Why do ppl hate Counter Strike Source so much.

There isn't enough variety in CS:S. Same levels, Same weapons. It doesn't take long for a person to learn the entrance points and start camping the choke points. After you play the same map 100 times you better damn well be an expert at it.Tis is why I enjoy Bf2 so much.Even though they are the same levels there is still 100's of different ways to approach and capture emeny spawns. CS:S is more of an move toward the choke point, throw a flash. Than spray and pray. Not my style. 2cents

Ohhh, yes and chess is nothing but a simple game of 64 squares and 6 pieces. :p

Chess has what millions of different combination? Almost all the levels in CS:S have 2 entrance points. All terrorist need to do is camp the choke points.

my friend (a cs 1.6 fanatic, he's pretty good), says source sucks b/c "a bad person on a good computer can beat a good person on a bad computer".

a persons moral status has nothing to do with their success in CSS. :p

Tell him to stop crying and upgrade for his first time in 3 years. My old 2500 barton + 9800 pro ran Source based games just fine (granted I didn't crank AA or anything).

Its not a horrible game, I only ever play with i can get a bunch of freinds togeather to play, I used to pub but not anymore, too many little kids with mouths. Thing i hate about the game the most is the WTF kinda moments when you and an enemy are standing in a hallway shooting the crap out of each other and nothing seems to happen..

Where's the vehicles, planes, boats, parachutes, etc. to jump and and cruise around in? None. Just FPS guns vs. guns. Then spawn, die, wait. Spawn, die, wait. It's just boring IMO. BF42 is still the most fun for me. Lot's of variety. No variety in CS. The same maps with the same strategies. Over and over again.

CS too boring for you? Do what a lot of CS elites do. Play Natural Selection!

If there's any game that makes team work important it's NS. This is a game that puts some good use of the microphone feature as you need to be constantly in communication with your team mates.

Natural Selection can make CS elites wet behind the ears. As there's literally so much going on the game that multitasking is a must. You'll hear CS gamers bitch when a skulk bites them in the ass. Sorry CS boy no head shots for you. Learn to dodge an animal the size of a cat.

People cheat in NS but it's very hard. As aim bot won't do you much good when a Onos is coming after you. Wall hacks don't give you an advantage because both aliens and marines can see where everyone is with upgrades.

If you ain't working as a team in NS you'll loose.

Heh, I don't know about ever.

Those honors always go to original NES console games. But most addicting, fun, MP games? Definitely.

On the hardware advantage, there is some. There is a reason I'm upgrading to an Opteron system soon (already got my 146...need a mobo/PSU/GPU now ;) ). When you get into big games, that are 25+ and you're on a large map like Aztec, the better CPU certainly helps.

well if this "good" person is getting beat, then he ceases to be good. or he really wasn't good in the first place.
because i don't think the game and therefore your success is as equipment-reliant as you claim, but then again with all the build-your-own-pc hardcore people out there, a good computer can be kinda subjective can't it.

Besides Final Fantasy 7, Counterstrike is the best game ever

IMO, TFC owns the crap outta CS. TFC is so much more complex and interesting. It takes more than a week to get good. Just curious what didnt you like about TFC as compared to CS?

What the heck are you smoking, TFC is so freaking easy compared to CS. I played TFC way before CS and it was easy, and after CS it's even easier. All you have to be to get a crap load of kills be a HW guy or a sniper. If you want to win on a CTF map, you either be an egnineer or a scout. It's extremely simple, but the best CTF IMO.

Yeah, and all that the white side chess player has to do is control the center of the board  :p Dude, seriously, terrorists need to plant the bomb as well, and the CT need to defuse or kill the rest of the T. If CS:S or CS 1.6's strategy could be summed up in one sentence, then I doub't it would be the worlds biggest online game of all time.

And to boot, a computer is still the worlds best chess player.... (I really don't know what this has to do with the thread, just seemed appropriate).

I personally never dis it. Although I dont like it so I just choose not to play it. There are some people that drive me crazy when they say stuff like "I know everything about FPS, I have been playing since CS was out!!!" I just dont like it because I have a different taste in FPS's. I like my fantasy based running, jumping and shooting with good shots FPS's over the realistic restricted cant jump too much or run too much cause it ruins my aim kind of games :D To each their own I say. If I dont like a game I just dont play it.

Exactly, I don't think you can really compare it, I mean I love Q3, and it's a completely different animal, compared to CS. I love CS as well, I don't prefer one over the other, as I feel they are in different categories.

I just wanted to make the point that even though there are only a few variables in CS:S and Chess, there are millions and billions of things that could happen. Even if the T's just camp, its just like the white chess player consentrating on the center of the board.

Oh, and there were a few things not right with the Kasparov v.s. Deep Blue matches.

