2005 - AMD 64 3200+

2008 - AMD 64 X2 6000+
2012 - Phenom II 975

The last two are technically the same system, but the only thing left from the original is some ddr 2 ram, the motherboard and the case. I've told myself once they make a monitor that can deliver 4k at 120hz I'll pull the trigger on an actual upgrade, I think my box of Theseus has reached its limit.

I have a spotty memory. And newegg order history was not around forever, so here's what I can remember. Im an intel only guy...

486 33mhz

486 DX2 50 mhz

Some Pentium model, cant remember.

Long gap, cant remember and now new egg order history:

Intel Core 2 Extreme QX6850 Kentsfield 3.0GHz LGA 775 130W Quad-Core Processor BX80562QX6850
Intel Core 2 Extreme QX9770 Yorkfield 3.2GHz LGA 775 136W Quad-Core Processor BX80569QX9770
Intel Core i7-975 Extreme Edition Bloomfield 3.33GHz LGA 1366 130W Quad-Core Desktop Processor BX80601975
Intel Core i7-980X Extreme Edition Gulftown 3.33GHz LGA 1366 130W Six-Core Desktop Processor AT80613003543AE - OEM.
Intel Core i7-990X (from Ebay)

Considered jumping to the 4960x but really, my system is still gaming fine with the 990x at 4.53 + a Titan. Had it up to 4.67 or so but it would occasionally crash when I would leave it on for long periods, so settled at 4.53. Runs for weeks at that speed.

Maybe wait for a 8 core heavy hitter...

Edit:

Some video card history:

some 3dfx card....
(gap)
ATI 9800 pro
Radeon X850XT
2 x 8800 Ultra in SLI
GeForce 9800 GX2 KO edition
GeForce GTX 295
GTX 580
GTX 680
TITAN

No current plan on updating my system, perhaps when octa core becomes main stream.

I don't actually remember what hardware I had from years ago... something like this..

Pentium 3 600mhz
Pentium 4 1.6ghz
Pentium 4 3.4ghz
Opteron something or other by AMD (underwhelming, should have waited for core 2 duo)
Core 2 duo E6600
Core 2 quad Q6600
2600k

next chip will be haswell-e, hopefully in 2014. There's no real need to upgrade to this, but I'm gonna do it anyways if there's new technologies introduced like DDR4.

I've always passed down old hardware to my mother, she's running 2 of my old systems, my sister still has a third one.

Ones I personally purchased and assembled myself:
  • Intel 100mhz, I think this was before the Pentium name came out. I remember just calling it an x86 chip.
  • Intel Celeron 300A
  • AMD 750mhz. first real foray into overclocking. Did the "pencil trick" to get it to 1ghz.
  • AMD Thunderbird 1.2ghz. i think i could only manage 1.4ghz. these chips were maxxed right from the factory pretty much.
  • Intel core2duo - 2.5ghz. Watercooled. 4ghz. Still running. Using it to type this post.
  • Intel i5 4670k - 3.4ghz. Just delivered yesterday. Sitting on my couch waiting to be installed. :)

I am not sure just turning in your [H]ardCard would be sufficient punishment for this statement...I personally should come over and smash all your nonhardware like the AMD Fixer for this...:mad::mad::mad:

Mine (from a long memory):

Some Commodore System I wish I had kept.

8088
Pentium 100
AMD K6/II/III (family) 233, 300, 450 all O/C'd
Some junk Cyrix PR rated 200 that I O/C'd the snot out just to kill it on purpose
Celly 300A @ 450, 333(or350?) @ 500
P3 533 @ 672 (Kick ass Soyo MB with INSANE 168mhz FSB)
P3 733@ 1Gz x 2 (Abit VP6 FTW ala Quake 3 launch)

AMD T-bird 1Ghz @ 1.33Ghz (first to crack 1.3Ghz on these at the time)
AMD XP1700 @ 2.1Ghz
AMD XP 2100 @ 2.4Ghz (kinda fuzzy on this one)
AMD 4000 (Sledgehammer core?) Sckt 754 O/C'd (X-mas gift to parents)
AMD Athlon 64 (90nm Winchester Core @ release) @ 2.6Ghz
AMD A64 X2 3800 @ 2.65Ghz (right at the AMD price cuts)

HP mobile workstation for CAD use for school/work with a Core (first gen) 2Ghz dual core and Mobile Quattro GPU..This was my first laptop, and I couldn't help ripping it apart and removing the stock thermal compound/pads and replacing everything with Arctic Cooling MX and Japan made Thermal pads...It made the CPU/GPU fans go from running @ 80-100% non stop (sounded like a Jet!) while working in cad to barely being heard

Intel Pentium E4400 (first lapped cpu I did) heavily o/c'd
Intel Pentium E4500 (same as above)
Intel Core 2Q Q600 B3 @ 3Ghz (friggin space heater!)
Intel Core 2Q Q600 G0 @ 3.4Ghz (like a fridge compared to the B3 above!)
AMD Turion X2 2Ghz HP notebook

AMD PII X6 1055T (launch week) @ 4.3Ghz (water)
Intel Xeon Quad/HT 1366 @ 4.2Ghz (water)
Intel I970 Hexcore @ 4.2Ghz (water)

Atom 1.8Ghz DC w/HT ION with 9400GT for web usage
Intel 3770K @ 4.8Ghz de-lidded (Golden Boy, uses no Vcore and insanely low temps).
^^This^^ guy is going into a new board (MSI Z77 MPower) and new case NZXT H630 this weekend).
Intel Celly G2120 (replacing the 3770K in my Z77 Extreme 4)

Just wait another decade. Then you'll have someone posting that their first CPU was a "slow" 4770K. :D

Pentium D somewhere in here
Core Duo T2400 (Socket 479)
Intel C2Q Q6600
