Bioshock changes.....2K listens!!!

I think I just came up with the most effective anti-spyware method in existence!

Multiplayer.

As much time and money it costed to get SecuROM into the game, they could have just as easily spent that money into coding a multiplayer aspect to the game. How many people do you see pirating Guild Wars and Counter Strike:Source?

The online play would have to be worthwhile and not simply tacked on. Not sure if Bioshock is a game for multiplayer either, even if the dev team put many dedicated hours into it. Then again, I have only played the demo.

I was never affected by any of these "problems" but it's awesome that 2K games is actually taking the time to fix these issues, rather than telling the PC community to fuck off, which I expected them to do.

Same here, all these fools whing about it,should just STFU,and play this great game, and stop worrying so much, but then theres no drama in that, and one cant shit disturb on a 2K forum over nothng, nah that makes far too much sense....

How come my runs smooth as silk then?

You're probably used to using it then. Most people don't turn it off because its usually on by default. Its even on by default in Windows XP.

But if you really want to argue that its the hardare, I have a Razer Deathadder.

Neither one of those is a good example. With CSS, there is no Single Player aspect at all. I am sure its possible to get around steam and whatnot and pirate CSS, but it would be a lot of work, easier to buy. With Bioshock, someone could just as easily not give a damn about the multiplayer and just pirate it for the single player, which is now that much easier because SecuROM isn't in place. Likewise, with Guild Wars, of course people don't pirate that, it's not very fun :p. Sarcasm aside, Guild Wars is not the uber hyped, blockbuster hit that Bioshock is. Less demand = less strict anti-piracy measures.

Some people own 800/1600/2000/2400 DPI mice because they like them sensitive when they want them to be! Why is it when you dont want your mouse to be extremely sensitive (in Bioshocks case) you have to hope you bought a Razer or Logitech mouse so you can adjust DPI on the fly, or else you gotta go all the way into your control panel and manually decrease your overall mouse sensitivity. Major PITA.

I've decided that there's no point in arguing this. It's a personal preference type thing. That's why there are different setting. Maybe the people complaining are use to slow responsiveness and not used to BioShocks settings. I can't tell you. Unless these people can post a fraps video of the mouse sensitivity in action the complaint must be thrown out. If something can't be replicated in some case for someone else what can you do?

Bioshock is just a super sensitive game, I tried playing it at 1600dpi at a sensitivity of 1 in the game and it still was to twitchy for me so I lowered it to 800dpi and a sensitivity of 2, worked a lot better but I have a MX518 that has on the fly adjustment so it's really easy to switch back and forth.

1600dpi? Seems kinda high imo. Listen, I'll do this. When I get home tonight from work I'll leave the Bioshock setting at the default, which is 3. and I'll switch my DPI on the fly in game and see what happens. Now I guarantee when I hit 2000dpi it'll be too fast no matter what.

But again to the guy who said "not everyone has dpi on the fly," Wtf mouse are you using so I can see wtf the specs are?

Razer's are way to senstive by default imo. I have a friend who has one. I tried using it once, waaay to sensitive.

Yeah my mouse is at 1800dpi and even at a sensitivity of 1 I can do a full 360 while moving the mouse an inch or two.

I'll try lowering the dpi and see how that goes

That's patently absurd. My car has a dashboard rattle, and I occasionally complain about it. Is such a complaint invalid because I don't have a video of it?

Jesus Christ, man. An infant could see past such blatant, nonsensical garbage.

And, for the the record, this has absolutely nothing to do with sensitivity. BioShock uses some sort of acceleration feature that, as far as I'm aware, cannot be disabled. That is the issue.

Your car has a dashboard rattle? That's cool. So if you wanted someone to experience that they could just sit in the car right? So how am I or anyone else trying to diagnose a problem supposed to experience a mouse acceleration that I do not experience? Take your word for it? I think not.

So, can you prove that it's a feature? Before you say anything I'm not all over the 2k forums so if there's anything there about actual proof. You'll have to link it.

WE DON'T NEED PROOF. ANY MORON KNOWS WHAT MOUSE ACCELERATION DOES.

Calm down dude. You do understand that it is responsibility to prove the issue right? Can you provide me with any valid information other than "my mouse moves too fast it's bioshocks fault."

If you have a link of some 2K acknowledgement I would love to see it. How do you expect them to patch something THEY cannot recreate? You do know that's how troubleshooting and patching works right? You get some feedback like the crybabies have been giving. You attempt to recreate the issue in order to understand why it's happening and how to fix it. If you can't recreate it wtf are you gonna do? Go off patching random stuff?

If this is something 2K has actually put in the code (which anyone has yet to been able to show me proof of) then that's different. But I await your research results.

I think the installing 5x's thing is bullsh!t. its like saying "If you buy the game your screwed, but if you Get a pirated version you can install this game as many times as you want".
i bought it yesterday, and i only found this out a few hours after, i was like Sheesh!,
Bad move on that department.

Just go google mouse acceleration if you want proof. I'm not taking anymore time to prove that they have it set to ON in the game.

the people trolling about how "their mouse works fine" probably never set it up properly anyway and have been playin with acceleration in every other game and dont even know it. People that play with 1:1 mouse movement are fucking pissed that 2k is forcing this crazy acceleration on us.

My mouse is set exactly how I need it to be. In every game its exactly the same with some minor tweaking. My movement is smooth and responsive, and goes exactly where I need it to go.

This whole mouse thing intrigued me enough to go over to the forums and check to see what was going on. Seeing as how a simple request was being ignored. Shiznit claims that he needs his mouse to go the same distance every time no matter what rate his mouse is moved. To me seems absolutely ridiculous and doesn't make any sense. But whatever.

im not the only one that plays that way, ask some CS pros. i think you are one of those people who thinks DPI=accuracy and never disabled acceleration in the first place.

