sky.....Now I want to see some benches etc on a 280GTX.

O and some 1920X1200 love damnit!!!

Because he's a fanboy?

I enjoyed Crysis's story and gameplay and I like STALKER just as much, that's my opinion, but notice how I don't go off on a temper tantrum to state it.

Btw Kowan, nice bike :D

Who went off on a tantrum? I'm not the one posting "rolls eyes" after stating the obvious.

What does me stating that you can't have both have to do with me bieng a fanboy. If i was a fanboy I would be defending STALKER as having both, which I am not. But I admit I love the game, and fully support the development team so that maybe they will make more games.

While Crysis has a good story (even one done several times before), story does not equal gameplay. STALKER lacks in the story department as well, at last SoC did, but again it has no impact on the mechanics of gameplay, the story was just sufficient even if it was creative.

First time down in the sewer right? I remember that moment. The one that hit me most though was right before you get out of the first sewer where the mind controlling creature takes control of your camera and brings it way forward. Scary shit first time around.

well why dont you and vick1000 just go ahead and make out then. lol. just because you agree with him doesnt make him 100% correct as you say. there are way more people that liked Crysis then hated and the same goes for Doom3. also since when was Doom3 a tech demo or showcase? I remember it being a 20-25 hour game that wasnt that bad at all. ;)

All he said was that he agrees that Crysis and Doom 3 are more graphical showcases than anything, which isn't that far from the truth... Doom 3 wasn't as good as people hoped it to be (remember how hyped up it was and there was a LOT of people who expected to be superb, they were disappointed).

although I found it frustrating at time, I really liked STALKER also. the point of this thread seems to be about graphics and nothing needed to be mentioned about gameplay because we already that is important. there was also no need call the other two games tech demos just because you didnt enjoy them. again the point is most people wont to have a chance to crank up the graphics and make the new STALKER game more immersive.

I just needed some damn duck tape for the flashlight in Doom3! :D

I hope this game is scary. Nothing like playing with the lights turned off, headphones on and something appearing right behind you.

Where are you getting all this "hated" crap from. I never said I hated Crysis or Doom3, I just said they are tech demos, which they basically are. A 25-30 hour tech demo is still a tech demo, once you walk into a room and something jumps out of the dark at you, you played the whole game in that instant (Doom3 that is).

Crysis having marginal freedom was better, but you still were essentially on rails because of your objectives. The big difference is having the interaction with your environment and having to use more skills rather than just "can I shoot that target enough times before it kills me".

STALKER is just in another genre compared to Crysis and Doom3 (or any other cookie cutter FPS). Hell, Timeshift and FEAR have more innovation in gameplay than Crysis.

Amen, first time I went into X18 I was creeping around every corner like
I hope this game delivers just the same :).

Thanks. Both bikes get comments, but the new one is a work of art. :)
I can only comment on the Rocker, just saw one on the floor (went to the shop to get new hand grips), amazing bike :).

Doom3 had a lot more than just monsters jumping out. when I hear comment like that I have to wonder if you actually played the whole game. as for Crysis I enjoyed it up into the snow level started and then it was boring linear and basically a completely different game then the first half. In fact I turned on some cheats just to get through the last part of the game because it was so uninteresting for me. I know we all have our own impressions and feeling about games but I try not to ever express my opinion as if it was factual.

Wow man I never said I didnt like Crysis...instead of trying to flame back and forth, im just going to ignore you.

all I did was say I agreed with him on the doom3 comparison....you need to chill the fuck out

yea that freaked me out bad as well, I didnt even wanna mess with that guy, so I just went up and left him alone LOL

lets please keep the flaming etc to a minimum. This is not about Crysis VS Stalker Clear sky

This is about Stalker and its extreme Settings!!!

Any pics and Video's from people are more then welcome :) (specially at 1920X1200!!!)

Thanks

well I was just kidding with you thats what the lol was for. now it seems like you are lying though because you clearly said it was just a showcase like Doom3.

And I agree it is a showcase, Doesnt mean it isnt a great game.

I was playing doom3 first day it was released, I waited at Gamestop at noon release day, so I could play it.

I downloaded Crysis on EA downloader as soon as it came out.

both are great games, specially graphics wise......But either way its a showcase to show off graphics.

Are you thinking, since people say its a showcase that the game was aweful?...cause you need to get that outta your head.

When doom3 was released, no game could even touch it on graphics, and the hardware could barely push it at the time. Same thing happened with Crysis.

Just chill a bit man, no one is knocking Crysis....But its a true thing, thats it no more then a Benchmarking tool nowadays, And thats how Doom3 ended up.

Now Back on topic. STALKER FTW

Speedy, do you think you can take some shots of areas that were in the original (i.e. Cordon, Garbage)? I want to see how much it's improved. Thanks.

hmmm so you can go back to old places from the original stalker?....o man yes SS those for sure!

I hope this game is scary. Nothing like playing with the lights turned off, headphones on and something appearing right behind you.

haha in the little i've played so far, it wasnt rally scary, since no elements so far actually could be. but the only part that made me jump was when i was walking through the grass towards the marker and a shotgun shell went off next to me :D

a couple things haha,

1) are those places in this prequel Stalker?
2) where would they be?
3) i stopped playing at a part where im gunned down by a turret a cant get past lol. i tried twice but had to go finish my hon english book, so i stopped.

