Read Shacknews tonight.
2K developed the 5 by 5 plan today.
You can install the game on 5 computers total.
You can reinstall 5 times on each.
A patch is coming that allows you to remove a machine from the total of 5 if you change out a comp, much like iTunes.

2K is patching widescreen officially. For now there is a hach on widescreengamingforums.com

Shacknews article:http://www.shacknews.com/onearticle.x/48621

how bout no activation since its a fucking single player game...? lol

I was never affected by any of these "problems" but it's awesome that 2K games is actually taking the time to fix these issues, rather than telling the PC community to fuck off, which I expected them to do.

Oh gee, we can install it 5 times now, what a bunch of swell people over at 2K

Ditch the DRM, then we'll talk.

at least this shows they are listening, i am sure %90 of the people who buy this game wont ever install or reinstall more then 5 times and the maybe once they do , will take 1 phone call / email to fix.

I'm thankful for their responsiveness in the end, and decision to officially support widescreen. While it should have been done correctly in the first place, it is rare that companies respond in a manner other than EA's "OMG IF YOU WANT THIS YOU MUST BE A CHEATER!!!!!" method nowadays.

I bet the activation malarky is to make it more hassle to use the boxed version so people will prefer to purchase the game via steam.
That saves them a lot of money on disk manufacture, packaging and shipping.
Not to mention that shops and distributors get their slice of the cake too.
Granted Steam will take some $ but still huge savings.

They probably love the fact we hate the activation system!

Sounds like a fair compromise to me. I've never had any problem with the way iTunes does things. Or Steam for that matter. Guess I'm an anomaly, though.

True widescreen support = teh win.

How could they build this game without true widescreen support? Have they not been paying attention to what gamers buy.. (huge widescreen monitors 20+")?

Still glad there's inevitably going to be a crack. I don't want companies trying to lock me out of a game I purchased at all. 2 times, 5 times, doesn't matter.

agreed. if i purchased the game i'd wouldnt want any problems or hastles what soever. i really don't like this idea of only installing 5 times max.

you can install it as many times as you like as long as you officially uninstall it every time you will never use up your 5 installations. of course you cant have it installed more than 5 times at once. its stupid but not as bad as some of you make it sound.

Did either of you even bother to read the article?

Under the new terms, users will be able to install the game on up to five computers, with the ability to reinstall the game on each computer up to five times. 2K will release a "revoke app" that should address issues resulting from the original limitations.

what's next? you go to buy a movie and can only put it in a maximum of five computers five times each? this is fucking bullshit and i will use a crack when it is available as well as thinking twice before i buy anything that 2k touches. how is it so damn hard for them to pop their heads out of their asses? who is being punished here? the paying customer is and it's bullshit... i'm sure there are people that will be pleased with this news but this is insulting and ridiculous.

"oh thanks so much for listening and being reasonable people 2k" - give me a break guys. they bite the hand that feeds them (ie. you) and you thank them.

Umm grow up.. Be thankful they are even giving you this "patch" They dont want to lose money. I will honestly say , I can get any game from using torrents for free with a CD key along with that torrent. They want to limit this solution. SOOOO IMO.

You are the type of person to rip off a company over and over and over again, and are you the one losing money? think about it KID. They are doing this for a reason. So please when you post, dont flame on a company for not trying to go bankrupt over fucking morons like yourself who "cry" when they cant install over and over and over again.

Why would you need to install this game more then 5 times? how many god damn times do you format? i mean none of my buisness but WTF? your post and people that make these types of posts are truly beyond pathetic.

If i was the owner of 2kgames. Yes ide probably do the same thing.

SO GJ for 2k games for giving us the advantages of installing 5 times over the 1 installation. Just in case I do decide to format I will have opportunities not to worry .

They should have it on an engine like "steam" which remebers your information and not have to worry about abusing serial keys.

My opinion.

How about they fix the evil faggoty fucking mouse acceleration?

QFT.

i have my mouse on 75% of total DPI, and I run at 1.0 mouse sensitivity in steam.

For bioshock I have sensi 1 and 25% total DPI :\

What can i say im cal. When you go league, you rarly need to turn quickly. If your good, he should come around that corner and already be on your crosshair

and regarding the widescreen issues: I feel that was blown way out of porportion too quickly, but I also believe that considering its such an easy patch to make, it should have been here as soon as the first person peeped up.

first off, talking about [possibly] downloading a crack ASAP is kinda... umm... not a good thing to do on a public forum.

Next, I'd adgree the current state of content protection is laughable, but regardless, you need some sort of protection. In the movie biz, its not the actors, nor the producers, nor the directors who suffer from pirating, its the camera guy, or the lighting effects guy, who lose thounsands of dollars a year --out of a pretty reasonable paycheck already-- to people who pirate. In the music biz, the small indy bands that everyone downloads because its the norm, cant ever make it big because they cant sign a record deal for any money. Its not the big bands that lose, its the little ones.

