Your voltage for FX-55

I'm wondering what voltages you are running your FX-55. Right now, I have it set to 1.7V and want to know what the maximum safe voltage I can set it to and run it for at least 6 hours a day.
 
That depends.......ppl might have some answers for ya if you gave so extra info like.....

1: What you're using for cooling
2: What clock speed you're at /w 1.7v
3: What your idle and load temps are at 1.7v

Those are just a few.....and probly the most important. I mean really dude, I've seen ppl running them at 1.8v, but that's on a custom built cascade phase change cooling setup holding the cpu at temps below -50C. I haven't seen any FX-55's just up and die at anthing less then 1.8v, but depending on what kind of cooling you've got running on the cpu, it may or may not last for as long as you'd like it....or be stable for extended periods of time at certain voltages.

never used an fx but an xps safe around 1.9 so it may be the same for a 55 but i dont know that craps to expensive

Just what I was going to say.....except the highest clocked FX-55 I've seen to date is over at XS courtesy of pc ice, and even with his 3 stage cascade cooler capable of -159C, he still had to push his FX-55 to 1.88v, but 3.797GHz isn't anything to complain about. :p

EDIT: Here's a link to the thread if any of you want to follow it, as this IS the highest clocked FX-55 in the world as far as I know...and also the lowest temperature achieved so far over at XS.

Oh, and yes, that IS me you'll see who posted over there, those guys are the main driving force behind my urge to switch to phase change. :cool:

I run mine at 3ghz+ 24/7 at 1.65. I have no idea what the temps are. :D

haha, kinda funny, cus I know I'd probly end up going crazy having a rig like that and not ever knowing what my temps are. :p

Great overclocking attitude, but since I don't readily have the cash to replace a lot of this stuff I'm just a little bit more cautious (paranoid) with my rig. :p
 
1.75V with phase changer (condenser fans 100%) can take you to 3.5Ghz, but not stable though. 1.7V at 3.36 stable 24x7.

It'd be fun seeing how high I could hit on h2O with the FX-55....but at the same time I'd still like to hit a nicer clock then 4.3GHz with my 3.4E with the PS. :p

Imo keep the 3.4EE cause you already have the foundation. Vapo is going to make it perfect. In the other hand if you get fx55 then you gonna need a vapo to unlock its power (which starts to show at 3Ghz+) :D

It's a 3.4E, not an EE, but still....I agree.

Even though the FX-55 above 3GHz are really kicking some serious ass, I still think I'd rather have a 4.7GHz Prescott, just for the fact that it's so close to that magic 5GHz marker.....and even though a lot of ppl disagree with me, I still can't stand multitasking on A64 rigs, cus I have tried it on some different setups....and I still prefer my P4 with HT for the kind of work I generally do at my comp when I'm not gaming or benching.

I dunno, I think maybe Intel has a hold on me, but I think I'll hang onto the 3.4E and see what kind of magic I can work with my scores if I can hit about 4.7GHz.....now I just gotta decide if i wanna get the Vapo LS or MachII ST. I know the MachII ST uses r134, which isn't as efficient of a refridgerant as r507 that's in the Vapo LS.....but I could always get the Prommy re-gassed with something else. And the fact that the MachII ST would cost me about $400 less then the Vapo is also sticking in my head.....$750 CDN as opposed to $1200 is a huge difference when I've got limited cash to start with....unless I can find something used on a forum somewhere. ;)

Never buy used phase changer....Unless it's been modified by qualified ppl ;)

After a while with this virgin vapo I'm thinkin about mod it :D With FX runnin 1.75V vcore (limit with neo2 1.41mod bios) and 3.45Ghz not stable, condenser temp fluctuated from -52.5 idle to -41/39C load. so, if I want to go all the way up to 3.5Ghz stable I need vcore mod and vapo tune up and run at 1.85V vcore and -65C idle/-50C load on condenser ;)

I haven't look a LOT into it......but with the Vapo LS already running on r507, what were you planning on having "tweaked" or tuned on the LS to get the temps to -65C idle and -50C (solid) under load? I'm by no means saying that -50C load on a 1.85v FX-55 with single stage PS isn't possible...cus I've seen crazier things done.....just curious as to what you have planned. ;)

