Your Video Card Upgrade Ladder

started with a generic 4 MB videocard on a compaq presario in 1996. Next was a geforce 2 GO 32 MB. Finally got a good card in the Geforce 6800GT, and recently upgraded to a Geforce 8800GTS

Onboard crap -----> Geforce 4 MX --------> Geforce 7600GS(512mb) -------> Geforce 8800GTS (320mb)

Matrox Millenium 4MB ---> Trident 9750 4MB ---> Rage Furry 32MB ---> Voodoo 5 5500 ---> Gainward Ti 4200 64MB Golden Sample (bought off the FS forums here) ---> BBA ATI 9800 Pro 128MB ---> ASUS X800 Pro VIVO (softmodded a little above an X800XT @ 520/540)

Next will probably be an R600, along with a new power supply since I'm only running an original True Control 550 that was made before all the funky power connectors came out.

Matrox Sumpthin or other-->9800 Pro AIW-->X800 pro AGP-->X850XT PE PCI-E-->7800GTX-->7900GTX-->7950GX2-->8800GTX and then last week a 8800GTS 320 for the HTPC :)

Mostly used the card for benching and then sold shortly after. Had the 7800 GTX for more than 2 years tho and my XTPE was a mad clocker. Did 650/650 unmodded on water with no ramsinks :). Great card. Will be holding onto the 8800's for a long time too.

Rage 3D -> ATI Radeon 8500DV AIW -> ATI 9800PRO AIW

Next gonna be maybe a 7800GTX or 8800GTS 320mb.

my "family comp" from my youth:

cirrus logic 2d crap, nvidia tnt 1, geforce 1, geforce 2 gt

my comp:

geforce 3 (the gfx card i paied the most for lol... never again)- 64mb, geforce 4 - 4200 - 128 mb, x800 pro - 256 mb, 7800GT 256 mb (current card)

TnT-> Tnt2 Detonator-> Ati 9600xt(3 times failed)-> 7800gt stock model-> 7900gt Ko top OC model(non superclocked)-> 8800GTS 320MB.

STB blackmagic voodoo > 3dfx voodoo3 2000 PCI > Creative GeForce DDR > GeForce4 MX > ATI radeon 8500 > ATI radeon 9550 > evga 7600GT

Canopus Pure 3D >> Geforce 2 >> Geforce 4 4400 >> Ati 9600 >> Geforce 6800 >> BFG7900 GT OC >> Evga 7900 GT + BFG 7900 GT (Sli)

ATI rage 3d 8mb (might of been 4mb) card AGP
3DFX Voodoo Banshee 16mb
Nvidia GeForce 2mx 32mb
GeForce 4 Ti4200 64mb
GeForce FX5200 (holdover card)
GeForce 6800GT OC
GeForce 8800GTS 320mb, arriving thursday :)

Nvidia GeForce 4 MX ?
ATi Radeon 9000 pro
ATi Radeon 9800 pro
Nvidia 7800 GT
Next: either 8800GTS 640mb or 8800GTX :)

Onboard, Voodoo 2, Voodoo 3, Geforce MX 32, Geforce Ti 4600, Geforce 6800 GT oc, Geforce 8800 GTX oc

Cirrus Logic, then a 1 MB trident (VLB of all interfaces), then the ugliness occured S3 Trio+ which I actually upgraded the video ram on, and then straight to hell with a PC Chips motherboard + integrated. Things improved once I got a Monster 3D. Then, Voodoo Banshee, Savage 4, TNT2 Ultra, Geforce 2 GTS, Geforce 3, Radeon 9600, Radeon X800, 6800 GT, now a Geforce 8800 GTS. I've had others in there (X700, FX 5600) but those are what have been in my main PCs.

EDIT: interestingly enough, despite the fact that there are fans on both sides, most of the people posting have had a variety of cards. Ati owned during the 9600/9800 days, but then a lot of people moved back to nVidia during the 6800GT days. I think the "fans" aren't quite as prevalent as some try to make it seem (read: viral marketers..LOL).

Yea, longest most useless thread in [H]istory.. nobody reads this shit and nobody cares what your videocard upgrade path was.. :rolleyes:
For most everybody here, its one more notch closer to getting that fabled custom title.

That smells like bait.. but even behind the internet, I'm a nice guy.

I wouldn't say nobody cares, I browsed through a few of these pages and saw some discussion. ;)

Some people like to talk about themselves, then some even find it fun to outline their hobbies. The result is this super long thread. I see you care just enough to show your specs in your sig.. <edit> and post your upgrade path too. :D

For most everybody here, its one more notch closer to getting that fabled custom title.

There's no ulterior motive. We just want to post our upgrade path whether or not anyone else cares. :)
