WWDC!

Ended up getting the Retina 15" MBP. Twice the cores, twice the ram, and one HECK of a faster video card than my Early-2011 13" MBP. Apple store sold out within minutes of their shipment arriving. Dropped by Best Buy on the way home, and they sold out of the cheap one while I was there. I got the last of the Retina MBPs they had. 2.6/8GB/512GB. It was $2,799 according to the placard, the final came out to be $2,846.09 with a $150 Best Buy gift card. So it was $50 more expensive than at the Apple store, but I got $150 at Best Buy instead of $100 on the App Store. Personally, I'd rather have the Best Buy credit - I'm more likely to use it.

WIth the unibody's you could easily upgrade the ram, upgrade to an SSD, and swap the optical drive out for a second hard drive. Its unfortunate that Apple is headed back to the closed system mentality.

"Back to"? Apple never strayed from the "Don't touch the insides" mentality. They seem to have done fine without the build-it-yourself enthusiast market, and in fact dominate markets based on "closed system"—tablets and phones.

Never said it was. I was merely expressing my displeasure with the new form factor.
you don't have to be rude.

I'm not being rude. You, however, attempted to disguise a self-centered motive in the form of a disappointed enthusiast. I'm glad that you applied creativity and made a few bucks on the side through eBay, but ulterior motives don't fly with me.

But while we're on the topic of making money on Apple products via reselling, you missed out on a nice opportunity.

Earlier in the thread I mentioned my disappointment with the fact that there isn't the option for a retina display 13" MBP. There's probably a couple different reasons why it hasn't happened yet, and I can understand that. However, what's worse, in my opinion, is that they still haven't given the 13" a slightly higher res screen, on par with the 13" MacBook Air!

I debated still getting the new 13" MBP, despite the lack of a retina display, in order to replace my current laptop, but I didn't realize it was still a 1280x800 display, while the Air is 1440x900, until I was comparing specs earlier today.

Yeah, not sure what's up with that. I thought they'd have them the same on this gen. Very odd.

Yeah I'm typing this on a 13" mbp and the low resolution is a daily bummer.

It's rumoured that a next generation 13 inch MacBook Pro will be introduced with a Retina display later this year, and that would mean it'd have a 2560x1600 resolution and you'd be able to adjust the scaling for more workspace, like on the 15 inch RMBP. If they notched it up to 1440x900 they'd need the same 2880x1800 resolution on the 13 inch MacBook Pro as well, which is quite high and perhaps too much for Intel HD 4000 graphics as well.

I expect when Retina comes to the MacBook Air models (if it does) that the resolution on them will be dropped to 1280x720 as well.

Yeah..but that rumor isn't even a real rumor. Just what people think. The new retina displays use a lot of power so until they can get that settled....

I still can't believe Apple. They made a new macbook with soldered in RAM, a glued on battery, and an SSD with a unique connect so you can't upgrade it. How is anyone supposed to upgrade their macbook without dropping 2200 bucks on a new one. Oh wait, you can't.

Actually it's a rumour by the person who accurately said that the 15 inch RMBP would be a new line offered by Apple, and that the 17 inch model would be discontinued: http://forums.macrumors.com/showthread.php?t=1387392

From my understanding, a company can make compatible flash storage for the RMBP like with the MBA, I think. The battery is replaceable though, $199 from Apple.

Very simple solution #1: Don't buy it.

Plenty of other options out there.

Very simple solution #2: Max it out.

RAM is cheap, so who cares if you can upgrade ram. The battery is a $200 replacement option, which is not that bad. Keep has until it is dreadfully behind the times or until it die.

We can't have it all. You want light weight, sleek sexy look, then you pay a certain kind of price. If this new MBA is not for you, no biggie. Griping about it on a forum isn't going to impact anything.

I agree that it's very disappointing, but I think they're not pushing the screen of 13" MBP to match that of 13" MBA because it happens to be the same as base 15" MBP/rMBP resolution. It'd be kinda weird if 13" and 15" MBPs had the same resolution, eh.

my retina finally is scheduling to be deliver today. I select ground shipping but Apple is super fast. Ship from China yesterday on the 26th and it's already out for deliver today the 27th. Amazing fast
