It all depends on what you're running and using. There are a number of specific improvements that are useful to me. High DPI support is improved, the tile folders I think are a big improvement for the Start Menu, battery life seems better and Windows Hello with the camera on my Surface Book is faster. With that stuff and no issues for me personally, the upgrade has been good for me. YMMV.

I guess... I'm not sure I understand the "OMG I'm going to install on day 1 and I expect zero issues" mentality. I mean in a perfect world, yes - it should be that way. But everyone knows it's not that way, so... what do people expect?

I thought win 10 was a bit rough around the edges when it was released, but It's pretty damn stable now. If you need your machine and can't handle the time to troubleshoot a new OS installation (which these updates really are) - then you should be deferring updates until you're in the right frame of mind / have the time.

Now if the deferred updates are still borking - well then bring out the pitchforks. But that's not what's going on right now.

I'll be enabling CBB right before RS3 hits. For now, I want to get CU as updated as possible.
 
The previous major update messed up bf4 on my system. Game would load but disappear out of the taskbar before you could get into it. Would never open and no way to task switch over to it.

Then this update comes out and blows up ycbcr444 color with my display. Also other dumbass bugs like broken options in security center. Fkn ridic.

Learned my lesson. After they get this fixed I'm deferring updates from here on. It is obvious that the bug fixing pre release isn't cutting it.

What's the point of the default setting if you've constantly gotta defer updates?

Imagine if everyone followed your advice? All of a sudden we have a scenario where the deferred setting just became day 1! You know how you could fix the issue 'entirely'? Give the user complete control, allowing them to choose when it's convenient for them to install an update on their own PC.

Ah, so we should go back to the it is 2017 but you are not even on Windows 7 SP1 yet? Or, you are still using the release of Windows 10 from 2015 and you stuff needs to be updated to support your stuff? You have control, by the way, it is called turning off the service until you are ready to install the updates. Otherwise, all you are claiming is rediculous at best, the part about imagine all the people in the world comment.

So you're now claiming Windows users are stupid? That's a bit rough!

As someone that works on hundreds of Windows machines owned by a plethora of differing users, I've never once seen anyone deliberately disable Windows update unless they were running pirated Windows - Based on my experience your comment is a massive generalisation.

As far as turning off the service is concerned, this involves registry changes or third party hacks and is hardly an option the operating system in question freely provides - Which is unacceptable. However, going back to your point of Windows 7 users supposedly disabling Windows updates, it's obvious that completely taking all control away from the end user under Windows 10 is actually having that effect as evidenced by your own posting, your own advice instructing people to disable Windows update completely! If you can disable it to defer updates even longer than allowed by the owners of your PC, than you may as well disable it completely so you aren't inconvenienced at all by the ancient method of updating.

It's not Microsoft's PC, it's yours.

I do not care about your misrepresentation at the top of your post. However, you are entirely wrong about how to disable the service. It is, services.msc, right click the service, choose, properties, select disable, click ok and reboot the computer. Anything else is a straight up lie or you are simply wrong.

So disabling the updater service 'entirely' is the solution to all of your Windows 10 updating issues! Nice! [not]. Literally proving beyond all doubt that Microsoft's solution of treating Windows users under the umbrella of 'idiot' is actually making the updating situation worse in direct comparison to past versions of Windows that actually provided the user with control via the GUI without resorting to registry, third party, services hacks.

At least Heatlesssun likes your post, you can both babble via PM now.
 
Creators update broke my Geforce drivers, DSR doesn't work now......Really beginning to annoy me with these updates.

9 times out of 10, it is usually an Nvidia driver issue. Look all the way back to when Vista was first released and take a look at the one with the most driver issues from that point on. That said, I hope they fix the problem quickly. I know AMD released Creators update compatible drivers almost immediately.

Well, the only reason I say that is that it was working before the update on the latest 382.xx Nvidia drivers for the 900 series.

Yeah, I did a clean install and it was still not working. I'll try the previous driver and see if it works
 
my W10 machine just got upgraded to the Creator's Update earlier tonight...everything seems to be running fine but it looks like they rearranged some things in Settings, Control Panel etc...

looks like my Auzentech sound card software is no longer being recognized after the update...I was planning on doing a reformat soon but I might do it sooner now...they also moved a bunch of settings to different places which takes some getting used to...Windows also takes longer to boot to desktop now

it shows up in Device Manager but I can no longer switch between various Modes- Game, Audio Creation, Entertainmant etc because I can no longer access the Auzentech software programs (Console Launcher, Auzentech Control Panel)

Error: "The audio device supported by this application is not detected"

DSR is for gamer pukes. Zero interest on that. We have a gaming console for big screen gaming if someone wants to play. I haven't touched it since we bought it though.

nvidia-settings --assign CurrentMetaMode="DVI-I-1: nvidia-auto-select +0+0 {viewportin=3840x2160}

Should also be configurable via Nvidia X Server Settings GUI using viewportin.

Complete waste of time under any OS though, unless you like lower fps @ 1920 x 1080 with dubious benefit. If you want 4k, run a 4k monitor so you get a benefit that's worth the fps drop.

Not at all, VSR works really well when I had 2 x 27 inch 1080p monitors a couple of years ago. Games just simply looked a lot better but I did buy a 4k monitor a little later for more desktop functionality.

I was having quite a few nagging issues ever since Windows Update upgraded my system to the Creator's Update...I finally got around to doing a fresh iso install of it this weekend and now things are back running smooth...with the Windows Update method it reverted a lot of my tweaks and settings back to default and a bunch of things weren't working properly...looks like every time MS releases one of their major releases a fresh install will be pretty much mandatory

they also seem to move a bunch of settings to different places which is annoying...plus they add in a bunch of new adware or spyware and you have to hunt those down as well...

You have to wonder what they're thinking. They're constantly breaking the UI for what? To annoy users? What could be their motive of constantly changing something that wasn't broken, knowing fully well that everyone will be annoyed to hell to not find the option in the old place where it was supposed to be.

And this is why having Windows as a "rolling release OS" like a lot of Linux distros happen to be is a terrible awful disgusting pig fuck of a stupid dumbass idea but, it's Microsoft, it's their OS, and they're going to do whatever the hell they want with it, end users be damned. ;)

Apparently there's far more UI changes coming, it's becoming more of a dumbed down touch interface every day. ;)

the Fall Creator's Update seems to be mostly focused on touch interface BS...seems like they're reverting back to Windows 8

I'm also a Windows 10 user. I don't just use Linux. :rolleyes:
