Wii Demand?

walmart and target got shipments yesterday.

eb games and gamestop are dead for awhile i hear in san diego.

I think the most interesting part of all the continued demand is how many enthusiasts are dying for one but still can't get it. I'd say most of the [H] gamers posting here are of the geek/enthusiast variety, and it's worth pointing out that the people with probably the highest desire to get a Wii still can't, even two weeks after Christmas. And it's definitely not shipping in as low of numbers as the competition, so it's not from a suffocating lack of supply.

To me, that's kinda  .

I work in the media department at Best Buy, and I will tell you guys, we get maybe 30 calls for Wii's to every 1 call for a PS3. And that call for a PS3 was a guy asking for a Wii. "No Wii's? How about PS3s?"

So there is quite a lot of demand.

I was at TRU to get a game recently and just for fun I decided to check if they had any Wii's.

As I was walking up to the cashier, he said, "No we don't have any" before I could even ask or say anything.

I bet they're sooo sick of hearing the same question over and over again. :p

Well I am surprised by the want as well, how many systems are in North America right now and how many do they want every week?

Dunno, I picked mine up from ToysRUs this morning. 2 extra 'Chucks and an extra Wiimote also. Need more controllers, but I had to take what I could get. Wii SPorts is a blast, tomorrow I'll fire up Zelda....but maybe I should wait for weekend so I don't call in sick on Friday.

returned 1 controller to best buy last night (bought extras for a friend and he ended up not needing them) and i've never seen them so happy or eager to take a return LOL. They said it wouldn't even last 2 minutes on the shelf.

The craze will die down eventually once other console prices drop and the novelty wears off. They'll still sell well, but it won't be hard to find one i'd imagine like it is today.

I've had mine since launch and it is no novelty... it is just outright FUN. It's not going to "wear off" like the PS3's graphics did, even before the 8800-series on the PC came out and demolished its graphics before its launch even.

If it were *novelty* selling the Wii, it would have *already* worn off :). Note the PS3--novelty long since gone.

/Agree, I've been using mine for 2 months now and love it still.

Seems like the best bet to find one is to start calling around Friday night for the weekend deliveries. Seems like alot of people just go by the stores to "happen" to catch one. If you really want one, start calling and find out when they get deliveries and then go by on those days. I have found 2 that way so for (could have gotten 5 this weekend). Stupid me, I should have just bought them and sold them for $50 more!!:D

Ouch! I got one on launch by waiting a couple of hours at a Nintendo event in a local Westfield mall, but my mom didn't get one at the time. We finally got lucky with a pre-order at FYE (a games/movies/music chain on the east coast) that I had placed in mid-October coming in about a week ago (beginning of January). We both love the Wii :D.

I got a couple of Wii games for X-mas, and even some new cables/accessories. Wife could never find a Wii. I still don't have one, and I can honestly say I've never even SEEN one- be it in store or at a friends' house (because they can't find them either). :(

The Westfield mall near me has a huge Nintendo area with NIntendo staff still up since launch that has 6 playable Wii games. Every time I go by there, a lot of people are trying it out... it's just weird how popular this thing is.

Was about March of the following year. Wii shouldn't be that long though because they're shipping far more.

The NPD numbers show differently... they've sold over 1.1 million units so far, 600,000+ of those in December. They certainly aren't having a lack of demand for their rather large supply :(.

Their supply wasn't anywhere near what I expected it to be for my prediction to come off. I was expecting for them to put about 1.5 times what Japan was getting into the US market. But they didn't even come close.

My best friend was trying to get his Wii in California through FYE. Went and got a pre-order through them and everything about 2 weeks before launch. Well launch came and went and they never got any. He started calling them on a weekly basis only to get the answer "we know we are getting them, just dont know when..." (Which I think is complete BS) So finally, the week AFTER Christmas he gets a call saying that they got their shipment in and that if he wants it he needs to come pick it up by no later than 5pm the next day or they will sell it. I was like WTF!!!! So he goes down there to pick it up and they pull the ole' bait and switch on him. "Oh sorry dude, we are only selling these in a $500 bundle, you get the console, extra wiimote and nunchuk, and your choice of any three games." So he starts asking them what they have games wise (eventhough he is pissed about they are pulling this on him) The guy lists off the 3..thats right THREE... games they have in stock which are Tony Hawk, the Fishing Game and some other random game, basically nothing he wants to BUY. Well, let's say he didn't buy the system, got his $50 pre-order fee back and has been talking with their corporate and the BBB about their business practices. I mean WHAT A F#*($ING CROCK!!

Long story short, I will definitely stay away from FYE

Wow. I feel sorry for your friend. I've heard a lot about the FYE preorder, they didn't even seem to get enough units in to cover the ones that they took preorders for. The bundle thing is definitely lame and of very questionable legality.

I hope your friend can get a Wii soon. :(

Actually, he's going to wait until later this year to get one. He now has a wedding to pay for so it is not really in the cards (thinking 250 for the wii, another 80 for extra controller/nunchuk, extra 50 for Zelda, another 20-50 for Wii Points) So probably what I will do is get him one for his wedding present along with something they register for.

I just got back from spending 3 weeks in Australia.
The Wii was released on Dec. 7 down under, and I arrived DEc. 18. The entire time I was there, I have not seen any Wiis on the shelves.
I did manage to play Wii Sports at a local Dick Smith store, and consequently pwned all the 8 year olds who challenged my at tennis. :p

I've had my Wii since its US launch, and I couldn't wait to get back to playing it as soon as I arrived from Oz.

On another note, has anyone else had trouble connecting to the Wii Store these past couple of days?