Also i poseted a 2nd vid up a couple hours ago, heres the link http://speedy523.blip.tv/file/1220583/ :D

Also, people have said the frame rate looks bad and quality isnt great etc, and i know, in game its a lot better and fraps by itself screws up frames and after uploading, the site converts the vid to flash like youtube, so quality drops, haha

I see they lowered the difficulty. :p

Theres no way you could have gotten away with that style of combat in the original game. I played the original on easy and still died a shitload of times.

haha no, im on novice aka the lowest difficulty :D and to beat that area i had to play serious and sneak around and pick 'em off one by one even on novice :)

Stalker Clear Sky consist of about 50% of the areas from the first game, after all, it's set in the same zone. I don't know where they would be since I haven't played the new one. Be on the lookout for names like Cordon, Garbage, Wild Territory, Red Forest.

PS: Nice vid speedy. The game looks good (the weapon models are much better, like the PM pistol). I'd recommend playing it at least on normal difficulty. Part of the Stalker's charm is that a couple of shots usually kill you (until you get better armor/artifacts later) so it forces you to use tactics and not just run and gun. Also take more time to aim at the target. It helps a LOT in this game.

PPS: I think I may want to pick up the Russian collector's edition instead. Hmm...

Yea those gun models look alot better.

1 thing I noticed was the amount of Pistol ammo he had...i remember in the beginin being very select on how much i shoot so I wouldnt run out.

Hmmm steam still says the 6th, 1 can only hope

I always had excess pistol and shotgun ammo except for in the very first area. I was always down on rifle ammo though so I had to pick my shots. I'm not in a huge rush to get it since I'm replaying the original right now. Just got through with X16/Lake Yantar (my favorite area before Pripyat).

Do you have the 8800GT right now or is that what you're upgrading to? Because the GT should run the original pretty much maxed out.

Wow, I just read through 8 pages of the thread. I am a HUGE fan of STALKER and just can't wait to play the CS.

To answer the previous post, I ran the original all maxed out @1680x1050 on my old 22" Westy and single 8800GT. Since then I have upgraded to 28" Hannspree and had to get another 8800gt to SLI in order to play it maxed out @1920x1200.
I fear, that my setup will not be enough to utilize DX10 in CS, though.

As for Crysis vs. STALKER:CS, well I haave played Crysis and the original Stalker and to be honest I don't care much for the candy-colored graphics of Crysis. The game is almost boring and frankly never kept my ineterest for longer than 30 minutes at a time. The engine is great and physics are nice, but overal I prefer the artistic approach of STALKER and the non-linear storyline.

STALKER FTW !!!! lol

DK

It was fine on a 22 at 1680,

But at 1920, I did have to turn sun shadows (if I remember correctly)

Anyway No idea which card I want to buy, but Since iv been reading about the AMD mobo's making the X2 Black Editions overclock like never before, I might go ATI with this http://www.asus.com/products.aspx?l1=3&l2=149&l3=789&l4=0&model=2503&modelmenu=1

Damn badass mobo's :)

Probably has to do with the fact that it is using "differed rendering", which requires alot more fillrate to do the same job as forward rendering. The benefit however is better lighting if you do it right.

I guess im going to need need another 9800GTX+ and 2gb more memory, to the bank!.

I hope you people realize GSC is made up of about 25 (may have increased since SoC) programmers in a basement somewhere in Kiev Ukraine, without the millions of initial investment money that other game developers backed by their publishers, and they are still able to create a game which could be AAA if it was made by someone else. This is a game developed because the developers wanted to see it happen, and not simply for profit, I hope you people can see that.

+1. very well said. Its the main reason i would buy this game. To help GSC, because they have the balls to do what 98% of all developers wont.

Just wanted to add. Im replaying stalker now since i upgraded my system and im able to run it on max. The interesting part is that pretty much all missions im doing right now are totally different from the first time that i've played. Its like im playing a new game! Great gameplay!

Yea, just make sure that you get the SB750 ones, not the SB600. I have an SB600 and it's not bad when overclocking the Athlon X2 BE, but I hear it's not that good with the Phenom X4 BEs. I went with an all-AMD build just because I'm tired of using Intel (I built about 6 PCs in the last year with Intel CPUs, including one with a QX9650) and don't like what Nvidia is doing right now (UMAP, and having developers remove DX10.1 support because their cards don't have it i.e. Assasin's Creed).

Don't forget there's like six or seven different endings to the game. There's a lot of re-playablity to Stalker.

I've been waiting for CS for months. I hope it's at least as good as the first.

haha id be on the lookout for those names if i could read them when i see them :D Anyways, i found the camp in which you start off in the original STALKER. I took 13 pics, mostly the camps and buildings showing the model detail and the amzing shadows. i also took pics of that liitle part underground with the guy. Im uploading them now :)

The atmosphere is also amazing, like you here birds chirping and the wind, etc. Really immersing, i dont get how the games getting bad reviews...

It seems like you definitely have to see the game for yourself. Those screenies aren't that far off from the original. At least that is how I feel anyway.

Add more pics of a sunset/storm, the pics visuals look amazing IMO http://tinypic.com/useralbum.php?ua=...%2FCqWCg%3D%3D
