XFX R9 290X from Erwin Comp

Hey guys,

Just recently I bought two of these cards (XFX R9 290X) from Erwin Comp through amazon and unboxed them (they both had that clear sticker seal but anyone can takes those off and put new ones on). One of them had a huge rip through the box. It came straight out of the box like that. The sticker that goes on the cooler cover seems like it could've been taken off and put back on. The same is with the other card, except it looks a little less messy. So what do you guys think, did I pay full price for used cards?

Honestly, it looks like something gouged into the box at some point to me from those pictures. Whether that was because it was dropped, hit into something, or used, something's definitely up there. It's up to you if you want to make sure they work and keep them if so, but I'd be very sure they're in good shape functionality-wise before writing off trying to get a refund or replacement :).
 
I'm just afraid they wrote off the product as new even though it was maybe an open-box. Besides the cooler plastic wrapping cover, there seems to be no sign of dust inside the heatsinks or on the fans so I guess I'm good? I'm actually really excited to use these in crossfire.
 
Register the cards with XFX, you'll get lifetime warranty, and you can see if someone has tried to register them before you (used).
 
No signs of dust is a good sign.

Comparing to my XFX 270X box did it have round clear seals on both ends of the box? Think it would be difficult to replace those without leaving trace.

I see the cover for the PCI-E connector. Did it also come with covers for all the other connectors such as DVI, display port, etc.?

Maybe the photo makes it look worse than it is but I don't recall the clear cover over the video card was that messy on mine. Any signs of finger prints?

Another thing you can check is the S/N if they're close and the date code on the components to get an idea of how recent the card was manufactured.

Anyhow, I would send them an email with photos for record so that you have no issue if you had to RMA it for any reason.

Yes they had the clear round seals, but I tried pulling those off and they come off without a trace of residue so its possible that somebody could have tampered with the seals. All the accessories and covers for the ports are there and I did not see fingerprints. It just seems very dusty for a plastic wrap cover that shouldn't been lined up with the card instead of being out of alignment like that. I guess I could try registering the cards to see.
