X6 Compatible, while keeping DDR2

So, I'm looking for a x6 compatible mobo, but I don't really want to upgrade to DDR3 yet. What are my best options? Or is this just a dumb idea?

Specs will be:
CPU:1055T
GPU: 5870
RAM: 2x2Gb 1066
PSU: 750TX

Any help or input is appreciated.

most AM2+ mobos should support it(officially or unofficially), though if you just hit up the interwebs you will notice for sure on the manufacturers site.....
 
Have you checked to see if yours is not compatible with the thubbie?

I would check with support as they list their TA790XE as compatible with the X6.
 
Yeah I have DDR2 on hand. My board doesn't appear to be compatible with thubans, according to the manufacturer's list, though they never added the Athlon II 620/30 which did work.

I'm definitely going to try it out on my board first, but either way I wanted to see what my options were.
 
Are there going to be any AM2+ motherboards that are X6-compatible right out of the box, with no additional BIOS update required? Or will I have to use a compatible CPU first, update the BIOS, and then switch in the X6? I have an old C2D rig right now and was thinking about making the leap to the X6, but would prefer to stick with my current DDR2 ram if at all possible.
 
I'm in the same boat, I just ordered a thuban, but gigabyte doesn't list the CPU on the comp list, so I'm just gonna cross my fingers
 
Did anyone see any performance numbers of a X6 on DDR2? I stocked up on DDR2 when it was good, and going to DDR3 would be a huge expense, so the AM2+ platform looks promising.

probably wont come out of the box compatible.....atleast not offically, since it is an AM3 chip itself......chances ar eit may work enough(though wouldnt bank on it unless youve got good luck :p ...........
 
look at the bios update list for your mobo. They may have not updated the supported cpu list but, the bios update description should mention it.

I would also like to see some Thuban + DDR2 ram benchies.

Stick to Asus and Gigabyte and you should be OK. We'll know soon enough if Biostar works or not.
 
Just an update on my upgrade.

My system would not boot when I plugged the 1055T into it.
 
Looking at MSI, specifically the 790XT-G45. Shows on their X6 compatibility list, but when I click on the bios link it isn't up yet.
 
w00t!!!!! They Gigabyte just released an update for my bios for 6core today!!!
 
I just installed the newest BIOS for my M4A79 Deluxe(AM2+), and my new 1090T works. The only problem I'm having is that when I set the CPU multiplier in the BIOS, it won't stick. Everything else works like it should though. As of now, I'm having to set the RAM/NB clocks and voltage in BIOS while setting the CPU voltage and clock with Overdrive. I've sent an e-mail to Asus to see if it's something they've heard about, and hopefully it's something that can be taken care of with another BIOS.

Sounds like it should be taken care of with a bios update. I have the newer M4A890, and it keeps the bios set multiplier without any issues. Probably just a glitch with Asus bios writers.
 
My gigabyte board (GA-MA785GM-US2H) has x6 support now...not spending the money on it yet...but it's nice to have for the future.