Dude go into your mouse control panel and uncheck mouse acceleration. What is going to change is your mouse will only move according to the distance your mouse moves. It won't accelerate the quicker you move your mouse.

Anyone that has played any sort of FPS in a somewhat competitive environment knows you NEVER use mouse acceleration.

i didnt know acceleration was such a mystery lol, how can you guys even compete using it i have no idea.

Its a sad day indeed. Not because of 2K games and their use of copy protection, or the widescreen/4:3 issue, or the mouse acceleration.

Its a sad day because of threads like this, which have popped up all over the internet. Half the posts are from people who believe their human rights have somehow been curtailed by how many concurrent PC's the game can be installed on, and refuse to accept they have to uninstall it first. The issue will probably affect 0.1% of the people who buy the game. A lame reason to moan in my opinion. Really lame.

This game has been rated >95% in the majority, and it is claimed to be the game of the year, yet people still dont wanna buy it for petty reasons. YES, they are petty..no matter how much you moan. Its their loss. Their utter loss. If the issues matter so much to them, it speaks volumes of their character. Go buy yourselves 360's and tune yourselves out of PC gaming, as IP protection and restrictions/rental rather than buy agreements are going to get all the more typical on the PC. If you are sensible, honest, and have an ounce of common sense, these so called restrictions wont cause you any grief at all.

Me personally.. bought the game. Not problems with widescreen at 1920x1200. I understand the devs designed the view for widescreen. Only 4:3 users get a little extra field of view at the top and bottom. Good for them. They get a little bonus for once. But we widescreen users arent exactly missing out! The activition issue doesnt affect me, and so far, after 3hrs gameplay the mouse issue doesnt either, although Im skeptical thats actually an issue at all.

Wooo hooo.. Im actually enjoying this amazing game. How is that possible with all the whining that is going on ? Im reliably informed that if Elvis were alive today... he'd be playing Bioshock right now :D

If you are sat at home sulking, posting on threads like this that you are never gonna buy the game then boo hoo. You missed out on the game of the year. Missed out.............

If you're talking about the mouse properties in control panel called and the option "enhance pointer precision" then I just checked. Guess what? It's not enabled. Checked my SetPoint settings and guess what? Pointer Acceleration is disabled. I USED to do the whole FPS online thing a lot and was always top dog. Apparently I had the setting off (imagine that) and never even noticed. Probably because my mouse was always exactly how I needed it.

Edit: Speed and Acceleration setting in SetPoint are set to OS implementation

"Enhance pointer precision" = acceleration, disable it. Then download the CPL mouse fix and install it, you should be acceleration-free in every game... except Bioshock.

I don't like DRM. I've had to buy 2 copies of half life 2 due to their funky DRM/activation bs through valve. And I almost had to buy 3.

The first copy I bought via steam, and didn't write down a serial #. When I reformatted, and logged into steam, the game was no longer there or avaliable to download. I was pissed, I emailed steam, and got no response. Finally a couple of weeks later I gave up and purchased a boxed version of the game. About a year later I built a new computer, and again, reformatted. I hadn't played in a while.. and forgot my steam password. I could have the password emailed to my email account.. however the email account linkted to steam no longer existed. So what did I end up doing? I emailed steam a few times, and didn't get a response. I called them, and then had to email physical pictures of my box, and my cd-key in order to show I actually owned the game and this was my account.

Talk about ridiculous. Stuff like that is why I am weary to buy any non-console games anymore.. I've heard great things about bioshock, but I'm not going to run out and buy it just for the sole reason that it sounds like it'll be a hassle and cause problems at some point. lazy American ftl.

the problem is cross-platform. games that are designed from the ground up for the pc dont usually fuck up the essential things, like mouse control.

well supposedly there were two different teams working concurrently on each platform

one of which is retarded. listen to the podcast about the PC version, they go on and on about the "tight controls" and how it meets all the standards set by the big shooters on the pc. They can't even get the mouse control right! and the person in the main team who decided to use a 75 degree FOV for widescreen is retarded too.

with all the issues with game it makes me wonder if they even play tested on various machines. these are just some of the things I have noticed myself and from others:
1. mouse issues
2. game install problems
3. securom issues
4. audio cracks, pops and sometimes complete lack of sound
5. no AA in DX10
6. cant change refresh rate
7. various low textures even on high settings
8. black squares reported by several people
9. widescreen issues
10. game conflicts with things like processor explorer and other legitimate software
11. jiggly ai.....bodies and some objects keep jiggling or twitching for no reason

My anus is bleeding
did this happen to you?

Bioshock installed fine on my system. Had to activate it. A small hassle but it went right through. The main issue for me is no AA. It would have been nice to include an AA & AF slider in the game setup. Have not had any audio dropouts.

I just read all 8 pages, and my head hurts, this shit is just too much. I wanna play a good game, *cries* CRYSIS!

Just give it a couple weeks and the problems will be taken care of. I never buy a game when its first release because of stuff like this.

It's actually a great game. Everyone is just being emo.
Well there are plenty of problems but this is not uncommon for pc game release. I have been on the 2k forums for a couple days and it is a free-for-all shit fest. It is basically unmoderated and most threads go straight to hell. I have even seen porn being posted. I have helped at least 10-15 people but its hard with all the crap going on over there. About 20% of the people complaining dont even meet the minimum requirements.

Im arguing with some idiot that keeps telling people that 2600pro is a better card than the 8800gts. Ive posted benchies and everything but he says his 2600 is overclocked and more than twice as fast as other cards. The sad thing is he is being serious and says he his a computer tech. I guess I need the entertainment since its Saturday night and Im bored anyway. :D