Downloading pirated content never hurts the big names, it always hurts the little guys, and thats just flat un-american.

-ps, dont dis the square brackets they're there for your protection... dummy

you tell me what i have done and what i haven't? i'm glad you enjoy buying something and being told you can only use it "x" amount of times.

second day of trying to install the game and then activate it and i'm about to throw it into the trash.

and remember... on [H] you are not to express your opinions... that is reserved for morons like michaLcoughliN

it seems to me that the pc version of Bioshock was a fucking afterthought. it even has the xbox controller in the control menu... fucking mouse acceleration is fucked also.

you are a fucking moron - you tell me what i have done and what i haven't? i'm glad you enjoy buying something and being told you can only use it "x" amount of times.

dude you need to update your attitude.

The 21st century is the world of INTELECTUAL property. What are they supposed to do? I think 5 is reasonable. What I plan to do is split the cost with a couple of buddies of mine who would otherwise pirate this game, and all three of us will play it.

If you didnt have this 5 comp rule, and it was as many comps as youd like, the video game industry would be in an even bigger hole. In case you havn't noticed the videogame industrys profit margines are about as bright as the national debt:

It takes ~$40mil to make a game, and that doesn't include designing the game engine. At $40 a copy, how many do they need to sell to be profitable?

The profit comes from seaquels and already built engines. You can use the same engine from your last game, and you've (hopefully) already got a good size fanbase. You dont need as big a team to develop it, and the total sales should be in the same ball park.

the activation servers just went down again

*scratches head*

Can anyone explain what the problem is? You buy one game, you get to install on one PC. I've never had a problem with that, that's what the license gives you. Fine. What pissed me off was that re-installing your OS only TWICE and you lose access to a game you bought.

But this new scheme fixes that:
- You can deactivate a PC, so, in theory, you have unlimited activations (only restricted by the amount at a time)
- Even if you DON'T deactivate it, you can still install 5 times rather than 2

Sorry if you anti-DRM folks have an issue with this, but...

...that's about the best I can imagine. I respect copyright holders - they've done a SHITLOAD of work on this title, they deserve compensation. And this current compromise is...generous...by ANY person's standards.

I'll take it, in fact.

The first 3 letters in your name is what the result should be kiddo.

You truly need to calm down. Go outside, get some fresh air., sit down. and think before you start typing.

I think from reading all this I am going to wait a few months for patches to get this for the PC or get it for the Xbox360. Too much bullshit and thats a shame as PC gaming is in decline as it is. When there were more games then you can even know about a few years ago things were different. I can understand the anger with the state of PC gaming these days. Comparing it to HL2 is not a good one as that was an age ago in PC gaming.

I want to read the reviews because if this runs just like another lousy port then I will get it for the 360 for sure.

why do they have ta limit to how mucy times you can activate it? its not going to stop piracy, infact by the end of this week piracy will once again crack this game easily

This type of shit is why developers are moving to consoles. So the next time anybody wonders aloud about that, remember the "Bioshock" riots. The amount of bullshit that erupts over the internet about piddly shit is staggering, and if it wasn't so easy to pirate PC games, we wouldn't have this type of situation.

This complaining about something that will never ever affect you, but it's there so you complain about it. How many computers do those of you complaining about this multiple install issue have? If you have one computer, and you play a game, beat it and then uninstall it, how exactly is this a problem? Do you think that your hard drive is going to fail repeatedly, negating your ability to ever uninstall properly? How many of you format on a whim, without prepping for it first? Occasionally sure, but 5 times?

Publishing houses have to at least look like they are trying to prevent piracy, and protect developer content.

Releasing a PC game is like living in a bad part of town with nice things. No matter how you lock up your shit, eventually it's going to get ripped off. Some of you make it sound like they deserve to get ripped off, like they're asking for it.

Some of you suck.

You guys don't understand. As it is now, you are_not_limited to how many times you can install Bioshock on your computer, as long as you uninstall it before. IE, say you go to reformat. As long as you uninstall Bioshock before you reformat, you can reinstall Bioshock without any problems. Ad nauseam. Forever. As many times as you want. What you were limited to was having it installed on two computers at the same time. With only one CD key. What other games can you do that with? With the recent change, you can now have it on up to five PCs at the same time! I don't understand what there is to complain about

This is no doubt better, but still 2K did not address the real issue. We should NOT have kinds of limitations to install the game we bought. At least they are listening to the problems. At first we were just given some BS PR speak from Elizabeth, that basically said nothing. At least now they are saying something about.

I like the analogy, it's perfect.

Its sad to see the industry be so hurt like this. Its even sadder to see people who dont understand why we have this content protection.

I reformat on a whim. "OOohh spyware eh? first time ive seen you in a couple years"
--zap--
"gg... I win.... 16-0"

honestly its like a couple hours "work". while your watching a movie you can just reinstall my stuff. Essential data I would backup, but i keep essential data on a computer that rarly sees the internet.

The activation applies to the Steam / download version....
