Why P6701?

Ya'll want some cheese to go with ya'lls whine? Between 6701, slow GPU WUs, and BWM, ya'll are a whiney bunch lately. Sheesh.

I've mentioned this before but no one seems to care as they are too focused on maximum PPD. However, 6701 and 6702 are doing some very important science no other WUs are doing right now.

yeah i want some cheese damnit! ran out last night and i need some more to make sandwiches.

wine and cheese sounds like a delightful Wednesday afternoon snack, so yes, I will take you up on your offer. Thank you.

Agreed.

Well that's good then because that's about 95% of what I'm getting on the CPUs (67xx)

I may not fold for Team 33 (sorry guys), but I also don't mind the 6701. It's predictable. My E8600 can handle it at stock speed (again, I'm not really in it for awesome PPD, just something interesting to do), and squeezes out 32 minute frame times. At least I can trust the 6701 will always fold the same way.

My rig, on the other hand, won't even touch the 6040's. EUE at 0%, running full stock.

You must move the whole FAH folder including the subfolders to be able to resume. I think you moved only a part and since there is no work files found, they will pick a new one.

So, in theory, if I have two machines - one is an SR-2 24-core and the other is a 980X - and the 'lesser' machine has a -bigadv WU while the super machines has a regular -smp WU...I could swap them for best performance/PPD?

I would think we crunched all the 6701's by now lol

not even close. technically its unlimited. it could keep spitting out an infinite amount of variations of the protein's. but at some point you eventually reach the end of whats useful data and no one knows exactly when that is.

I just pulled 6040 TPF is 22mins on my phenom II 955 running at 3.6.I dont know if this is a new WU,but I do know its slow as hell lol

It's not a new unit. 6040 and 6041 are the largest of the standard SMP units, so they take a long time to complete, but they also have a much higher points value than the smaller units to compensate. They tend to produce slightly less PPD than the small SMP units, but still more than 6701 and 6702.

I've got a 6701 that's taking my poor old e6850 @ 3.3 ghz 28:41 tpf. It's going to take 2 days to run this bugger. :(

Just wanted to update that this does work (yes I just quoted myself). No use having my 980X work on 2684 while my SR-2 works on a regular SMP WU...

That's interesting.

what did you do move the work file from one system to the other? it does work but you may not receive your bonus points for it since it has to be returned by the machine it was sent to.

Yep, Tiger stated in the past that User ID, which is unique for each system must be the same from download to upload for a WU to be awarded full credit. Technically it's possible if one uses the same User ID for every system, but that isn't recommended by PG. Unless things have changed with the new clients, I think sirmonkey is correct.

By User ID do you mean Machine ID?

I actually exchanged the entire FAH folder from my SR-2 rig (folding a 6040 WU @60%) with the FAH folder on my 980X rig (folding a 2684 WU @4%...figured if I lost the progress it wasn't a big deal) and restarted the clients from their respective desktop shortcuts.

I have received 13,485 points for the 6040 WU already, so it seems the bonus points still work. I guess the 2684 will be the real way to know!

User ID is an unique alphanumeric code that every system has assigned upon first installation of the F@H client. It is stored in the registry and can be seen every time the client is launched.

Things may have changed, my information dates back to the first half of 2007 and it wasn't current even then. A lot has transpired since that time and don't know what will result by moving WUs back and forth from system to system. I remember reading threads on the FF that it is generally not recommended to do this but it isn't a crucial matter as long as the WU completes before the preferred deadline and uploads successfully.

Heh, well if I report back that I received 9000 points then we'll at least confirm that it's a bad idea! It wouldn't be as bad as losing the WU to an EUE or unstable_machine error, so no real harm done either way.

If it does work, though, then it's a great way to ensure that your most powerful rigs are at least working on the most important WUs points-wise.

Yeah...don't do this.
