.... back again, still having the same problem where my computer mysteriously reboots, tried reinstalling windows, changing cables, running memtest on hours on end, prime95 torture tests, etc. does any body know of this problem, how do i fix it? it only happens at certain points.... like, when im loading the server in battlefield 1942 or exiting the game, or when im exiting full screen mode in winamp(the only known times thus far) can some one or any of my fellow [H]'ers Please Help!

....no, im almost positive it isn't the video driver problem, i can try to update and see if that works, but i highly doubt it, i'll try when i get home............ come on guys i need some more suggestions

It sounds like something to do with the vid card and it doesn't sound hardware related since it's not crashing in the middle of a game.

Try a couple of different versions of drivers. Newer ones if you don't have the newest, or older drivers if you do have new ones.

oh man, i can't wait to go home and see if this works cuz i will be supremly happy if that is the case

I think I remember your other thread, you have reformatted right? 95% of the time when you reformat and you get the same issues it's hardware. Since your passing prime95 and memtest86 the mobo, cpu, and ram are likely good. That leaves sound, video, and power supply as likely suspects. Swap these out one-by-one, if it's oneboard sounds disable it in the bios, if it's a PCI card, just remove it.

The other 5% may have to do with specific hardware incompatibilities, maybe relating to drivers. You have probably discounted the driver part with the reformat. But that still leaves hardware x isn't compatible with hardware y. Of course these types of problems are found quickly, and should be 'known' to your build.

Good luck.

well i can't see if it is the video card due to the fact that i don't have another one, the sound is on board, i will disable it, i think im goign to update video drivers and see if that works, hopefully, still at school, be home in like 2 hours, and we will go from there, as far as PSU,i guess i can switch it out and see if that is the problem but all my rails see to be stable and at the right voltages, i'll post when i try video drives and disable sound....

Another thought. Is your northbridge actively cooled? I had a system that would hard lock during 3d gameplay because the northbridge couldn't handle the load because the "active cooling" on it wasn't spinning. ;) That was a while back.

norhtbridge, you mean my processor? i have artic silver 5 pluse a 60dollar cooler master HSF idling at 32 loads at 46.... its cooled

NO.. not the processor. Looking at your motherboard. <unless you have rev two.> it is directly next to it with a fan on it. It is labled Gagibyte, P4 Titan. Anyway that is the part I am talking about. If that little fan is only working half assed or not at all you will have stability issues under load. It handles all of your I/O traffic. Drives, Graphics bus, all of that good stuff.

OOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO that thing... wow i thought you ment north wood, wow im a dumb ass...lol:p .... that thing is crankin some air out, i don't think that is the problem

I'm leaning to bad video card, possibly bad AGP slot... Got a friend that will swap you cards for a bit?

how are the temps in your case..

if you have one of those mobos where it detects the computers temps to be too high it may shut itself down...

usually when you play a game your system will heat up a bit more

...just a thought

i don't htink it is a bad agp slot, and my card seems to be running fine, going to test it out right now, updated teh drivers

did it again, temps are stable, turned off the over clock, still did it, umm, guys im about to pull my hair out if i can't fix this

It works great, changed the PSU and madesure everything was in working order, updated drivers and its alll mint now

real quick tho, it was the audio drivers, do you know where i can get a revised edition of realtek 98?

good to hear...

i'm gonna test out a computer today too that i'm having trouble with...hopefully the psu is the problem on this as well because it is driving me nuts too...

well im sure mine was that and the audio drivers, cuz i re-enabled the drivers and it did it once, hopefully someone can tell me where to get those drivers

To hell with finding those damn drivers there are lik239874287502498 of them, i just went and got a sound blaster audigy zs platnium, ahhh so damn nice... and it works... haha

devo5676 you didn't by chance have your Radeon hooked up to the same power lead as your hard drives did you?
I've been reading in here of some people having problems because of that. The Radeons pull alot of power and were causing issues with the hard drives on the same leads.
My machine was crashing hard when playing games when my 9700 was hooked up with my HD's on my new board with 1 HD installed on a SATA adapter. Had no problems with my old board (8kHA+).
Does the 9800 pull as much wattage as the 9700?

it was on the same lead as my friggin HSF, but when i changed the PSU i made sure that it was on a lead of its own
