Oh yeah? What site is it?

I've got nothing. My coworker has a very slim/light Vaio, which she likes, but wouldn't part with.

And driving your hummer to work every day. :p

No, the real perk is NOT having to drive to work at all. ;)

I wonder why Sony  ... I've heard time and again on these forums and elsewhere that IBM makes the best laptops while Sony's look cool but tend to break a lot.

Kyle, I've got a GRT-170..fits the bill oh, except for the light part. All you IBM'ers can bash the Sony's all you like, but of all the lappy's I've had come and go, I still love my Sony most of all. Just kidding, Kyle, I wouldn't part with it (well, maybe for the right perks and price...LOL).

Bump for the [H] est.

Amen, brother.
Kyle, if I could talk you into buying something else I would, I've spent over a decade as a laptop repair tech for most of the major players and the Sony build quality is, how should I say it?

Crap.

My opinion only.

Thank you for throwing this man a rope:p

Kyle step away from the Sony laptop. I know its pretty but you gotta look away.:D I too deal in many laptops, and Sony isnt the way to go.

Kyle,

Pull an Anand, man up, and get a PowerBook :D

Honest, try that bitch out a little. I'd like to see your take on one. Be fun to see a Dual 2.5 G5 review on the front page.

I love my workhorse A31.

The owner of our company has gone through 2 Sony Vaio's in over 4 years. Each broke just after the warranty ran up... Planned obsolesce and junk - badged with a brand name.

That's what killed it :(

Well the MP30 has a 1.6.......and to be honest it isn't that weak. It depends on what you are doing......general office work, wireless internet, movie playback.....etc......it is great. The only kind of benchmark I have run on it is F@H.........it does a bout 1.2 points per hour per ghz......depending on core. As an overall package the system is great.....the weak part to some would be the processor.......but it hasn't been a problem in my experience.

If that's all he wanted it for, I think he'd prefer a powerbook.

Well the 12 inch weighs more than twice as much and isn't a PC......thought he wanted a PC.....since he asked for one

I've got the following... not sure how "modern" you are talking:

Sony PCG-R505JL

In short it has...
Mobile P3 750
640 megs of memory
12 inch screen
PCMCIA Wireless card (I think it's got an internal PCI slot you could add one... one of those small ones, forgot what they were called)
Has memory stick reader
Firewire, USB, etc

Docking Station has
DVD Rom
Floppy
Extra ports

I think that's about all you need to know. Post back either way.

Say why dont you build your own? places like this: http://rjtech.com/
lets you put in your own cpu, drive, memory, etc., so you can save $$$ that way. Besides, if you do decide to build your own or special order one from a place like that (no, not affiliated) I bet they'd discount it for a plug on your site. Mebbe even give the rest of us loyal [H]ardforum people a discount too. Even better, you might be able to write it off as a business expense by writing an article on "how to build your own." Just a thought...

I own a Sony Vaio V505EX, thin and light at 12 inchs and 4 lbs. Plays doom3 and hl2 at 800x600 with its 9200.
I'm not emailing this because I don't think I want to sell it, and I am the suckage at making up asking prices.
I got this one off of Ebay however, 1400 when BestBuy and CompUSA were asking 1800, plus I got the base "free".
I really like the Sony laptops. Good choice Kyle.

Why did I just waste the time posting this? Just cause. :p