I;m going to be getting back from my vacation soon just curious is this system still hard to get off the shelves?

I just got back from Gamestop, where I bought a used Wii for a friend. The dude working there said they are getting new shipments weekly, and that they sell out within 15 minutes.

found a week at best buy yesterday...

i got on shortly after Christmas.. but it's starting to look like demand is dying now..

I sitll don't have one, not really trying too hard.
having too much fun studying. /sarcasm.

actually I'm glad I couldn't get one at launch, because if I had I'd regret it. Zelda is the only thing I've tried that I enjoyed :/ Haven't seen paper mario yet, but I haven't been a fan of the mario games since they went 3D.

Well then you'd probably like Super Paper Mario considering it went back to the 2d sidescroller roots. It's not the same, but it's a very interesting new take.

I have actually rented a few games for the Wii and have not come across one that I didnt like. I have played Zelda (own it), COD3, MOH: Vanguard, RedSteel and Rayman Raving Rabbits. All of these games were a blast and fairly easy to pick up and play when you wanted to.

Yea most of the time you are in 2D mode so it plays like an old school Mario game, just with more talking...

Happy to have gotten my Wii at launch, I own about 5 games so far which is a record for me since usually when a new system comes out I only have maybe 2 or 3 games during the first year (such as my 360 and PS3).

Well it's the end of an era, yesterday i saw an actual Wii on the shelf at Gamestop. The first I've seen since launch morning. Walked back past 40 minutes later, it was gone.

I still don't have one, and have lost interest in getting one for the moment. If Tiger Woods for the Wii had been the second coming of video game golf I would have tried my hardest to get one. As it's not, I'm content to wait and see how things develop.

I bought one a month ago. I was pumped to get one, but now I haven't touched it in 3 weeks.

I got mine on launch and it is still the only one I have ever seen in a store. I am really enjoying VC games now.

If they ever add final fantasy 1,2, or 3 i dont think i would play my xbox or ps3 for a long long long time.

The PS3 is always in stock at my local Gamestop. Not the Wii.

I still don't see either on shelves at common stores, but I can't say I have been to many stores after Christmas. Gamestop I check out at lunch more often because it is next to a Chipolte.

I live in a city with 452,000 people, just a few miles south of Los Angeles, and I see PS3's on the shelves at every store I go to. Wal Mart, Target, CC, BB--everyone has PS3's, and nobody's got Wii's, despite more Wii's being shipped than PS3's. It's *insane*. I got mine on launch day and I love it, but still...I'm shocked by the demand this thing's got going on, and it seems to be this way in every territory around the world. Just *weird*.

Yea, although they are beginning to sell a little slower, my local Walmart got 12 in a few days ago and took like a day to sell out, but still the fact that their still selling out in a day or faster is pretty amazing.

The wii is going to sell like the ps2 ;). Millions and millions. Its a new generation of gaming :). I think the idea of playing games differently and actually being involved in them is what makes everyone buy the wii and how fun it is once you are involved in the game. :) thats whats captured me ;)

Just got mine a week ago, walmart is now taking names for their weekly shipment, and I'm enjoying the hell out of it. The woman at walmart said they still dont last over an hour on the shelf.

I Didn't feel bad waiting this long since the game selection is still pretty meh', I do feel bad for my brother in law though, he just dropped 400+ on ebay last month.

My friend who hasn't played games in about 6 years just bought a Wii this weekend. He waited an hour and a half outside Toys R Us on Sunday for a shipment of 40 Wiis, which were gone before the store opened.

It's already June, we're almost half-way through 2007 and there's still not enough to stay in-stock at a store.

What pains me is that he bought it play...DBZ?

Yea, amazing year for the Wii in sales so far. My anticipation for Smash Bros Brawl is super high right now and the daily weekday updates are so cool, even though they only revealed a few new things so far. I'm expecting to get some new char info at E3.

Yeah, so far getting to Target REALLY early on days they have an advertised sale for Wii's is the most reliable way to get one. However, I have passed on Wii's three times in the last three months when I could have bought them at my local EB. The trick is to know what time they receive shipments and then stop by every day at that time. I don't do that, but just stopping by at that time twice a week has given me a few shots at them.

BTW, I passed because I got mine the day after launch.... By walking into EB at about the time they receive their shipments and asking if they had any in, they had just gotten 2 more, so I got one.

lol its crazy how the wii is still in super high demand. Basically the generation that died off after the last consoles from 2d are playing the wii and broader crowd in coming in. I heard even microsoft is going start changing their ways now. The want the broader crowd now lol. Its just a matter of time before they bump up the manufacturing rate that they will sell 10's of millions in a few months.

Theres a reason they had it named Revolution ;). Using a name like the wii everyone can remember. When ever someone says we they think nintendo wii lol. ;)

lol I must have really good luck. When I got my wii it was because E&B games juts got the shipment in (they hadnt even unpacked it yet). Since then I have walked into walmart 3 times just after they have recieved shipments, so I've had 4 different opertunities to just walik in and buy a Wii without trying. there always sold out the next day though.

But man, theres ps3's everywhere here in alberta. Go to edmonton and theres 3 in every store you check lol.

I got mine at a local gameshop that doesn't have too many customers. It was a bundled sale, you need to buy 3 games, so that's probably why it was still around. Lucky for me, since I'm the guy who'd end up buying 3 anyway, plus Wii Play.

Haven't seen any since then though, after refusing to camp out after a few failed campouts after launch, I figured they'd be common in stores by May since were making appearances on shelves in some places. Still looks like they're still getting snatched up like mad.
