XFX Gets Boot from NVIDIA

Yeah just did a RMA for a card that was 3 years old, it was a NVIDIA xfx and they swap it for a AMD and was very happy. I always used NVIDIA cards and boards but guess that"s their loss...

^ Wow! I'll be sure to mark PNY off my list of potential manufactures.....

I actually hope EVGA jumps ship to ATI. For one, it would be nice to have stepup options available for ATI, but two to maybe teach Nvidia some humility.

Oy, time to sell my nvidia stock this looks bad, real bad. I heard nvidia even gives a whole 3 years compared to the lifetime warranty or double lifetime warranty most cards give... not to mention best buy, yeah this has fail written all over it.

Posts like this make me laugh. Nvidia is the largest graphics chip supplier in the world. The partners have far more to lose than Nvidia. Just look at the latest steam survey. Nvidia powers almost 60% of all machines compared to 33% for AMD. Losing Nvidia is a big loss for XFX. Also, the bulk of profits doesn't come from the high end cards we all love here. The money is in the midrange/lowend/onboard video. Nvidia dominates here. Their $100 ranged videocards sell like hotcakes to those who bought a $400 pc with an Intel video chip.

Comparing this to 3DFX isn't fair either. 3DFX didn't have a robust line like Nvidia. All the company had to go on was it's enthusiast segment. Nvidia is has a much larger product line and many more channels to sell through. 3dfx didn't even offer an onboard solution. They were 100% addin.

I've been a supporter of Nvidia ever since the demise of 3DFX (owned a Voodoo Banshee before my first GeForce card), not just because of "brand loyalty", but because every time I thought about switching to an ATI card, I always found something that I simply liked better from Nvidia.

As of right now though, I'm using an XFX Radeon HD5770 due to the long delays in the fermi platform. After seeing all of Nvidias recent antics though, I'm inclined to simply no longer give them any of my future business until they clean up their act. I was highly disappointed in the way they've handled things like Physx, their blatant disrespect for their AIBs, treating their customers like ignorant children, and now attempting to muscle their way into the retail market themselves.

Looks like I'll be staying with ATI/AMD for a while, and I'm happy with that.

nVidia's demise means one thing for us, the consumer. The end of valid competition. AMD will be the sole provider for graphics, and that scares me. I love AMD don't get me wrong, but no competition means we purely play by their rules (and pricing schema).
if that happens then most likely one of the smaller graphics company's would most likely try to explored the gap that would form like PowerVR mali........

I will miss XFX being a top Nvidia brand.:(

Glad they're still in the market though, even if they are only slapping their name on AMD cards.

Kyle mentioned you might want to take a look. I'll speak from experience first hand so you hopefully never recommend or buy the junk they sell, lifetime my @SS!!

So I purchased a card for my mom's pc a few years back, got a good deal on one via newegg I think it was if I remember right. Registered the card in my name, since I'm tech support for most everyone I know. The fan dies on the card 6months after she has the card, hmmm no problem just phone in for an RMA I tell her, or so I thought.

I give them a call, after 25-30mins of them searching for where I registered the card they find it. Then they proceed to tell me that the "Lifetime warranty" that I supposedly had is only good for the "products life cycle". I bought the card right before the 7600 series came out, it was a 6600GT, since the new cards were out, the warranty was no longer good.

Not even a years warranty on a card that I had a receipt for etc. I spoke to two other people supposedly higher level management and they gave me the same spill. So I informed them that I would never purchase another product from them again and would discourage everyone I come in contact with to do the same.

I've posted a few times here on [H] about them when people have complained about them. I wouldn't buy a PNY product if it was the only thing available, honestly I'd do without and quit the hobby I love.

Sorry, /rant off, hate PNY!!!!!!

Ouch, not honoring a 6 month old purchase with receipt, and it isn't like PNY is the cheapest by any means either.

Clearly, Nvidia wants a bigger piece of the pie, so they are going to cut out all of their resellers and go into fabrication, marketing, sales, and retail themselves. They apparently think they can do it and I wonder if this will make AMD scramble to keep up. Companies like this don't go into these things willy-nilly. They are obviously taking a risk in thinking they can shut out other resellers and do it themselves. Wait and see is my attitude. If prices start to creep back up, then I might have an issue, but if this provides the competition we all like to see, then prices should either be stable or you can start to see video card wars.

Makes sense, they have supply problems... Why not just cut out the middleman and sell there products themselfs? more money all around.

Ever try to RMA with them? because all I heard was bad things about it.

I got my PNY from Best buy, and the great thing is that they cover manufacturer's warranty. Since GeekSquad cannot diagnose a card, I get a new one every time I have a problem. Sore I paid ~30$ more, but instant-replacement is worth it.

Best Buy is to expensive around here, $209 for a 5770:eek:.

good to know.

i had bought a PNY 7900GT, didn't register it, admittedly my bad. i tried several times over a few months to get them to fix it after it started artifacting badly after about 20-22 months. no dice.

i eventually gave in knowing that it was my bad for not registering the card. but told myself i wouldnt get a PNY again. have a few BFG cards now, had much better luck with them so far.

