Any ideas about this integrated amplifier?

I like chill music like Vollenweider, Vangelis, Coctaeu Twins.....maybe that helps.

My Beyer DT-990 pros with custom mic mod... almost looks stock

I really do need to get something to drive them though... they're 250ohm and I know im missing out... anyone recommend a 50-200 dollar amp?

Oh man, that brings back memories of my DT990pro, execpt that mine were 600ohm and not 250ohm (and you thought your's were hard to drive, haha).

That mic mod is so sweet, it does almost look stock! Impressive.

Old school AKG lovein!

AKG K340 (left) and AKG K240M 600ohm (right).
You know, for 20-30 year old headphones, the K340 had a pretty nice midrange. I'm thinking I might send them off to headphile to get them professionally modded (soon) ^_^.

Doesn´t all AKG have great mid range?

That 240 looks similar to what my parents got with their stereo. 12-15 years old I think it´s not sure...

Could those be from that era? There is no name on them so I have no clue what headphones they are I know they where high end at the time...

And surely they do sound great still :)

Best 20 dollars total i have ever spent right here:

icemats = 10 AR and cobys = 10 at walmart

LoL...

What desk is that? I've wanted a desk in that style, but I cant find the exact one :(

Actually, now that you mention that, i'm amazed the spiked feet of the amp don't put enough pressure to break the glass. Taking your chances Akwok.

Uh, except the feet are dull and the amp isn't particularly heavy.

The desk is a Z-Line desk from Staples.

Adrian,

What do you think of the Monarchy DAC? I saw that on the 'gon, pretty cheap at about $1K, but it's not balanced and it has that pesky line stage built in. Why didnt you go for something more upscale as I know you're capable of it. The reason I ask is that I'm in the market for a DAC also...

Just wondering....

I like the design and the components used, so I'm sticking with it. The only other DACs I'm kind of interested in are the LessLoss DAC and the Resolution Audio Opus 21 (both PCM1704*), but I'm not sure whether those will be an upgrade, downgrade, or sidegrade.

There have been favourable reviews of the M24 on Google, and I used the DAC-60M before and it sounded very nice (same builder as the M24, but PCM1704U-K versus M24's PCM63P topology). I have one DAC that I may be 'upgrading' to in the (distant) future, that's currently under development.

I don't know what defines more upscale? More expensive? o_O

Nice.
I have a almost new pair of flat pads in my junk box you can have if you want them.

Man, that is really awesome of you. I was actually considering picking up a pair from TTVJ. If you don't mind, I'd love to have them.

PM me your address info and they can ship in the next 5 minutes.... which is about ten minutes before the mail person usually gets here. ;)

In general, yes. The K340 is a special case though. I prefer their midrange to the HE90.

I'd still kill to have an HE90 though for some of the other tricks that headphone can pull off. Hmmm... Adrian lives fairly close. :p

Just how effective do you suppose that "special case midrange" is when those phones are used with an amp that features a cloudy recessed midrange, a DAC that features poor high frequency extension, some crappy congested cables and a Audigy 2 card ? ;)

Ummm... not very effective. :D

Who's setup are we talking about here?

Marshall brings up a good point though, as the K340's are extremely amp dependant and really deserve a decent source. ;)

So, how are you liking them compared to your old grado's?

Dunno yet, I have yet to listen

Been busy I guess, haven't had a chance to put them on. Sadly, I won't be able to do any A B comparisons with my 225's... as those are currently in the possession of the post office. Had to sell them to pay for the new ones.

I am excited to try them out though, I've wanted them ever since I first heard of them. And, I get to try flats for the first time also, when those arrive. I don't know how I'll like them, but since bowls are still uncomfortable to me, hopefully those will be better! I might just wait to listen till the flats arrive.

Ahhh... first listen.

They sound freaking fantastic. A good step above the 225's. They are cleaner, faster, and more detailed. They have a more neutral sound, but after my love affair with the HD580, that is for the better I think. They are also more comfy for some reason... I think the weight has something to do with that.

Oh, and they are dead sexy! I can say this, I don't think these babies will ever leave my collection.

EDIT: Whoot. I got my flats today too. I don't yet know what to make of them. I didn't know pads could make this much of a difference. On the one hand, they are more comfortable. Also, the thing that really gets me, is the bass. It sounds so much better. I've never heard Grado's thump like this. However, at the same time, the best way I can describe it, is it makes them darker and muddier, which I don't like. I like the brightness of the bowls, but the comfort and bass off the flats. I think I will probably find myself switching back and fourth a lot.

EDIT2: Further analysis suggests that these are the cats meow for a good recording, but incredibly revealing of a bad one. For some of the worse recordings, the Senns really handle them better, but these outshine them on the good ones. I'll have to try and remember what is recorded well and whats not when choosing which cans to wear.

Thought i would add a new pic. I got a small stand to put my CE595 next to me when im at the PC. I also have added a swtichbox to swap between my PC and my SACD without having to swap cable. I also use my GO vibe with my E4s every once in a while if i want more personal and isolated sound. Its also connected to my switchbox.

That is a great pic Gautama.
I have a question for everyone, where can you get the wooden stand that holds all of your headphones?

Thanks.
