I think ive got one of the shortest with the biggest jump :p

Another massive jump for me is going to be from my current 15" crappy IBM TFT to the new Samsung SM226W 22" widescreen :D

GeForce3 Ti200 --> BFG GeForce 8800 GTX OC

Here's my video card history: :)

nVIDIA Riva TNT 16 MB, AGP2X [Dell OEM] (1998 - 2002)
nVIDIA GeForce 3 Ti500 64 MB, AGP4X [VisionTek Xtasy 6964] (2002)
nVIDIA GeForce 4 Ti4600 128 MB, AGP4X [BFG Tech] (2002 - 2003)
ATi Radeon 9800 Pro 128 MB, AGP8X [Sapphire] (2003 - 2004)
nVIDIA GeForce 6800 GT 256 MB, AGP8X [PNY Technologies] (2004)
nVIDIA GeForce 6800 Ultra 256 MB, AGP8X [BFG Tech] (2004 - 2005)
ATi Radeon X850 XT 256 MB, AGP8X [Sapphire] (2005 - 2006)
nVIDIA GeForce 7800 GS 256 MB, AGP8X [BFG Tech] (2006)
nVIDIA GeForce 7800 GS+ 512 MB, AGP8X [Gainward BLISS] (2006)
ATi Radeon X1950 XTX 512 MB, PCI-E16X [Sapphire] (2006)
nVIDIA GeForce 8800 GTX 768 MB, PCI-E16X [PNY Technologies] (2006 - 2007)

Trident 512KB, ATI Mach 64 2MB, ATI Rage 4MB, 3DFX Voodoo 4MB, Nvidia Voodoo Banshee 16MB, TNT 2 16MB, ATI Radeon SE 32MB, ATI Radeon 7500 64MB, ATI Radeon 9000 64MB, ATI Radeon 9600 Pro 128MB, Nvidia 6600GT 128MB, and currently ATI Radeo 1950 Pro 256MB.

My most expensive of the bunch was the 3DFX Voodoo for $239cnd.

Paradise 512K VLB (still have it!)
S3 Virge 4MB PCI (runs Descent2 w/HW acceleration)
Nvidia TNT 16MB PCI (can run GLQuake but not fast enough for Q2)
3dfx Voodoo3 16MB AGP (great for Unreal/UT)
S3 Savage2000 32MB AGP (total junk drivers)
Nvidia GeForce2 GTS-V 32MB AGP (the Q3 card)
Nvidia GeForce4 Ti-4200 128MB AGP (bought for UT2k3)
Nvidia GeForce 6800 128MB AGP (bought for Doom3)

My Voodoo3 served, by far, the longest tenure. There is nothing that runs as smooth as a Glide-based game.

ATi Rage Pro
ATi 64 MB (before the "Radeon" name kicked in)
ATi Radeon 64MB
Nvidia GeForce 4 Ti4400
ATi Radeon 9500 Pro (I think)
Nvidia GeForce 6800GT

Voodoo 3 (Loved that card)
FX5200 (sucked)
9800 Pro (killed it)
6800 GT (upgraded)
7900 GT KO (died)
7950 GT (died)
7950 GT (upgraded)
320mb 8800 GTS (current)

Diamond Stealth 4meg
Voodoo 4meg addon
Voodoo2 8 meg addon (when 4meg died, and Diamond sent me the 8meg for my trouble)
Some brand GeForce 3 Ti 200 64meg
BFG 6800oc 128meg AGP
eVGA 8800gts 640meg

Odd, but I can't recall if I really went from the Voodoo2 to the GF 3 without anything in between.

Voodoo 3
Geforce MX 200
Ati radeon 9500 pro 128mb
Nvidia 6800 gt
Nvidia 7800gt 256mb
Nvidia 8800 gts 320

Every other generation it seems for me.

Geforce 256 > Geforce 4 Ti 4600 > 6800 GT > 8800GTS.

Funny thing is, I was an ATI fanboy up until the 6 series of nVidia. lol

ATI pci 32mb * very long time ago :p*
ATI pci 64mb *very long time ago too*
ATI 128 mb hercules agp*long time ago*
ATI FireGl X3 256mb dual dvi*quite some time ago*
BFG Tech 8800gts 320mb OC version*recently*

I had several systems with *yawn* integrated video, skip over those. First proper videocard was a Geforce Ti4600, which the little orb heatsink got clogged with dust and caused the fan to fail, resulting in a stinky and very dead card. Next in line there was an AIW 9800 PRO, followed by an AIW X800XT.

Now I've got an X1950XTX, not planning to change it too soon, really. I'm quite happy with it. This is actually my first PCI-E rig.

X800GTO2 (dead) PCie
6600GT (went to my brother's comp) PCIe
7600GT (meh, traded for a 6800GS) PCIe
6800 Vanilla (took 2 steps back... sits as a backup card if something dies) PCIe
6800GS (for 256bit) PCIe
2 x 6800GS ( :D decent) PCIe

I started a lot later than everyone else :( . Didn't get into computers till the age of Geforce 6xxx and X8xx series cards :) , right after AGP died, haha.

Well the ones I remember...

Voodoo something-or-other
Geforce something-or-other
couple cards I dont remember

6800GT
7800GTX
8800GTS

ATI Rage Fury Pro ---> ATI Radeon 9000 Pro ---> (new computer here) ATI X850XT PE ---> ATI Radeon X1900GT

I see a trend here...:D

I'm waiting for refresh/next-gen parts to upgrade to a 8800GTS 640 or GTX. From what I see in benchmarks, the 1900GT should beat the shit out of the current mid-range parts...which is sad :(
