I think the chance of that is slim. PS2 was discontinued after a 13 year run, just 3 years before the PS3 was. Will probably beat Gameboy sales, but reaching Nintendo DS or PS2 levels would be difficult. We still have this holiday season to account for but as it stands, it is only two thirds of the way there. I see it ending up as the 3rd best selling console of all time which would be a good success.

Thanks. I've watched the trailer a couple times and missed that. Pretty much puts it on par with Senua's Saga. In-Engine/target renders. The final games won't look as good as the engine footage and there is still exactly zero gameplay to get excited over. It is still stupid to claim platform superiority over this.

There are also renders of how it would look on usual media center configurations.







It may be rather chunky, but if you can fit a GameCube (x3 side by side), then you can fit the series x.
 
In-Engine doesn't mean it was rendered in real time during actual final gameplay, so it doesn't really mean anything

Ja, it just means this is what we could do, not what it will do. It's just as bad as the pre-rendered stuff that got Guerilla Games in trouble back in the PlayStation 2 era.

But stand alone GPU / CPUs are much costlier than what you get inside consoles

What if MS ordered CF express cards in bulk & sold them for a competitive price (should be competitive with NVMe removable storage because the technology appears to be the same )

Havent you seen any of the xbox branded harddrives or usb thumb drives from previous generations? A lot of price markup added to what was standard drives.

They are, right now. Here's a thought though: What if both companies are using them? In a few years that could really drive costs down as more people buy them.
 
I dont have an interest in consoles but X box One X to Xbox Series X? Cmon, that is pretty uninspired and bad. It will get a nickname, that nickname will probably be "the trashcan."

Samsung thunderbolt NVMe SSDs are available at $350 per tb

Non thunderbolt versions from other brands are available at half the price, ~ $175 per tb

I am guessing if MS sell their own brander CF express NVMe cards, it might be $200 to $250 per tb

Maybe they might bundle a 2tb or 1tb cards at discounted price with a new console !?

Would not be worth it considering what a 1TB or 2TB Sata drive costs today. Add an enclosure and that is that.
 
At this stage they are updating these things so regularly they should just call it the XBox 2020 edition, as for the design I like it. I don't have a cabinet that this would be in, it would sit on the floor opposite the sub would add some symmetry to the living room setup.

I assume they were using large Smart speakers like a Sonos as an indication as to what is a mainstream form factor these days. I doubt most people even have a receiver anymore (even in a packed Best Buy I don't see anyone even look at them), so the old stereo shelf design may not make sense to the average person in a focus group.

So I guess its trendy to have some monolith tower shaped thing in a living room, but I hate it.

If a future Xbox implements usb4, then, since thunderbolt comes inbuilt as part of the usb4 standard, it should be possible to plug in a series of thunderbolt CF express readers, daisy chained as below

That is not happening. At worse you would just pop one out and insert a empty one. Swap them depending on what games are on what. It makes me worried about the leaked Sony cart patent from a couple months ago. That looks like a proprietory removable storage solution. While CF cards aren't proprietory they are expensive still for the sizes they offer.

That's a nice thought, but 1TB SDXC cards are still around $400 US about 3 years after the release of the Switch with 43 million consoles sold.

How does shit like that get through the design stage. It just proves the people designing these things are morons.
Also I really hope everyone makes more shiny consoles (looking at your ps3 and xbone) so I can wipe noticeable dust off the shiny consoles. I don’t have to wipe down the 360 or my white ps4 though cause they don’t have a shiny surface.

for the price Microsoft wants for any sort of hard drive expansion it is going to be a million dollars for anything over a terabyte

PC World asked Microsoft/seagate/western digital about the possibility of daisy chaining the cards.

That tells me Microsoft was not ready for the questions real people would have about their expansion card. They must have figured that only a small percentage of the user base would be interested in it.

Seagate obviously has struck a HUGE deal with M$ to be the sole provider of the expansion nvme drive.

They probably have a 6 to 12 month exclusivity deal and then the others will flood in with their own brand for cheaper. But until that point, all money will go into Seagate’s pocket.

I knew they were going to pull shit like this but i really don’t care. Not surprised and will stick with the OEM drive until I need to upgrade.
 
The Xbox Series X is due for release in late 2020 but, due to the Covid-19 pandemic, there have been rumors that the next Xbox's release date will be delayed. Fortunately, it looks like that may not be the case.

I don't think there'll be a significant delay, especially since Microsoft is likely aiming for November (wouldn't rule out October, but MS has a longstanding obsession with November). The real question is whether or not there'll be as much demand. I suspect some people laid off might have jobs again by then, but there'll probably be a whole lot of twentysomethings who no longer have the budget for a brand new console.
 
I can't remember off-hand but has there ever been 2 rival console launches so close to each other? I mean there are no dates yet for either, but all we are getting from Sony and Microsoft is "Holiday 2020" which is what a 3 month window? I am really curious to see how this fight for holiday sales supremacy plays out. It seems like the person with the supply is likely to win?
 
I thought the ps5 wasn't going to come out until early 2021? I heard they are having problems with pricing and supply of certain parts.
