Wired vs Wireless Mouse?

New 8K polling rate wireless mice hit 0.31ms latencies on Click

how much does it matter for a casual gamer

I'm a casual gamer, I don't think I notice.

Started going wireless and never looked back.
-Logitech Revolution MX, VX
-2x G700
-2x G604 (stupid melting rubber shit!) Going to see if I can have a 3D print shell for them.
-M730 (yeah, more rubber)

I wish Logitech stop using rubber on their mice, because it just doesn't last long.

With a wire you get inconsistent cord resistance. This has always been the reason I've used wireless. Even with the best bungie management it's an inconsistent feel. It's even more noticable the lighter the mouse is.

Logitech has had wireless mice that meet and even beat wired latency for decades, and at this point pretty much every company does now. Batteries are also a solved issue, they last for ages now, you can plug in while playing if you absolutely need to or use a wireless charging as you play and never run out of battery.

I remember absolutely destroying at LANs 20 years ago using wireless mice and people would gather behind me and watch and then I would let them try out playing on my PC because they couldn't believe i wasn't cheating.

8K polling doesn't really matter that much, but the higher hz screen the smoother it's going to make things look, especially with slower movements. But beware because some mice and keyboards have fake 8k polling.

Wireless mouse is the only way for me. Using a Razer Basilisk Pro V3 for about 2 years with no complaints aside from the price: $220 with battery puck and charging cradle.

Was a wireless mouse user for years with my G703 with the wireless charging pad and it's a great mouse, but now I use a G403 Hero wired.

Looks like a good pad, but I avoid black because it requires constant cleaning. I go through phases of using different surfaces -- cloth, plastic, glass, etc. I always return to my plain wood desktop, eventually.

whoa, it works okay on the wood ?

Wireless is an extra hassle with virtually no benefit. And for the one I used, the cable was so stiff that you couldn't even use the mouse with the cable attached. There are good gaming mice with cables that are virtually as good as wireless. https://hardforum.com/threads/compe...ati-razer-viper-v3-pro-deathadder-v3.2035569/

This stuff is irrelevant for casual gamers, and arguably for competitive ones too.

yeah, the cable on this one is stiff and burdens the mouse

do they have gamer cords that are extra pliable?

just seems to be a standard USB Type-A to Type-C, right?

Mine works great on wood. (y)

Been using wireless since I got my MX1000 back in the 90's.
Currently using a G502X Plus.

I picked up an Endgame Gear OP1 8k wired gaming mouse back in December last year after diving down the rabbit hole and spending way too much time researching gaming mice. It completely blew me away at just how fast, light and responsive it was compared to all other wireless or wired gaming mice I've ever tried. Ended up buying a second one just to have as a backup. Yes, it is that good.

made zero difference in game though, right?! ;)
I'm not a competitive gamer and I'm pushing 60, so get off my lawn! :D

Best damn mouse I've ever used though for both gaming and productivity - and I've sampled/used quite a few. You don't have to use it though... sorry for your loss.

As a casual gamer, I really don't see any difference in performance, so I chose wireless just to get rid of the cord resistance.

Also completely thought that way - until I got the OP1 8K. It weighs 50.5 grams, but even being so light, everything about it feels extremely well designed and high quality. Never needing a battery or to be charged is one thing that I definitely appreciate. Its cable is angled upwards off of the base of the mouse and is designed to be as light/supple as possible, resulting in it basically disappearing while in use - i.e. there is no discernible resistance unlike many other corded mice I've used.

Here's the review that convinced me to try one out:

Been on wireless going back 20+ years, but I'd say the tech has massively improved in the last few years. For a long time, you could tell the difference but you learned to live with it out of convenience.
Those Logitech Lightspeed mice feel just as good if not better than a wired mouse and from 15 feet away.

I prefer wired mice, as well as wired keyboards. However, I now use both a wired mouse as well as a supplemental wireless mouse, for those occasional needs for a wireless connection. Primarily when I am using my LG 42" TV (2nd monitor) for Zoom meetings or Kodi viewing.

For me, wired 100%. I use a Logitech G600, gone though about 8 of them over the years. The very first thing I always do when I get a new mouse is open it up and remove the metal weights that serve no purpose other than to make the mouse heavier. I want my mouse to be as lightweight as possible. The last thing I want is a battery inside the mouse. There is no cord resistance issue. I make a loop in the cord above my mousepad which I then attach to the top right foot of my keyboard. Keeps the cord secure, on my keyboard tray, and it never ever tugs on the mouse.

This is why I love my Model D, so light, the cord you don't even know is there because it is a light braided fabric, it fits my hand well (I was a Logitech person for decades because I am a finger type person vs palming my mouse and the larger size of Logi mouse fit my hand well)

What I am curious of though is that textured pad for the top buttons.....
[EDIT] looks like Glorious sells them too

From that video, person holds their mouse weird? They split their fingers so far to the edges of the top buttons like doing the splits..lol

Now I am looking at how I hold a mouse haha.

So the ball right at my wrist sits on the mouse pad and never moves, i have sensitivity set so that my range of moment doesn't need to exceed that circle. My mouse doesn't really move outside a 2inch diameter.

Exactly...That kid is going to have joint issues later in life...

Same for me, my palm sits flat most the time and i move the mouse around with my fingers

I got this LTT one a few years ago and it's really nice and durable.
I've had a couple of Corsair pads and they don't seem to last, start to fray and fall apart in under a year.

I had this Corsair pad before the LTT one,

it was replaced under warranty due to the lighting fading.

I bought some wireless mice to give a try since they all have USB now if the battery dies you can use them wired unlike old wireless trash so there's always that but I've just stuck with my viper mini for right now just so I don't always forget to turn the mouse off at night.