Yeah, I'm not real big on the chess scene anymore, I just looked over an exerpt. But yes, you point is very true, either way there are a lot of variables. Some people just don't get into CS, or find a gorup of friends who are into it and can really touch on the true faculties of CS.

Like I said, I hated it for the first 2 months, give or take. Thats how long it took my to get good enough to win my first 100 kill death match.

Now I usually get 80 on up in DM's, and am in the top 3 players for normal match play.

It gets real fun when you can run around killing noobs and actually lasting more than 30 seconds. The best part is listening to the noobs complain about how I am hacking because they can't kill me. I use to say the same exact thing when I sucked lol.

I hear ya there, I used to play on dial-up for the longest time, starting with quake and stuff. Played TFC for the longest times once I got Half-Life, then my friends found CS, and we started playing that at LAN parties. I ended up playing as much as I could, even on dial-up, I could hold my own, and I think dial-up gave me an unfair advantage, cause I would look like I was "skipping" to the players with a decent connection. Then I got my recent job where I work now, and I basically had a T-1 to my desk, so I brought in my comp from home, and we played Source for a good 4 months everyday after work till like 3 a.m. We would play all weekend too. My skills were quite rusty coming from dial-up, and I would swear people were hacking, but then I got a lot better and the 2 of us always ended up being in the top 3 right next to eachother. We had clan tags and everything, we would get kicked from servers somtimes because kids thought we hacked. Then, my friend moved, and I can't get out of here after hours, I hope that I will get a good connection to my house eventually. The only thing I've been doing lately is LAN parties with UT2K4, Q3, and Q4..... None of them like CS at all.

lol, I know where your coming from but you never got into the game enough. Thats how it is on the noob servers. The servers I played on no one played as a sniper and only once in awhile as hw's. Hw's are horrible, I can kill a HW as almost any class. I started out by playing HW and sniper at first too but then once I got in a clan and really started playing I never did again. Snipers were NEVER used in clan matchs.

It's totally different feeling from a noob server and a server where people actually know how to play. The game is alot harder than CS and alot more complex, there are so many class's and then you have things like bhoping/rocketjumping/hand held concs/etc.

Sentry's werent anything either..emps are the engineers best weapon, if I found a sentry i'd just strafe around it and kill it, if you go at the right speed and circle it it cannot hit you.

I don't know how long you've been playing, but I started playing TFC quite early on, before it was included with HL in box... I never did the clan thing, because by that time CS had grabbed more of my interest. But I played TFC almost everyday after school until like 1 am. Servers back then weren't full of n00bs as they are now with regards to TFC. Also alot of the little tricks, like where you could place guns and ammo despensers in maps like well, weren't "fixed". Once things like that changed, I left. It was easy then, and n00b servers are easy now. If I had an op to try a clan server, I would range that low on the difficulty scale too compared to CS, just on the mechanics, and my knowledge of the game. Also, whenever I go from playing a lot of CS to playing somthing like TFC or Q3, I end up doing far better than if I had been playing those games for a long straight run, which to my logic tells me CS is harder, if it makes the other games easier to play. Just my thoughts though, I haven't tried a clan TFC server, and I haven't played TFC for about 9 months or so.

Well if you don't know why "Source Blows" is because it is not competitive. CS 1.6 is purely on the competitive level. Source is just a quick put together version of cs maps on the source engine. The netcode in 1.6 is far superior to source and so is the overall game. The recoil in source is way off, decent players from 1.6 can run around like rambo with the AK/M4. When source first came out it lagged very badly and still does to much for competitve play. 1.6 doesnt lag at all and his an awesome netcode. No one really cares for ragdoll, the hitboxes are completely messed up in source. You can't tell if your killing them or if your dying.

This is mainly why 1.6 is still used for CPl and Source isant even used anymore. CS and Source are immature. Thats why you don't pub in 1.6. Join ESEA and play their pug and aim map servers. It is quite a bit like a LAN/esports experience. Most people there are good players and they are alot more mature and want to win. They also communicate good, so you don't have to hear whiners or anything like that. If you want to just play your firends get or play on a private server.

CS 1.6 is probably the key game to esports. It's HLTV service has raised to such a high level and vbcast and tsn have created pretty good ways of making it awesome for spectators. It is the best competitve team based FPS game and probably always will be with how much influence it has.

This is how TFC used to be, that's for sure, I remember finding all that stuff out, and things like with the scout how you can jump across on 2fort so a sniper doesn't get you. Or how in well you used to be able to put a dispenser over the 3rd floor elevator and it would trap people and crush them over a period of time. You could also put a sentry near by to kill them quicker. Hell, the spy used to be easy to spot, because people would try to look around. When I was engineer, I rarely used sentrys, I would always place dispensers to tell where the enemy was, or slow people down. I mostly used emp nades and the shotty, pave the way for a scout, or go after the flag myself. As a sniper, I never shot from the same place like the noobs did.
