If your buying a card just to run 3dmark's then your an idiot. If your buying a high end card to play your games with all the eye candy on @ 1600x1200 then your money is well spent.

I spent $650 for an X800XTPE and I play Dawn of War online all the time with all the eye candy maxed and looks and plays awesome. It was money well spent and I plan on getting the X850XTPE AGP 8x when ATI releases it in Feb (the last high end AGP 8X by ATI.)

I think the reason why people piss and moan about the prices of high end vid cards is cause they don't have one and they are the ones still playing games @ 800x600 with all of the eye candy turned off so they get discouraged with the game cause it doesn't end up playing like the pics in magazines or screenshots and instead it looks like they are playing an ATARI 2600 game.

Wow, you got ripped big time.

No, I consider the idiots paying $1000 for a P4 Extreme Edition as getting ripped. Especially since a mid priced A64 will kick it's ass on a bad day. But that's another thread in itself.....

yep, now that's an ass-ripping.

i remember the day when processors used to cost $400 and $350 was a good price for a really good gfx card

Well, I have a normal PCI bus Nvidia FX5500 and I'm playing games (yes, new ones) on 1024x768 with effects normal to high, so, looks like I got the lucky end and got PCI rather than AGP, or PCI-E, huh? These people are pissed because these damn cards offer nothing revolutionary, just "oh, lookee, its 100mhz faster, and wayyyy oevrclockable" bla bla bla.
it's just a bunch of different versions of the same old crap. At least that's what I think...

honnestly, an AMD-64 3000+ will beat one of those
AMDs ENTRY LEVEL cpu, BLOODY HELL. ;)

and then look where the FX-55 is

WHOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO would ever buy Intel?

Not quite, but close. It takes a 3500+ to hang in with a P4 3.4EE, but still what does a 3500+ cost nowdays? $250?

I'm sorry, but the whole P4 line parallels the GeForceFX line..or is it the other way around?

Wow! I guess my $650 X800XTPE was a bargain, only because all of the $499 Best Buy X800XTPE's no longer existed.

I doubt that in most cases you could even tell the difference upgrading from a X800XTPE to an X850XTPE unless you're running EQ2 or something that's pushing the current card to it's limit and actually lagging in some places right now... /shrug

Better than spending the money on a more hazardous hobby I guess, still a lot of moolah to throw around for such insignificant gains though. Unless you're ass-ripping someone else and selling the X800XTPE for close to what you bought it. :p

Sapphire Radeon X850 XT Platinum video card, 256MB, DDR3, PCIe-16, VIVO, DVI
WTF?

You have to be FUCKING KIDDING? ;)

Wow, that is insane. Not even here in Australia do we get such crazy prices. And we have 10% GST on everything. An X850XTPE is ~$1000 here, AUD$1000 = US$775. Take off that damn GST and we have US$705 for an X850XTPE down here.

i just moved to nz and spent 800usd to ship my computer here. im building a backup with a P3 cpu and the parts come to 800NZD - P3 933 cpu and 512mb pc133 ram since i have that already. markup is fucking insane here.

Yeh bro! we are one of the most unfortunate people who stuck in this you've-got-to-be-kidding-me-price land. even trademe is considered to be overpriced compared to ebay. Why us? :(

Trademe is a rippoff generally, most of the time stuff is over retail.

Bad day for the EE or A64? ;)

You're right of course, the A64 3200+ beats or equals the 3.46EE in most gaming tests.

Yeah I won't pay $400 for 6800gt or x800... that's why I paid only $280 :D

I paid $266, so THERE! Yeah, I would spend $400, because i am too poor for that. Every component of my system I got for cheeeeeap, and I built it over the course of about a year. It's the best way to do it for someone on a budget.
