Does this sound familiar? It might, because we told you once before in January of this year.

Rumor has it that this week NVIDIA will let it officially be known that XFX's European operations will cease to be an NVIDIA Approved Partner. This means that XFX will lose all underlying NVIDIA support on GPU allocation and new product launches...including Fermi.

That did not happen, except about the Fermi part. NVIDIA had intended to move into direct retail in January of 2010, but that did not happen for reasons we are not aware of. Now that NVIDIA has moved into direct retail sales, I was told today that XFX is no longer an approved NVIDIA partner.
 
Shucks, I liked XFX, all of my cards for a good bit until the 480 were XFX because of the double lifetime warranty, guess those days are long gone.
 
Wow, wtf is Nvidia thinking? Glad my XFX is a 5870.
 
wow, Gonna miss XFX. I bought 8800GT and GTX 280 from XFX. I tried to wait to see if things change for them to release a GTX 480 but never see it happen so I bought my GTX480 from EVGA.
 
Im really having a hard time undrstanding NV this year. Getting rid of 2 of thier best selling AIB partners in North America in less than 6 months time???
 
Can't help but think about when 3Dfx bought STB and froze out the other manufacturers
 
This is probably why they're entering the video card market under their own brand name. Until now, XFX could have meant nvidia or ati-amd and they're afraid that trend could translate to other partners. While i know they're trying to secure their investments, they're really going to fuck themselves over if they start burning bridges like this.Hopefully XFX has more balls than nvidia and owns up to a comparable trade-in or rma program.

I would imagine that this would take affect for new products only. Nvidia wouldn't want outraged customers complainign about canceled warranties. That kind of stuff is bad for business.

Plus, I believe that once a warranty is issued - at least in the U.S. - companies are leaglly obliged to honor it.



Additionally, I don't think this is a huge issue. Nvidia already has a ton of board partners. Thinning the herd a little bit is probably akin to GM's thinning down their dealer outlets, and will likely help them in the long run.
 
Wow. Now I understand that fancy box a little more. Not to mention the other AIB are probably thinking its not wise to burn the candle at both ends.
 
Eeh fuck'm. Maybe I'll be going back to AMD sooner than I thought.

if evga somehow would get dropped; wow talk about a huge blow. Hopefully this would not happen. I cant see anything in Nvidia streamlining(if they are) that would really change the state of the market, market share or any other scenario. Bean counters know something we dont?
 
I mean, obviously this isn't horribly surprising or anything since XFX didn't participate in Fermi but it's still just nuts on the surface if you ask me. Maybe Nvidia has something really awesome in the works we'll all really like...but I doubt it.
 
So begins the domino effect. The bookies in Vegas might have a field day betting who will be the next company to get das boot from Nvidia.

I did. And then it was dead after only a day of use :(

But nVidia... I really liked GTX260 and then I waited and waited and waited. Finally, I've given up and now I really like my new HD5870. Been using nVidia since TNT days, so that means a lot I guess.

I know, right? Nvidia used to have 'The Big Three' (BFG, EVGA, and XFX for you youngins ;) ), and I remember discussions between otherwise close competitors coming down to who had the better AIBs (such as 4850 vs. 9800GTX or 4870 vs. GTX 260). Now they just have EVGA and they seem to be doing everything they can to piss off their AIBs. I actually hope EVGA jumps ship to ATI. For one, it would be nice to have stepup options available for ATI, but two to maybe teach Nvidia some humility.

I think he meant out of the big 3 name brands. BFG, EVGA, and XFX were considered the "elite" brands offering step up programs, lifetime warranties, and real customer service.
 
And people wonder why I don't really like giving nvidia my money. (XFX 8800GT now resides in my sister's computer)
 
Hmmmm...I think I'm going to step-up eVGA cards very soon before something happens to eVGA. First BFG, now XFX...doesn't look good for eVGA IMHO now that Nvidia is branding their own cards.

+1 Replace "be going back" with "be going" and it looks like you have my post. We'll see how this whole thing pans out but Nvidia better have something really good up their sleeve.

...before the mass thinning down of dealers began. Thinning down the dealers was a part of their bankruptcy restructuring plan, a plan that enabled them to return to profitability.

Same. Interesting how these go full cycle.
3dfx was pretty strong when they went this route, and if I recall this decision was part of the demise in combination with having a product line that was delayed.
 
Does nVidia just like to be at odds with everyone? They mess with AMD (of course), Intel, gamers (ex. Batman AA and no PhysX with AMD card), and now their partners? It's like the Germans who like to fight on all fronts.

Who's next? Game devs? lol

You have a real good point......they really don't have a good relationship with anyone right now. Interesting to see what happens down the road- would Intelvidia anyone? LOL