If I'm not mistaken , some one in the other forum can reach 3.6/3.7Ghz superpi stable with dual cascade at more than -80C load, but have some problem w/ cpu afterward. I think 3.5 is a borderline safe as long as fluctuation on evaporator temps not to wide( beetween idle and load). I can bench at 3.4 with 2 delta fans added to vapo intakes.
Edit: My plan is to make this vapo colder and stable :D Prooly Just prepare it for fx57(if it ever released) w/o going dual.
 
So now, I'm running at 2.95 on 1.75V. Temps rarely go over 50C using Asus Probe after hours of gaming. Is it safe to run it at this high of a voltage 24/7? I would like my fx-55 to last at least 3 years.

Just what I was thinking.......granted those are only temps from gaming and not really the CPU's true load temp....but if that's all you use your comp for then so be it. What kind of cooling are you running to have a gaming load temp of 50C?

For the most part they're right.....as that way you're giving yourself a bit of a buffer zone with your temps and you shouldn't have to worry about any excrutiating load temps with your FX. It can all be relative though, if your temps are still fine you can try going higher.....but some chips won't be stable long term at higher vcore's under insufficient cooling.

Well if the FX-57 comes out with dual cores that might be competetive with intels hyperthreading. Wishfull thinking of course.

A lot of people still insist that they can't notice HT in their day to day use....but I can, I've tried disabling it.....and its very easy for me to tell the difference in speed in my regular, day to day multitasking.

It'll be interesting to see what dual core cpu's actually bring to the table, but in terms of multitasking properties I'm not gonig to bother commenting....because I honestly dont know......and even though this is me, there are still enough ppl around here that'd be quick to call me on it or try to talk down what I THINK.

Something I've learned after spending so much time around this crowd......if you're not 110% sure about something you're saying then just don't bother saying it....cus there's always someone laying in wait to talk you down the second you slip up. :p

Only thing is... the initial responsiveness of A64 is so good once serious overclocking is involved... the marginal gain that was due to HT just diminishes...
Kind of like comparing dual proc 2ghz intel rig with 3ghz intel single proc rig.
As for exotic cooling, here is my suggestion. Buy one used at good price, send it to reputable place for modding. You will probably come $100-$400 cheaper than buying it new while getting much better performance.
Cerv, enjoying your XT-PE? :) Got SLI setup now and just need to figure out a way to cool it :) What kind of modification you thinking about for your vapo? Only thing I can really think about is swapping out for bigger compressor, bigger condensor, and possibly baker block for more capacity. You might as well custom make single phase cooler at that point though? (Picking up my repaired and modded again Mach II tomorrow... baker block baby)

yep, still playin' with it. I've got cpu power, but the vc has to scale higher. You're right, might as well build from the ground up with bigger everything. I just install zippy 700w :D this monster is humongous.....
Edit: how's your fx55 and what week....mine is 42 and got a good oc in it, but it starvin for colder block ;)

Looks like the things fricken huge indeed......and yeah, if you'd be paying to mod and rebuild a fabbed PS system probly WOULD be easier to get to the point where you could just build one and save teh shipping costs amung other things. :p

Even enermax 660W PSU felt light compared to it... I even have some internal pics... and some testing I did...

This is from XR by me anyway :)

Few warning ahead, ambient temp is 27-29c. I've modded the PSU to lower fan speed (it runs @ 12v originally, but it is running @ about 6v now)
My DVM is not too accurate by it's spec so all this results should be taken with grain of salt. (However, the behavior of it moving based on load on GPU seems to tell me what I read and saw probably are accurate).
Bar none best PSU I've had so far. Will probably play more with volt modding on GPU to see if it has certain impact...

It is water cooled with DD TDX. I've also run Sandra's burn in wizard running the 2 cpu test for an hour and is still only going up to 50C.

Nice, good stuff on the TDX.....I love mine. Think you can get your room temps a bit cooler or whatnot to go for 3GHz on water?
