Old games you would like to see remade.

Anyone else remember "Strife". It was on a Hopped Up Doom1 Engine. It was the first FPS to have NPCs that fought along side you in key battles. Very Good Game for its time and the story was intersting enough to be re-made.

(I haven't sifted through the pages 'cause I don't have that kind of time)

I would love for Quake III to be modernized, and maybe expanded upon. I could never get sick of it.

Leisure Suit Larry
Police Quest
Space Quest
Kings Quest
Kyrandia
Prince of Persia
Lemmings
Ski or Die
X-Wing
Descent
Star Control
Stunts
The 7th Guest
The 11th Hour
The Incredible Machine

Hmm I could go on for hours

Mentioned right on the first page, but... Ascendancy and Master Of Magic, two games I still go back to from time to time. Neither are terribly deep, but they're fun.

With modern graphics and more refined gameplay... heaven.

Quake 3 is the best game ever.... it is modern enough.

and no, Quake Wars is completely different.... because really, its impossible to expand upon Q3/RA3, because they were the complete be all and end all of deathmatch and CTF for people with skill

Ultima Online brought back to its Pre-trammel glory
Amen...I'd pay $20/25 a month to play an official pre-UO:R server.

Chrono Trigger and Final Fantasy 6. If those two games came out remade for PS3, I'd go buy one just for those two games. I'm not talking about the PSX verisons, I want them completely revamped in 3D.

X-COM series using the engine from the Freedom Force games.

All the tactical turned based stuff is already in the Freedom Force games.
It would just be a matter of adding the base building.

The first Freedom Force game even had one mission where you fought some alien types with blasters.

X-Com is being remade, actually the game is meant as a "Spiritual Succesor", so almost identical. I believe it's supposed to take place as if X-Com had lost and this is the continuation. Game is called UFO:Extraterrestrials. (UFO:ET)

http://www.ufo-extraterrestrials.com/

Hopefully comes out soon, looks good. Cenega is having a 3rd go aswell with UFO:Afterlight, but the combat seems yet again screwed up (Not true turn based, but not really real-time either? wtf?)

Other Games i'd like to see remade:
Master of Magic
Master of Orion (MOO3 is trash, simply doesn't count.. never even bothered trying it :p)
Star Control

I'd mention Total Annihilation, but Supreme Commander has answered my wishes in that case - and its made by the same guy too which makes it all the more sweeter :D. Game is awesome so far in beta.

My vote has to goto Wizardry I. Yes, given Sir-Tech's demise, it won't ever happen. Plus the gaming world has changed so much (mainly for the better) since the mid 1980's, that a reincarnation wouldn't resemble the first version in any meaningful way. But to drop a Tiltowait again on some bad guys....that would rock.

This whole thread makes me think back, and realize how much PC gaming has changed over the years. Original RPG games were closer to books (ie. little to no graphics, all story driven) where as today's versions combine graphics closer to movies, with (hopefully) compelling story lines.

Don't get me wrong, I wouldn't want to go back to circa 1985 graphics (the new 8800 GTX will be here in a few days...woot!), but having played great (and weak) games from both eras, it brings to mind the experience of reading and seeing LOTR. Back in the day, your imagination had to step up to the plate...today the eye candy is exceptional, but was anything lost in the process? Such is life though, if you want to make omelettes, you have to break some eggs.

I definitely think something was lost. I guess there's something to be said for simplicity. I mean, look at the '90s games that I still think fondly back on--Master of Magic, Ascendancy, Stonekeep, Exile III: Ruined World, Planescape: Torment. They're games that by today's standards may not be very advanced (some are downright primitive, both visually and in terms of gameplay) but their appeal never seems to fade.

I guess the bottom line is that any given decade produces a ton of games that are fun to play, but only a few that are true gems, that really make an impression, such that even a decade or two later you'd put up with the archaic gameplay and ugly graphics just to experience the pure fun of them again.

At the moment, though, I can't seem to think of any post-2000 games that fit the bill... /frown

Yeah. Gameplay. It's getting pretty rare to find a game that takes more than 8 hours to finish. Hell even the Atari 2600 had games that took forever. Anyone remember Swordquest? (yeah, I know, it took forever because no one knew what the hell they were supposed to do).

System Shock (the original). I know it has been said before but I want System Shock: Source, or the equivalent, dammit!

If I had even the smallest amount of talent I would make the mod myself.:(

I'd have to put my vote in for the original X-Com. I still think the graphics are good and the gameplay is great. I would like more variation in missions, updated environments during combat and integrating multiplayer somehow would be cool. UFO Aftermath was good, but it was missing something. I'll have to check out this UFO: Extraterrestrial. It looks promising.

I'd like to see a good FPS based on X-Com. I know there was talk of it, and some cool screenshots, but nothing good came of it. I'd like to see a good single player campaign starring u as a grunt working your way up the ranks to be selected for the final mission to Cydonia. I'd like to land in a Skyranger and roll right to get pinned down by plasma fire. I'd like to feel the thrill of trying out my new laser rifle and taking out Snakemen. I wanna face the ubernasty Reapers in a terror attack and take em out in a co op w/dozens of other X-Com soldiers. I wanna defend our base from a Floater attack and invade an alien base.
And I do still have the screenplay for the opening of an X-Com movie somewhere in my X-Com box... sitting next to my X-Com mug and my X-Com pin and my Exosquad toys..

But since I have a better chance of winning the lottery, I'll have to settle for Halo...

I wonder if an Exosquad game/remake of the original Genesis game would be possible... without making it a Mechwarrior clone...

I would have to place a couple votes for X-Wing, Tie Fighter or a good combo of Xwing vs Tie Fighter. I'd love to see a good multiplayer version on the 360/console of ur choice that allowed matches w/32 players. To be able to orchestrate 4 squads Rebel vs the Empire would be awesome. Give us the ability to customize our ships, maps, misisons, etc and I'd bet my 360 it would sell well.

I remember playing a black n white 3D tetris back in kiddie skool. It was one of the pirated games we had on floppies. Everyone in class played it. This wasn't a tetris w/3d blocks. It was a real 3D tetris where you had to drop bricks into a room and make sure they fit on all three axis. When you starting getting in trouble, it would start to fill up at you and make u feel claustrophobic. I'm not sure Id wanna waste anymore of my life on tetris, but I would like to see lil kids playing it.

and did anybody ever update Battle Chess? I don't remember winning often, but I do remember spending many hours watching the pieces kill each other.

That game would look awesome if someone redid it with DirectX Graphics and some stereoscopic glasses to make it true 3D.

FutureCop LAPD

also, Jedi Knight 2

umm, Lylat Wars (Star Fox 64)

just to name a few

edit: and Oni

That game does look promising! Might just be the updated version to XCom that all us fans have yearned for all this time. ;)

Evil Genius (or at least a sequel)
Sea Rogue
Dungeon keeper (Still play it)
Gunship (But Ultra-realistic)
Defenders of the crown (Or some game along those lines)

Some of the other cinemaware games...Not all were great but they were fun.

Murder Death Kill (MDK).

Anyone ever played that? It was like the under-dog of the lot. Pheominal atmosphere.

I'd love to see that remade. :)

I played that on my parents 1st-generation iMac, and it was a blast! "world's most interesting bomb" FTW!
