WOW, Temps are whack. HELP!

Hello,

So I drained my system today, redid the tubing and put in my GPU waterblock. The CPU temps are fine at 33/35c idle, but then I look at the GPU temp and its at an amazing 70c idle on WATERCOOLING! I think it may be the way I applied the AS5, I spread it around like they instructed, usually I would not but because the contact area was so large I did it anyways, could this be the problem? There are NO kinks at all btw.

In case you need to know, I mixed distilled water with Pentosin G11 and PT Nuke.

So yeah, I reapplied the AS5 and instead of spreading it around I swirled it (looks like dog poop lol) on the center and now its 42c idle, awesome improvement. I found that if you spread it around, the GPU makes little to no contact with the waterblock.
 
dont call me an ass for asking a perfectly ligitimate question. i havnt used that koolance block but it sounds like it doesnt make proper contact with the core, perhapse its meant to use a heat conducting pad instead of AS5, either that or it wasnt installed correctly. full card water blocks are a pain cause they are so big and you have to line everything up.

You're right, it doesn't make proper contact, but thats only when you spread it around the IHS, also, I know it's not supposed to use a pad because the instructions say to use thermal paste.

either that or it wasnt installed correctly.

Sounds like a contact problem. Remove the cooler and make sure there is thermal paste on the GPU and the GPU block. Clean, reapply, install again, make sure everything is snug, and report back again. A small rice to 2 rice grains of paste in the center of the IHS will do fine, the block with pressure will spread it out between the tiny ridges and the IHS cover.

***edit: 42c still sounds a bit too high, what else is in your loop and what rad(s) are you using?

I've got a E6400 in the loop with an MCR-220, those temps are actually pretty nice considering it was 69c idle on air.