/crosses fingers

shhhhhhhhhhhhhhh if too many people know this and start using it they will change the policy! :p

um, currently Nvidia is sucking at everything but the 460GTX. (and its not like they are going to make money there, they aren't getting anything but market share) They are not dominating anything currently with the exception of workstation cards. Who has to keep dropping their prices? Their chip set biz is dead in the water, low end graphics cards are being rendered unnecessary (both AMD and Intel are going there), and they are still playing catchup with their DX11 lineup.

its not all doom and gloom of course (notebooks are looking good)but its hardly the picture you painted. I don't see how they could really afford to alienate their partners in what still amounts to their core business. XFX itself might not be a loss for Nvidia but the implications here are pretty far reaching.

To an extent, i mean besides some inefficiencies the actually cards themselves perform awesome. The GTX 460 was a winner due to the the price for performance factor, the performance was crazy good for a price that was more then doable for such performance.

I would think the recent actions by Nvidia just confirms they're essentially a software company that can create hardware and have somebody else mass produce them.

That's fine nVidia. I just won't buy your shit anymore. At least until ATi/AMD gives me reason to reconsider.

Not surprised. Nvidia simply wanted to eliminate its strongest competitor to move it out of the way. All other AIB better look for the knife Nvidia has coming at their back.

My first and last PNY product was a Geforce 3 Ti200. A couple of weeks after the purchase I opened up my PC only to find that 2 out of the 3 heatsinks were sitting at the bottom of the case. The only thing keeping the stupid pieces of crap attached to the card was some sort of double-sided tape. Never again.

the 460GTX is a real winner for the consumer, as money maker its god awful. and in that vein I wasn't so much bashing the gaming performance of the products (sorry I didn't make that very clear rereading my post) as I was the product line from that viewpoint. Selling video cards at a near loss (or maybe and outright one) makes for a bad cycle. What I was really trying to drive home in that post was that as a company Nvidia is sucking wind right now regardless of how much cash its sitting on. I just don't think that they can afford to mucking up their core business right now. and yet here they are.

Wow.. XFX is a good vendor, they even covered by 8800gtno questions.

Oh well, I have my XFX 5870... Suck Nvidia, and I use to only buy their cards.

Losing XFX boards so big yellow can sell "Original nVidia" Foxconn boards doesn't excite me much.

AMD has been gaining ground or just holding every month, which means that AMD is selling more new cards as Nvidia. Nvidia has lost 4% in the last year, which was the same 4% gained by AMD.

The hardware survey represents people who have already bought their cards. XFX sells new cards, which over the last year has certainly been in AMD's favor .

XFX already lost Nvidia. The Nvidia's butthurt over XFX's decision to dare sell two brands was quite apparent when Nvidia refused to allocate Fermi parts to them (as mentioned in the 1st post of this thread). And XFX is humming along just fine without GTX 4XX parts.

now if EVGA just made AMD cards. People would have a great choice in buying and warranty. Im sure it would have detremental effects though on this whole scenario.

Oh well, XFX makes kick ass ATI cards anyway. Owned a few and liked them.

EVGA tried to get permission to make ATi cards but AMD turn them down. :(

BFG also tried as well before their demise.

It would be something to see all big three on board with ATi lol.

Why the hell would AMD turn down any chance to take market share from Nvidia?

Wow, what a bunch of assholes NVIDIA are. I always knew they were childish, immature but this sucks. Just because XFX wanted to sell ATI cards and NVIDIA decides to ditch them, so much for years of XFX being loyal to NVIDIA and this is how they thank them... I don't get them sometimes.

Well, at least ATI is making kick ass cards so its not a loss for XFX. ATI seems to be on schedule these days.

They'd probably have to spread themselves too thinly among partners.

Given their success and market share growth over the last year or so, maybe it's time for AMD to reconsider these companies.

Might want to double check those numbers. AMD has over 80% of the DX11 market. AMD had the $200 and under range completely owned until just a couple of months ago when the GTX 460 came out, and was unchallenged in the $150 market and under until the fairly recent GTS 450 came out. It's also odd that you talk about the $100 price point, since Nvidia doesn't have a part to compete in that segment at all. And they still don't have anything less than $100 whereas AMD does. AMD has a $40 card ($30 AR), and has for quite a while now.

You're looking at old cards, no one cares about those, they are irrelevant. When you look at what is *currently* going on, it is an extremely different story.

Likewise, *WHAT* onboard video? Nvidia's chipset business went down the toilet, they don't have an onboard presence anymore. That is divided between Intel and AMD (not evenly, of course, Intel owns that :D )

I never suggested Nvidia is in any danger of going under, but it isn't exactly all roses and sunshine for their AIBs (granted most have other products that aren't video cards to still bring in the money even if the video card division isn't doing well)

Too bad BFG is gone, its a good thing they have a few other AIB's, thats if they can survive.

Whats going on in the land of Nvidia?

I hope XFX doesn't suffer too much from this, I've got 2 cards with their double lifetime warranty. I'd hate to see them go down the same road BFG did.

I doubt they will though, especially with the 6000 series around the corner =)

The ironic part of this is that Nvidia is sure to "promote" certain partners to replace BFG and XFX, names like Galaxy, PNY, and Zotac...the Nvidia arm of the same holding company that also owns Sapphire.
